  • Unreliable
Style: Rand Tablet 8 in (NEW) Size: 8 Inch
Camera is not a dash cam and quality is very poor. This is more for company fleet that's looking for a cheap option. Maps are unreliable for big trucks. Does not show distance of upcoming weigh stations, truck parking or fuel and repair shops. Rand Mcnally makes a good GPS for truckers, just not this one. As a OTR truck driver with many years of experience, stay away from this one. ... show more

  • Hyper-incompetent
Style: Rand Tablet 8 in (NEW) Size: 8 Inch
I have been using Garmin and Rand McNally side-by-side for a couple of years now and they’re both crap. But Rand is far worse! First, the pro (just one): entering addresses is amazing! Not QUITE as good as using Google, but very easy. Type the street address and zip code and it populates the address. That quick. Relative to Garmin, this is a MASSIVE win! Okay I forgot one other pro: the speed limits are generally accurate because it’s crowd sourced. You can tap on the speed limit if it’s wrong and submit a correction for review. This is truly a major win over Garmin which offers absolutely no ability to correct its many flaws, and knowing the correct speed limit can save your CDL. There are so very many failure points that it would be absurd to attempt to list them all. I entertained the idea of making a video, but it’s not worth my effort. Biggest fail is that it will waste many thousands of gallons of fuel over its lifetime with extremely poor navigation. You’d think Rand McNally would be king of the road, considering their heritage of map making, but nay nay. Every once in a while it has a better route than the Garmin, but it’s pretty rare. It thinks you can’t go down roads that you can all the time. It says it has “auto reroute”, but it does not. It has auto u-turn. I’ve let it go until it corrected itself on multiple occasions (as it very regularly has the inferior route), and after 250 miles of it telling me to take a u-turn, I forced it to reroute. Sometimes it offers a reroute, but you have to be looking at it during the 15-20 seconds it offers you the option of rerouting, and while driving and bouncing, press the tiny green button before it disappears. That’s not auto, that’s optional. There’s a highway (can’t remember where) that runs parallel to a railroad, with many side roads that cross that track, each with a lowboy warning sign. Every time the truck passes one of those signs you get a lowboy warning as if it is on the highway rather than the side roads. A microcosm of the insanity of bugginess. My wife and I have fantasized about putting this thing under the drive tires so many times. One day we’ll do it (I’d sell it but I feel it would be ethically and morally questionable to pass it along to someone else for financial gain. I have never experienced this level of failure in such an expensive product. It’s like using a 2009 version of TOMTOM. Maybe not that nice. Picture is of the “new” highway around Mobile that has been active for about 2 years now and king of maps “Linda” as we call Rand, still has no idea. Giving it 1-star is over-selling it. I have so much more to rant about, but if this isn’t enough, it’s never going to be enough. ... show more
