  • Be aware ...
Display Size: 5 Inches Edition: Traffic & Maps Map Type: USA Maps
They advertise free lifetime maps but fail to mention that the manufacturer charges an additional $130.00 for the computer driver to update the maps. I was replacing my current TomTom GPS which also provided free lifetime map updates and is functioning with out issue because the manufacturer stopped updating the maps for that model - hence the need for a new GPS. Will be returning this item - it's not worth the overall cost to own this device. ... show more

  • Zero customer service
Display Size: 5 Inches Edition: Traffic & Maps Map Type: USA Maps
I've been a loyal fan of TomTom products for near on 20 years and have never been disappointed. Last month however, I learned that my XL IQ of 9 years with "lifetime" maps was no longer supported and thereby could no longer get the "lifetime" maps - begs the question how is lifetime defined. Nonetheless, I figured I'd gotten almost a decade out of the device and would find another similar to it and stick with TomTom, a brand I have trusted. I bought the VIA 1525SE as it seemed to have all of the same qualities (size, functionality, "lifetime" maps, etc) and received it quickly. I charged it and then plugged it in to the computer to update the maps. It required firstly to update a file called NAV4. This initial update took almost 10 hours to complete. The device restarted and began updating the maps through MyDrive Connect. It gave an estimated download time of 2 hours the first time. It timed out at 39% and began again. Another two hours, time out, rinse repeat. After spending an entire weekend trying to get the maps to complete, I gave up and after another restart, I tried to operate the device. No maps installed, it says. I scoured TomTom's website for support and was repeatedly directed to their forums for support. I tried emailing through their site, but the "submit" button only refreshed the screen. I finally found a phone number, called and spoke to a scripted young lady who could do little more than re-direct me to the MyDriveConnect. Absolutely nothing in the way of support. Finally, I at least got MyDriveConnect to not begin automatically updating and was able to get it to briefly display "MyContent" and found the message that the drive is corrupt. I tried to "Repair" but that was greyed out, as was the "Uninstall" option. And unfortunately, there's not enough file space to allow for a download. Another call to their scripted staff who once more directed me to the forums - where Average Joe Blow could possibly give me the answer that the manufacturer could not. What kind of support is that? Genius I guess, they don't have to employ technical assist and just allow the keyboard warriors to take on the job for free, and if it fails - they've complete deniability. I have to find another GPS company now that I can trust, it will never again be TomTom. ... show more

  • Freezes up-Useless
Display Size: 6 Inches Edition: Traffic & Maps Map Type: North America Maps
Brand New! The screen has frozen solid as soon as connected it to "my drive connect" to update it. It has been frozen. Unable to use it. I tried all the fixes that TOMTOM had suggested. Nothing has worked. Tomtom support is not there. When you turn it on it freezes after the drum roll sound and the map is on screen. It worked until I connected it to the TomTom App. Now I am out $120. and it's useless. Product is TomTom VIA1625TM 6 Inch GPS Navigation Device. ... show more

  • No Speed or Speed Limit displayed unless you are on a planned route
Display Size: 6 Inches Edition: Traffic & Maps Map Type: North America Maps
Nice large 6" Display! What you can, and cannot display is the problem! We like to use our GPS as a digital speedometer. But with this TomTom, you cannot display your speed or prevailing speed limit unless you are following a programmed route. If you are Just driving around, know where you are going and how to get there, your speed and speed limit cannot be displayed unless you fool around and program in some kind of route first. This was confirmed through a call to TomTom Customer Support. Previously, we had a Garmin. And even on a 5" display, we had more display options and a more pleasing display format. I just hope that Amazon will take this thing back and refund my money Minimalist support provided by documentation. Generalizations provided by available user Manual do not all apply to this latest release. ... show more

  • old unit vs. new
With having previous Tomtom units. this one is disappointing. #1 touch screen is slow, you hit the button and nothing happens so you hit it again. Then all the letters start showing up, backspace and start over! #2 New unit start off in address search in the USA and narrow it down from there. Old unit (Tomtom) already had my state with cities I most used. #3 Info bar on right is too wide maybe 1/3 of the screen all of the time except when turning. Old unit was maybe 1/2" and I never had a problem seeing my traffic alerts. #4 New unit have to touch a little menu button to start prompts, and then it only shows you 3 @ a time. Old unit touch any part of the screen and it showed you 6 @ a time. My unit is going back to Amazon and I will review other products better in the future. ... show more

  • download takes at least 2.5 hours, upgrade fails, the Traffic does not work.
Display Size: 6 Inches Edition: Traffic & Maps Map Type: North America Maps
download takes at least 2.5 hours, upgrade fails and then the cycle of "download to upgrade" started over and over and each cycle takes between 2.5 hours to 3 hours, the Traffic feature does not work. It's good price but I wish it works, but it doesn't.
