Indeed does what it promises and dampens the sound pretty good. I wish they made this product in 1-2mm thickness though because the installation process is not pretty. It is *so heavy* that you cannot simply roll it down the wall like pictured. You can't even hold the roll, and neither can the staples. They pop right out. We had to cut tiny pieces and then staple each bit at a time. Not a huge challenge, just adds a ton more work. Installing multiple layers of thin material would be a lot easier than putting one layer of this thing on. ... show more

    • I can still hear my tenants
I live in a duplex and have a wall that separates me and my tenants. Before the soundproofing, I was able to hear everything! if they were talking at 50 db, i could hear it. If they talked loud enough, i could hear what they were saying. It was very annoying. Then I decided to tear the sheetrock down in my side, add some rockwall insulation, seal up the outlets (both mine and the tenants) with soundproof putty. Add this MLV that i am reviewing, along with soundproof sheetrock called QuietRock. This was a very expensive project. Now, i'm going to be completley honest with you, it seems like the soundproof probably lowered it by 10db which was way below my expectations. I could still hear who is talking, but it's more muffled. It seemed to work only a little bit. I'm not sure how other people are having other success stories, maybe it's my duplex? I want to soundproof the other side once the tenants move out, but everyone is doing only one side. I'm just not understanding how ... show more

It's difficult to say how effective this has been, but I have noticed some improvement. I wouldn't say night and day, but worth it. We combined this with Green Glue sound proofing sealant.

Easy to cut with a razor knife and easily fastened with an air powered stapler Used to reduce low frequency sound from a fully enclosed drum booth. While the sound was not completely muted, it was reduced.

The high weight and density of this product is great, but my UPS guy was not amused! I'm using this along with Dynamat and some thin foam to improve the sound isolation in my B250 conversion van. The 4' width fits perfectly between the rear wheel wells, minimizing the cut-n-piece work, and along with the Dynamat it does a good job of cutting down on the transmission, tire, and exhaust noise coming into the cabin. Nice improvement that makes an old vehicle feel a bit more modern, and for a much lower price than a new vehicle. The roll does have a mild odor during installation, but I didn't notice it after installation, even when the vehicle sits closed up for a few days. ... show more

    • Not a great value for the money
This MLV made up a large part of the cost of my attempted sound proofing project. I'm really not sure it made much difference. I covered mulple finished walls with it, and added a 5/8" layer of drywall on top, and it is only marginally better. I guess I wasn't expecting a miracle, but I was hoping for better soundproofing than I got. Not a good value for the money. ... show more

    • Excellent Sound Barrier
This is some of the densest material on the planet! It's heavy AF but blocks all highs/mids and lows down to about 60hz. Use the 2# (twice as heavy!) psf for bass trap below 60z (or double up the 1#). We glued/nailed ours to boards and hung them like curtains to minimize wall damage. NOTE: If you want studio-quality sound, spray-adhere foam panels to them. This material is also perfect for sound-insulating interior walls. ... show more

    • Very good alternative to pre-made "kits"
There are a few companies that sell this with the insulting closed cell foam already attached - for a hefty premium. That isn't needed though if you get a self adhesive closed cell foam. I cut the MLV to the shape I needed, then used it as a template for the closed cell foam, then simply stuck it on. You need the insulator since this is designed to "hang in space" so to speak. If it is mounted directly to the steel, it loses that effect. There are non-asphalt CCD squares for that (rattle elimination). ... show more
