I was expecting middling results. I record in a white walled room that reflects sound quite well, making every recording an exercise in reverb. I got this Troy Studio (full size) in hopes of resolving this. It does. Very well, actually. The reverb is gone. The voice sounds like it come from the void and returns there. It is the sole thing you will hear. Even ambient noise is greatly reduced. The air conditioning and sounds of our neighbors are diminished. I can't argue with results, and here they are. With that being said you are getting a canvas fold-out box and some heavily packaged foam that the instructions recommend you squish in warm water to puff up. I soaked them in my bath tub, gently squishing them. I then used a dryer to un-moisten them. A bit laborious for setup. Stuffing them in the container was easy after this. However, the real challenge is figuring out how you will put your microphone in there. I connected mine through the side hole and put in a stand that rests on the foam. The box is large enough that I can hold my phone inside for reading my lines while I perform, with my brave sound person manning the computer (this box is too big for my desk, so two people became a must). All in all, I can recommend despite the cheap-ish nature of the setup. This works wonders. ... show more

I bought this sound insulation box for audio recording in my studio. It does cancel out exterior and background noise pretty well. The assembly of the box was a bit of a pain, as you have to soak the foam panels in a large enough pool of water for them to expand and hold firm. I used a bathtub to soak the panels, and then let them dry on a towel. The drying process took awhile, so I also used a hair dryer. Once the panels were finally dry and firm, its relatively easy to set them up within the felt box. It doesn't exactly hold a perfect cube, the sides bend a bit, but it does the job. It is easy to attach to a mic stand, and has stood up multiple years. I use an AudioTechnica AT2020 condenser microphone within the insulation cube, and it blocks out a good chunk of the background noise. For the price, this insulation works really well once you've got it put together. I would recommend this product for any home and amateur studios. ... show more

This compact and portable solution is a game-changer for my VO recordings as a part of my travel rig when I hit the road. The sound isolation is remarkable, effectively reducing background noise and echo. The acoustic foam inside appears to be high quality, and ensures excellent sound absorption, resulting in crisp and professional recordings. Upon unpackaging I was hit with a strong chemical odor that filled the room for a couple of hours. I soaked the foam as recommended, rung the pieces out, and placed them in the dryer for about half an hour. I thought that was a pretty long time but these pieces would just not dry. One of the pieces never fluffed. Foam still has a strong odor. The little stabilization “table“ that it comes with to set atop the mic stand is so flimsy that I had to drill holes in the bottom of the box so I could place the large disk inside of the box and the place the white plastic part on the bottom side. I understand that is not the way it is supposed to be set up but it was just too wobbly when I followed the directions, so I made my own adjustments. It is still super wobbly. I drilled a hole on the front bottom of the box to attach a cord to the mic stand to keep the box from wobbling. The foam separates even after attaching the enclosed rubber bands to keep in place. Recording quality is better than nothing but I’m not completely sold on this thing especially since it took me forever to tweak to my satisfaction. This really is a terribly flimsy solution to a vocal booth, but you do get what you pay for. My intention was to place it inside a full sized portable (pvc pipe) vocal booth. I am hoping between the two “portable” set ups I can record more quietly at home. ... show more
