  • Easy to use, sturdy, works with my recumbent!
You want to know the cons first, don't you? Course you do. So beyond the fact that jesus did I really have to spend $700 for a bike rack... Instructions are bad. Some report receiving booklets with blank pages; even complete ones are better left to one side. Just watch an install video on YouTube. It actually doesn't take that long to get it right and ready to use. Depending on how much you fiddle with it and what your hitch situation is, should take 30-60 minutes. You might need a hitch extender (you can see mine in the side photo). That increases the cost. I needed it to clear my spare tire. Other than that-- pretty good rack! At first I thought they didn't give me bike locks, but they did. You can lock each bike you carry through a lock on the arm. I put it together myself and just needed a little help from someone to tweak it. That was moreso because I am putting a recumbent bike on it, as you see from the photos. The instruction manual explicitly says it does not work with recumbents, but I guess Thule has not met the Cruzbike. It has full size tires and isn't your average recumbent. ... show more

  • Best and easiest bike rack we have used
We purchased this bike rack to use both on the back of our SUV and on the back of our travel trailer. It was a lot of money, but it was worth it! We have had several bike racks, and this one is by far the easiest to use and holds the bikes the most securely. No tools are required to put the rack into the trailer hitch receiver, and it can be adjusted by hand to fit tightly into the receiver so that the rack remains steady and does not rock. The adjustment also locks so the rack cannot be removed from the hitch receiver without a key. The rear wheel holder for each track can be adjusted to the length of the individual bikes allowing different size bikes to be carried. The rear wheel holder can also be moved manually without tools which is very handy when on the road. The rack folds up easily against the back of the car or trailer when not in use again without requiring the use of tools. Our trailer has fold out bed ends, and when the rack is folded, it is still low enough that the bed ends can be lowered without hitting the rack. It has the added benefit of helping to hold any items we want to store on the trailer bumper on the bumper! Loading the bikes is simple, and because this is a tray style rack, the bikes to not need to be lifted that high - a big benefit for smaller women. The arm that holds the front tire folds easily forward or back to get it out of the way when loading the back bike and it slides up and down easily onto the tire. The rachet system that tightens the strap on the rear wheel is easier tro use than the system on the older bike racks, and it releases with a simple press. We can load and unload our two bikes in less than 30 seconds! The cable locks are a nice plus, and they are included on this bike rack at no extra cost. ... show more

  • great rack for e-mtb bikes
We have two e-mtb which are heavier than normal bikes. This rack is very stable and easy to put on and off. I sold my Yakima rack where the bikes hung from their crossbar. It was scratching up my bike frames and possibly damaging the carbon fiber frames. This rack is easy to setup and take the bikes on and off. The security feature is ok but I wouldn't leave my bikes on without keeping an eye on the car. One scary time my son put the bike on and forgot to check. The arm fell off and the bike was dragging behind the vehicle. Fortunately the back strap held and didn't completely release my bike onto the highway. It damaged the handlebar but otherwise unscathed. I think the bar wasn't fully locked down and a bump caused it to release. Since then I'm very careful to triple check the locking mechanism and use the safety lock feature as an extra measure. This would be my only complaint. ... show more

  • Easy set up and take down but no ramp and lock is too short
We have two cars that both have a 2” hitch and super easy to mount. We also have two electric bikes and the are very steady even off road. I would buy this rack again but it’s not without its faults. I wish the locking that pull out and lock the bike were longer. I wish there was a ramp so my wife could do it on her own if needed. Lastly, I wish there was a way to add rear lights built into the rack, both in the up and down position for safety. ... show more

  • Small QC issue
I wanted to give this 5 stars but it arrived in non-working condition. The issue I had was rather small, but could have resulted in an exchange. Basically, there is a handle and lever at the end of the rack that allows it to fold. One of the first steps to the assembly is to pull the lever and fold the rack upward, in storage mode, only my handle wasn’t connected. When I would squeeze the lever, nothing would happen. I knew it was missing some sort of attachment screw internally that makes the lever function. Instead the handle was free and loose. I searched the box but couldn’t find anything. As I was preparing to return it, I gave it a hard shake and heard the loose screw inside. I decided to take apart the handle assembly and was happy to find the necessary attachment screw inside. As it turns out, all I needed to do was insert a long Allen wrench into a small hole and tighten the internal screw, which attaches the internal release assembly to the handle. That fixed the issue and was actually very easy but I had to figure it out. In hindsight this seems like a very-easy-to-miss screw during product assembly and was clearly skipped when this particular unit was built. But where’s the quality control and product testing? The other issue I had was the primitive instructions. They are just very basic illustrations with no words or troubleshooting section. It also lacked an exploded view (for troubleshooting an issue like mine). I even tried their website but found only the same “manual” online. I was also shocked there was no assembly video to be found for this model on YouTube. Besides those things, it’s a fantastic product. ... show more
