This cargo bag is ideal for those that need some extra cargo space on their next adventure, offering 16 cubic feet of storage. Twin compression straps keep cargo securely positioned, even in a heavy rain and winds while the padded base protects your vehicle's finish from abrasion while in transit and when you are taking this bag on and off. The Interstate fits Thule rack systems, round bars and most factory racks via heavy-duty, double-stitched webbing straps (included). • Pretty good rooftop carrier (update)
I have a Yakima system (round crossbars) attached to the standard side rails on our 2015 Toyota RAV4. This bag claims to be compatible with side rails alone. However I can’t begin to see how that’s possible. There are two attachment straps on the front and rear of the bag which can only be used if you have cross bars available. These attachment straps are located low towards the base of the bag and so there don’t “hold the bag down” on to the roof of the vehicle. They just secure the bag side to side / front to rear. I used additional ratchet straps over the top of the bag to secure it onto the roof. Since this is a soft sided bag, the force of wind at highway speeds deforms the bag. But the bag along with the extra straps traveled well in our 700 mile trip to SC. I read some reviews that this bag is not truly waterproof. That is true! It’s, I guess, water resistant. I took the advice of another reviewer and put all of our bags into plastic garbage bags before loading the roof carrier and I’m glad that I did. We drove through occasional light rain... nothing horrible... and there was moisture inside the carrier when I unloaded it at our destination. I can’t imagine how much water might have gotten in had we driven through driving rain. The bag itself is made of very heavy materials and the zipper and cover flap seem very well made. I would have given it 5 stars if the attachment straps were located in a way to more securely attach the bag... also it’s just crazy that there isn’t any provision for attachments to side rails. I’ll ignore how “waterproof” the bag is / is not. It’s cheap and easy insurance to cover luggage in plastic bags. All in all, it’s a “pretty good” rooftop carrier. It’s materials are heavy duty. But the attachment system could use some design updates to allow a more secure attachment. Also they should add attachment points on the sides. As for waterproof, pack your luggage in plastic bags! UPDATE: I need to correct my comments above regarding side attachment points. Upon closer inspection, Thule does provide attachment rings on the sides of the bags. The rings are integral to side straps which hold the cover to the bag. I guess they expect that you will move the straps from the front / rear to the side rings. Given this discovery, I’d only ask then that they’d add 4 more straps so that you could secure the bag on both sides in addition to front / rear. ... show more

  • Durable, Quality product
Ok everyone. I read the other reviews and was honestly concerned about purchasing this product given some of the experiences described. This is my second Thule product, so I thought I would give the Thule Interstate bag a try. I have used this bag twice since purchase on a trip from Charlotte to New York and Jacksonville to Philadelphia, encountering rain on both trips. There was no leakage from the bag, no damage from wind, tears or fraying. Honestly, it still looks brand new today. Strapping the carrier to the roof rails correctly is important, taping or knotting extra nylon strap belt material,so it does not blow in the wind is helpful, (dependent on your car this could be 4 inches to 6 inches of material. If you are concerned about the bag moving or flying off, there are additional hooks that will work with other straps or bungee cords. Do not overfill the bag. My only desire would be for the bag to be larger, but since it fits between the rails on the roof rack, the space is limited. I used the Interstate on a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it just fit between the roof rack rails when they were separated at the full distance. This is not a hard sided case that bolts to a roof rack and offers more space, and security. But it is easier to place on a car and much easier to store as it rolls up and can be put back in the original box. ... show more

  • Great Cargo Bag
This product worked perfectly for my family trip. We needed something to put a few suitcases in and other items to free up space inside the vehicle. I used this on my 5th Generation TRD 4Runner with TRD Pro luggage rack. We drove for 12 hours at 80mph average through the 95 degree heat and many rain storms. No leaking in the cargo bag and no tears of any kind. Anyone on here posting that they had rips or leakage are doing it wrong. You see Amazon should require a basic common sense test before allowing the purchase of this item and others. You can't throw items in the bag with sharp edges and fail to tighten properly and then proceed to drive 110 mph on your journey and expect to have zero consequences. I used this thing called a brain when securing this product. I put in my suitcases and then also put the beach towels I was already carrying around the suitcase wheels. I also put the pillows and bags of shoes around in the empty spaces to fill the whole bag. I used some short bungies and secured the strap ends so they didn't vibrate and bang the vehicle and or bag for 12 hours going 80mph. Simple thought processes y'all will give you an amazing experience with this here product. ... show more

  • Sturdy and QUIET cargo bag
Used this cargo bag to move my daughter's stuff to college and was really impressed with how solid this pack is while on top of the roof. First of all it was SUPER quiet as long as you tuck the straps away so they don't flap in the wind. The bag NEVER moved while on top. However, I did get my own straps to attach it to the front rail so it would not slide backwards. They should include these in the box, but they don't. The bag itself is very lightweight and we actually packed it inside first and then put it on top of the car. The zippers are very well sewn in and don't seem like they will rip or fail. The pack is NOT waterproof and I had read this ahead of time. We drove about 1.5 hours in a rain storm. I had already packed everything inside in garbage bags and vacuum sealed bags so was prepared. Glad I did because the bottom of the bag had let water in. But not the sides or top. Nothing terrible, but if I had not wrapped everything our items would have been wet. I love that once we unpacked, I just took the bag off the roof and folded it up and left it inside my car. I would have given this 5 stars but I'm not a fan of the straps they chose, as they are hard to get really tight onto the rack. They also need to include locking straps as the bag would be super easy to steal off of a car and all the contents. And lastly, they should include stabilizer straps so you can keep the bag from sliding backwards. ... show more
