  • I should have done this earlier
Style: Sports Seat
I use a cane after spinal surgery, and even with my slightly weakened back muscles and feet that are a trainwreck, it does me just fine. BUT - I learned a couple of weeks ago that my foot pain especially will now keep me from being able to walk all day at my favorite theme park (Disneyland). I got there midday Sunday and by the time I left was in so much pain that the week ahead looked unsurvivable. I caved and the next day, rented my first ECV from the park. At 67. I had no plans to ever use one; "it will make me look old." Well, to my surprise, the ones they rent are very good, considering that they are rented to idiots like me who have never used one. They're fairly quick, very maneuverable and I was sold. I had researched compact foldable ones when I saw a woman during my June DL trip on one (different maker). 30 minutes into my day, I was on Snap n Go's page at Amazon, reading the reviews. 10 minutes later, I had ordered one to be shipped to my hotel. They were kind enough to say that yes, I could have it sent there. It arrived the next day and when I got back from the park in the evening, it was unboxing time. Warning: the box is big, and may worry you. Don't be worried; it's just packed really well. It arrived almost completely assembled; all I had to do was take it out, open it up (it really does snap into place), install the seat (put it in its spot and add/tighten the knob) and put the battery on. The battery is small but mighty, and locks on with a key. I ordered the sport seat, as I disliked the armrests on the rented one. Impression: the best thing I've bought since I bought my Xterra, lol. I'm 67, have arthritis, a weak back and f*d up feet. I can easily lift the folded scooter into the cargo area of my Xterra. It's EASY to fold: remove the seat, step on the very sturdy pedal at the base of the tiller and presto. The battery life is still undetermined. I rode it all day at DL, 9 or more hours a day, and the light was still green. I did charge the battery every night, as I didn't want to find myself without power. Now that I'm home, I'll take a day to see how long it will go. And I do mean I rode it all over: Disneyland is big, and I went from the north end of DL to the south end of DCA. No problem. The battery is easy to remove and take inside to charge, so if you don't want to bring the whole scooter in, you can still charge it easily. It's very speedy. I kept it on 2 (there are three speed levels) and could nip around slow walkers with no effort. I did put it on 3 a couple of times to go up hills, but 2 will leave most walkers in the dust. The induction brake (letting go of the throttle) is super effective; it will stop on a dime, which is a blessing when people walk right in front of you and stop. The hand brake is very strong, and is useful in a crowd. As I have arthritis that affects hand strength, I did have to use my right hand to set the parking brake (a separate tab on the hand brake), but I don't see this as a flaw. It's very strong, and keeps the scooter from moving when parked. I would prefer a strong brake to one that I can set easily with a weaker hand. The tires are well made; you will feel the bumps from rough pavement (Disney has a lot of cobbled terrain), but it's not uncomfortable at all. The entire scooter feels so solid and well made, it's hard to believe it's light enough for me to lift into my car. I was afraid that I would be uneasy about a three wheeled scooter, but this never felt as if it would tip over; it's very safe. And I tested that! I can't think of one downside to this purchase. One person commented that there's no key lock for the scooter; it can be ridden away with by anyone. Easy fix: the U handle on the back is the perfect place to attach a steel cable bike lock. You can lock it to any pole or fence. Could they make it a keyed unit? Probably. But it would end up being less compact and easy to use. You can indeed find compact scooters for around $600, just as you can find at least one make whose product is about $1200. The more expensive one has plenty of negative reviews about the company, and the cheaper ones are poorer quality. With this scooter, you get a solid, well built product that is super easy to set up and use and top notch customer support. You won't get a better scooter. Edit: I'd like to add a big thumbs up for the customer service. I registered it after my trip, and added a comment about how delighted I am with it. A few days later, the owner, Robert, called me to thank me for the comment and ask for any suggestions about how it could be improved. We had a great conversation, and I was impressed. I've never been contacted by any company about their product, much less the owner. And unlike many people, he listened to what I had to say. I will repeat: you will be happy with your purchase. Second edit: I took it to the Phoenix Zoo for the Zoolights. So. Many. Hills. And my scooter simply laughed at them. I never felt as if I wouldn't make it up a long hill. VIDEO: As I have been unable after 7 attempts to get the video review on this page, it is on YouTube. Title: Product demo for SNAPNGO mobility scooter. ... show more

  • A Disabled Person's Review
Style: Deluxe Seat
I previously owned a 4-wheel scooter, with two heavy lawn and garden batteries, that was impossible to use unless I had someone with me to help take it apart and put together. That negates the ability of being more independent, so for my needs, my next mobility scooter needed to be light, simple to setup, with good battery life. I am a left leg above-the-knee amputee with extensive nerve damage, in my early 40's. Unpacking the scooter was easy and fast. It does require some lifting, but nothing is so heavy that it couldn't be done by myself. The only assembly required was to install the foot pads which was just a quick three screws with locking washers. Everything else was already assembled. The battery was charged roughly 50% and required another hour of charging time before use. The instruction manual is helpful and easy to understand. Included is a 10mm wrench which is a nice bonus, as well as an allen wrench to install the bracket for the seat. Total setup time took me no more than 30 minutes. Right off the bat, this mobility scooter is designed to be lightweight and easy to assemble/disassemble. Everything on this scooter seems to revolve around being easy and lightweight. The battery itself is a snap to remove and charge. It weighs practically nothing, and yet provides solid power for the day. I love how I can leave the unit in my car, and just bring the battery inside after use. Less hauling around, easy to use for a disabled person. I believe the seat is the heaviest part of the entire scooter, but even that is very easy to manage. I'm still amazed at how light the scooter is considering that it supports up to 300lbs. I can pack and unpack it from my Ford Escape with very little effort, about three minutes. The foot pedal to lock/unlock the folding portion is a bit tricky to master at first, it does require some force with your foot to get it to unlock so you can fold/unfold the unit. But, once it's locked, it's very solid. You certainly can charge the battery in the scooter if you don't want to remove it, with an easy access port on the front of the unit. The controls are simple and easy to use. I especially like the digital display, and the fact that it is backlit when you turn on the headlight and rear safety light. The headlight itself is LED, and throws a considerable amount of light in front of you. It came in handy at my son's recent baseball game, where the parking lot had no lights, and I needed to be seen as I was making my way back to the car. The three power modes are nice, but this scooter will require some starting room before going up some steeper hills, depending on how much weight is on it. I find that low works best for the store and the mall with my family, anything faster and they're jogging to keep up with me. On more flat and smoother terrain, it never skips a beat. Folding this unit is fast and requires very little space to store. It really is impressive. The locking mechanism is substantial and strong. I do have a few concerns, but they wouldn't stop me from purchasing this unit again. First, the hand brake is not very strong when holding the scooter in place while getting into the seat. It does work, but it doesn't keep the scooter completely still when locked. If you or a loved one parks on a lot of hills or inclines, this may be worth mentioning. It will still roll, just not quickly. However, when in operation, the hand brake works perfectly and stops the scooter quickly. Second, there is zero suspension on this unit, which means you will feel every bump and crack on the pavement. Since this is a three wheeled scooter, care must be taken when driving in areas where there may be stones or rocks on your path, and big gaps in concrete can cause a rough ride. This scooter does not do well in grass and on rocks. It's designed for smoother surfaces, requiring little suspension. If you're looking for something to go on unpaved park paths, gravel, or grassy areas, I would not recommend this scooter. Overall, this scooter is easy and fun to operate. I do get stopped from time to time, asked where I got it, how modern it looks, and lots of questions about the actual weight of the unit. The seat is very comfortable, assembly is simple, and it has given me back a lot of my time so I can be with my family and not miss out on the fun. This scooter isn't your average mobility device and has substantial pieces, hardware, seat, lights, and fittings. It's engineered well, and for all of the metal pieces, it weighs almost nothing. The tires are very solid, very little give in them, which is how they're able to not go flat and leave the rider stranded. Even the turn radius is manageable, and the grips are comfortable on your hands. My kids love ringing the included bell on the handlebars when I'm not looking. From a disabled person's point-of-view, I can say that I recommend this scooter completely. If you're transitioning from a four-wheeled device, you will need to learn how to operate it with one less wheel, but the overall experience of this scooter from start to finish is outstanding. I have some independence back, and I can even go out by myself without needing someone to tag along just to get my wheels out of the car. I admit that this is expensive, but.... for me, how can I put a price on independence? Real independence that doesn't require someone else to do all of the heavy lifting, assembly, loading, and packing. This scooter lets me do it myself. I love it. 8/19 Update: Experienced some problems with my battery not holding a charge. Contacted customer support via email, Lori was very helpful and took my concern very seriously. A new battery was issued quickly (after testing the old battery and providing me with a loaner battery while waiting) and have had zero issues since. Outstanding customer service. No other issues with my scooter, still ticks like a clock and works great. ... show more
