We have tried it all: baby gate things, the straps, the plastic things that go over the door handle. Nothing kept our large dog from getting some “treats” out of the litter box. He just plowed through the gate and the straps, and nudged the plastic things until they popped open. This, he cannot defeat! We have two cats that need their space from our dog who loves to mess with the cats' food and litter. We initially used one of those cloth latches that adhere to the door and the wall but that was short lived after my fat cat ended up busting through the door and tearing the latch off the wall. I ended up looking for a sturdier option that could not be ripped up by a fat cat or determined dog and came across this latch. The installation was quick and easy, although there were little to no instruction so I can see how some may have issues with installing. The latch swings backward to open the door when needed, although this is a two-handed operation. Before finding this I bought a plastic door strap that goes over the doorknob. My 15lb dog was able for force her way through and break it within a couple days. I found this and couldn’t wait to try it. Keeps both my small dog and big dog out of the cat litter and cat food. I’m going to order a 2nd for another door in my house. My Dog is disappointed with this product, but I love it. This was easy to attach. It keeps my dog out of the cats’ bowls but my cats can easily get through the doorway.

    • Keeps the beagle out!
Over the years, we have tried many different products to keep our beagle out of the room, where our cat litter and cat food live. We consider it a win if it keeps the beagle out for over a month. This device has kept the beagle out the week that we have had it up. I will update if that changes but he seems pretty deterred, there is literally no movement when he attempts to get in and I don’t hear him trying anymore. It was easy to adjust for the girth of our larger cat and easy to install in place of the original strike plate.
