  • Takes a little work, but works great if you can manage it!
Color: Green
I was a little skeptical after reading reviews of this type of product (and purchased this one because it had better reviews than others did). I don't use a whole lot of ice, but freezer space is tight in my home, and I hate having so much space taken up by regular ice cube trays that I can't really put anything above (because the ice would get dirty) or below (because it would be uneven, so water would spill). This is not a huge thing - it doesn't hold a ton of ice. It doesn't make big cubes. But it does what it says. I like that it has a lid, too - everything stays clean. I didn't find it too hard to get the ice out in between making batches - just press around the sides before removing the cup, to loosen things up. The cup holds about 3 batches worth of ice. In my photo, I have 3 batches in the cup and a 4th batch being stores in the edge compartment. The tricky part is trying to get the outside (ice-making) area as full as possible without spilling any water into the center cup. For the first fill, it's easy because if you mess up, you can just dump out the water and start over. (Or if you end up with a little spilled in the bottom of the cup on the first batch, no big deal.) For 2nd and 3rd batches, when the cup has some "made" ice in it, you really don't want to spill water into the cup of ice, because it will just freeze the already-made ice cubes together into a block. I've found if I'm paying attention and being careful, it's easy to avoid this. Holding the cup down while putting water in the edge section helps. If you realize the cup started floating a little, tilt the whole thing to pour out some of the water, push the cup back down, and start filling it again. (If you fill the sides, realize the cup has floated, and *then* push it back down, water quickly spills over the top, which you want to avoid.) ... show more

  • It works!
Color: Green
I like that the ice is contained and doesn't taste like"freezer". It fits well in the freezer and can have stuff piled up on it and around it. It looks cool and everyone wants to know what is this? It's a little hard to get used to using..the plastic floats up when you fill it the first time. After the first batch of ice goes in it's easier-but then it kind of melts together...but you can chop it loose with a knife or fork. I would buy it again, I like it! ... show more

  • Difficult to fill
Color: Blue
Its fun and easy to use other than filling up from a filtered water pitcher. You have to carefully pull the side away from the internal core. Its not impossible but its not easy.

  • Best quarantine purchase!
Color: Blue
Our built in ice maker died years ago. For the past ten years, I've purchased my ice at the Steak n Shake drive thru near my house. But then, the pandemic hit, and Steak n Shake closed their doors. Panic set in... where am I to get my ice? I despise traditional ice cube trays as I find them messy, cumbersome, and they take up too much freezer space. So, while locked up with nowhere to go, I searched Amazon for ice making alternatives. I stumbled upon this little gadget. I'm going to be honest... I wasn't expecting to like it. But thought it was worth a shot. Man, was I wrong! This thing is AWESOME!! HAHA!! I LOVE IT!! Once I figured out how far to fill it to prevent spillage, it was absolute ice perfection! The water freezes quicker than traditional ice cube trays, and makes enough ice for about two hearty drink cups. The key to success is to figure out the right amount of water to fill so that it doesn't overflow when placing the plastic cylinder container into the silicone. Once you've got that, it's easy. Place the container in the freezer to freeze. Once frozen, remove the lid. I then give the container a few solid squeezes along the top rim to break the cylinder free, then pull on it to slide it out. You're then left with the silicone sleeve filled with ice cubes. I then squeeze the silicone sleeve, causing the cubes to pop out. I then dump them into a storage bucket in the freezer, and start all over again. Super simple. I don't typically write Amazon reviews, but I really like this product! It's well made too, so I expect to get years of use out of it. BEST QUARANTINE PURCHASE EVER! ... show more

  • Save your money! Seriously!
Color: Pink
My boyfriend has an ice problem. He wants it in every drink. I, however, have lived most of my adult life without ice in my freezer only occasionally buying a bag at the store for margarita nights. I should just buy one of the stupid machines but can't justify giving up the counter space for one. I always think ice from the freezer smells. I don't know why. I've cleaned and bleached and done everything I can. It just has a distinct "freezer" flavor. So I wanted something that could make ice but be "enclosed". This seemed like a great idea. It makes the ice. It stores the ice. It looks simple. Annnnnd it's complete garbage. First observation... when trying to fill the space between the cup and the silicone, the cup will try to float. You basically have to hold it in a way so that it is pushed against the bottom AND allows you to add water. Then, you have to try and put the lid on which somehow seems trickier when dealing with the floating interior cup. If you've added too much, it'll spill. If you haven't, it wont spill but you wont get any ice. The plus side? It freezes pretty quickly. After freezing, you squeeze the outside. This will cause the thin ice to break and release the interior cup. You can then squeeze the silicone cup to further break down the "cubes" inside before pouring them into the cup for storage. Keep in mind, if you decide to refill it you have to manage NOT to get water in the interior cup while filling or putting the lid on. Really, the only plus side is that it freeze quickly. The ice cubes this thing makes are like sharp little ice shards. And they're little, so they melt fast. I really tried to make it work, but for as annoying as I find it, I should have just bought the stupid machine that sits on the counter and makes ice in 7 minutes. ... show more
