Honestly, this Gorilla Grip can opener is pretty great. I picked it up because I was tired of struggling with cheap ones that leave those nasty, sharp edges. This thing is sturdy and the handles are super comfy—they're soft and big, which is a lifesaver if your hands get sore easily or you have arthritis. The best part is the cut: it actually works perfectly every time, giving you a smooth edge on the can lid so you don't have to worry about cutting yourself. My only real gripe, and it's kind of a pain, is that you have to hand wash and completely dry it right away or it'll rust. It has worked very well for several days. The test will be whether it ceases to work in six months, like the previous openers (different brands) we have purchased. It has started out well with high grades for ease of use and ability to open different cans.

I held off replacing my old once-reliable can opener as long as I could but it became a real chore to operate and made my hand hurt. So after searching online and reading reviews on Amazon I chose the GORILLA GRIP can opener with the black handle. Great choice - the grip is very comfortable for my big hands and my wife's smaller hands, and its stainless steel blade cuts as smooth as silk! The oversize crank rotates smoothly and is also easy to grip. It is available in a dozen different colors to match your kitchen decor. This can opener didn’t get 5 stars because I haven’t used it yet. Appearance-wise, it has larger handles than the one that’s over 20 years old and hopefully that isn’t an issue with the carpal tunnel and arthritis. My handspan is much wider on this one to hold it. The blades look sharp and if I read right, they are stainless. My old ones are kind of rusty looking and I noticed that one getting duller. My problem with this one is that it’s made in China and would much prefer more American made products. I hope it holds up to the other reviews. I just might hold on to the old ones for awhile just in case. It’s been enough time passed that I can add to my original review. I have been able to use this can opener several times and now I can say that I am actually disappointed in it. I do like that it feels good in my hand, I like the thickness of the grip for my arthritic hand. However, on the cans I opened, I did notice that the gear mechanism “slipped” several times on each can lid. The opener did not come off the lid, it continued to grip the can, but the opener did not progress around the lid. That’s unacceptable to me when a product cannot do the job it was designed to do. I am glad I hung on to my old Swing-Away but I still need a new one after 22 years. In the process, I would change this to only a 2 or 3 star rating, at best. I will be purchasing the equivalent of my Swing-Away and will throw this one out as I don’t have the original cardboard it came on in order to return it.
