Description

He followed me. He broke my peace, and I embraced the noise. He tore apart all I believed about myself, and I reveled in the chaos. He brought me back to life. His promise remains with me, even now. Wherever you are, I am. It began with the sensation of being watched. I thought it was my imagination or a bit of paranoia. After all, I'm not accustomed to living in the woods and my job as a true crime author makes me hypervigilant. Even the first time he called my name, I convinced myself it was only the wind. Until now. The man standing uninvited in my home is beautiful in a way thatโ€™s almost awful to look at and impossible to ignore. His intense gaze tears through me while his impassive expression gives nothing away. This should be terrifying. It is, and yet it enlivens me. He rouses something in me that's long been dormant. A desire for life. And for him. Read more

  • Twisted and dark!
I was so engrossed by this story right away- the turmoil, despair, loneliness and darkness this book gave to it's main character, Darcy, was a heavy weight on her soul. She pulled herself up and through so much heartbreak, bullying and abuse in her teen years that I wondered, how much more could she take and how long could she go one this way?? I could feel her pain like it was my own sometimes. Then, when things started to look up, strange though her situation seemed to be, she was happy and I was so happy for her to finally find some comfort and pleasure to look forward to. Twists, turns, suspense, fear, worry for her and her happiness and then...BAM!!! WTH did I just read???? Well, I have to leave you with that...this really should be a go in blind kind of book. There are elements here that warrant personal discovery. I thought I had the twists all figured out but NO I did NOT...nope! I hope other readers don't spoil any plots here..that would be such a crime! ... show more

  • Not what I expected..
Ok, it is REALLY hard to review this book and not give away spoilers but holy hell did this book mess me up! It is a well written suspense, dark, romance. It is sad but not a tearful sad book.. Just sad because of all of the stuff the characters go through. It is totally messed up and I seriously do not know how authors write this stuff. The warning I will give us that if you are looking for an HEA look elsewhere. There may be triggers for some due to abortion, abuse and homelessness. I'm simply distraught after reading this book. I have no other words. ... show more

Nor am I going to examine that too deeply today. I literally donโ€™t know what to tell you about this book, other than that I read it, in one sitting. Actually, I devoured this book in mere hours, only taking a small break to chat with the friend that recommended it to me. Otherwise, I ignored everything. My husband, the kids, the pets, the chores, the AMAZON guy, my phone, the whole world honestly. And now that Iโ€™ve finished, I only wish that I could unread and read for the first time all over again. I was on my toes the whole time, trying to figure it all out, and kicking my own butt for not being Nancy Drew. Donโ€™t come to me for a solved mystery, because when I tell you I was stunned, I do not joke. STUNNED. This was absolutely INCREDIBLE and EVERYONE needs to read it. ... show more

  • What did I just read?
The Dark of You completely gripped me until the very last page, at which point it slapped me across the face and laughed. I was so sure that I knew where the book was going about halfway through, so I flipped to the last page and was pleasantly surprised. Imagine my shock when I realized what led *up to* that last page completely changed the outcome. Grab a drink, settle in for a while, and enjoy this twisted journey. Iโ€™ll just be over here in the corner, rocking back and forth and trying to recover. ... show more

  • A twisted out of this world book that was one of the best books I've read this year!
If I could give this book 10 Stars I would! Simple phenomenal! I went into this story blind. I read one snippet of the blurb and knew I had to read this. I am so glad I did. S.M. Shade is a new to me author and when I tell you I have had a book hangover, this book hangover has lasted me days!! But I wouldn't change it for the world. Darcy's story is dark and she slowly you takes you down the rabbit hole with her. I literally had chills with each page. The Dark of You is completely unexpected and will throw you off every theory you will think of and that outcome, baby I did not see that coming. I have literally been telling everyone I know TO READ THIS BOOK!! This is one of the best books I've read in a long long time. Ms. Shade has truly outdone herself and I cannot wait to read more of work. ... show more

  • Maybe I just wasnโ€™t in the right mood for this bookโ€ฆ
This is a hard review to write. This book is fairly well written even if it is a little predictable. I found myself skipping to the end, as I often do when Iโ€™m not connecting to a book. And, I just couldnโ€™t get on board. Darcy and Reece were just not that like-able as characters. I felt no connection to them perhaps because they had very little connection to anything concrete in the book. Or, perhaps itโ€™s that I could see the plot twist right away? I donโ€™t know. I found it to be repetitive in places as well. But, like I said, it was written well and itโ€™s obvious the author was trying something new. It just wasnโ€™t for me. ... show more

  • The book I never knew I desired that left me gobsmacked
Just when you think you know an author. Wow. I have not read a book of S.M. Shade's that I did not like. I relate to her take on relationships, her angsty books that bring me so many feelings, and her romantic comedies that simply make me laugh out loud. So I figured I knew her style and I thought I was prepared for this book. I WAS WRONG. This masterfully written book grabbed my face in book one and forced me to experience so many emotions as I became obsessed with Darcy's story. You may think you know this author, but prepare to be pleasantly (or uncomfortably) surprised. As per all of her books, the characters are very well developed, and the story flows nicely. I refuse to say more so that I do no ruin the experience. I for one hope she continues to explore her darker side in future books. I recommend you abandon all of your assumptions about her work and dive into this book completely blind. You will not regret it. ... show more
