  • A fantastic book!
This is different than what Micalea usually writes. Though there is a romance and a good feeling throughout, there is still a dark and mysterious undertone to it. I really enjoyed the first book in this series and that was where we met Liam. I was very intrigued about him and I couldn’t wait to find out more. He keeps his true self hidden from everyone-including his friends and hides away from his family. So I couldn’t wait to dive more into him. Though this story is not just about discovering Liam but also the heroine Ari (Ariella). When we first meet Ari, she is hiding a major secret and keeping her past life hidden. Throughout the book, we get hints of her previous situation but we don’t fully discover what it it until later on. It was a total mystery and Micalea kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure Ari out. When Ari and Liam meet, you are able to see their dynamic and attraction. They are more alike then they thought even though they come from different backgrounds. It was great to see their changes throughout the book-both individually and together. They were amazing characters and I really loved them. Get ready for a heart-pounding ride. Micalea had me so hooked into this book-especially towards the end. I couldn’t read fast enough to see what happens next and how it will all end. It was just so good. Overall, this was a fantastic read that pulls out all the stops. Micalea gets a reader invested in her story. This is a book you will be engrossed in and enjoy. ... show more

  • I want to start this by saying that this is one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen
First of all, I want to start this by saying that this is one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen. It's something that attracted me to this book before I even read the blurb. Then I read the blurb and I knew I would have to read this. It sounded like something I would enjoy, and I did! I really enjoyed this. I loved these characters. Ari and Liam really captured my heart. They both had their issues and my heart hurt for both of them when I found out why they were the way they were. Liam who had been betrayed and Ari who had escaped from hell. As a couple they worked for me. I was rooting for them through the good and bad times. And I was so relieved when they were able to work things out between them. There were also some great secondary characters. Ollie and Talia are two who stand out. After what happened to them, I would love for them to get a book, to watch them heal or even to see how they met. The only complaint I have is wanting more from the ending. It was lovely, don't get me wrong. But I also wouldn't mind more. I kind of feel like it needed just a little bit more. ... show more

  • A new favorite?
This is something a little different from Micalea. She doesn't go totally off the rails or anything, but it's definitely a darker read than her other work. But she tells this story beautifully and I was completely taken by these characters. There were so many times that I was angry with Liam, but as he revealed himself to us, I would fall in love with him again. And Ari was such a secret, but instead of giving up on her, you just kept wanting to know more. If you are a Micalea fan, you will want to read this one. And it may just become your new favorite. ... show more

  • I liked the story until the lose ends at the end of the book.
I enjoyed the book until the very end. I feel like the closure was pretty weak. Like to the point, that when I went to bed last night my brain tried to rewrite it in my dreams. I feel like even an added epilogue could have at least given better closure.

  • Suspenseful, Gripping And A Page Turner From Start To End!
The Lies That Define Us was a great story, a darker and more suspenseful story by Micalea Smeltzer, but a really intriguing story that kept me hoked from the start to the end. Liam and Ari are two characters who are both so complicated, and that is what makes them so imperfectly perfect. While The Road That Leads To Us was much lighter and had an amazing pair, Liam and Ari too matched up to that bar and proved again that Micalea is a brilliantly talented author with a way with words. Can't wait to read more in the Us series! - Brownie points for that sexy cover! - ... show more

  • A Must Read!!
WOW what an amazing book! I couldn't wait to read Liam's story especially after TRTLTU. Both Liam and Ari have secrets hidden that bonds them in a way they never expected. There so many twist and turns that you don't know what happens next and keeps you in suspense. I really loved Liam, Ari, Ollie and Talia and I can't wait to see what happens next with them. Grace's story is next and I can't wait to see what Micalea has in stores for her story. Don't wait and one-click this amazing book!! ... show more

  • ❤️
I fell in love with Liam! He was so like his dad, he guarded his heart so closely it was wonderful to watch him drop the guard and fall for Ari. Ari's story was heartbreaking she if anyone deserved her happy ending. I also loved seeing Mathias he is so great with Liam! My one complaint is that I miss the epilogues 😢 ... show more

  • Surfing and a Mystery
4.5 Stars This book was different compared to any other book Micalea has written. I enjoyed the mystery aspect, and even though I knew what was coming, it played out in a way that surprised me. When I first read about Liam in The Road That Leads To Us, I couldn't wait for his story to come out so I could find out more about him and the chip on his shoulder. There were a few parts where I questioned the believability, but overall I enjoyed this book and recommend it. ... show more
