Description

Private Investigator Harrison Fisher’s new case isn’t going the way he'd hoped. Wearing a collar, pretending he’s submissive, searching for a Dom who can get him into Hell's Bedroom, the elite BDSM club where a seventeen-year- old boy has gone missing—his first time working undercover is really stretching his boundaries. He’s always wondered if BDSM might be for him, but this wasn’t how he intended to find out. And how can he be honest about what he wants sexually when he can’t be honest about anything else? When Cash meets the handsome man brimming with nervous energy, he feels like he’s struck gold. Cash isn’t the most dominant of tops, but he’s got a wide repertoire of skills, and he’d be happy to practice every single one of them on Harry, the sub who’s so new to the scene he doesn’t even know his own kinks. But the closer he gets to Harry, the more obvious it becomes that Harry isn’t who he claims to be.As Harrison flirts with both BDSM and Cash, one missing person turns into two. Someone at Hell’s Bedroom is abducting vulnerable subs, and it’s going to take more than just Harrison to bring them home. It’s going to take a whole kinky village. Read more

  • Tanya Chris's best yet
This title actually intrigued me before I even realized the author was Tanya Chris, who's never written a book I haven't enjoyed. Chris is a writing machine and all of her experience is obvious in this book. It's just!!! so!! good!! I've read romances where there was a splash of mystery, and mysteries with a touch of romance, but Chris somehow interweaved the two so perfectly that neither overshadowed the other. I wanted to know the ending! I wanted justice! TO SAVE ARLO!! But I also needed Cash and Harrison to sort through their own issues and find happiness with each other. It was just so masterfully done. I expected the whole gay-cop-undercover plot to be cheesy, and would have been 100% on board if it had been, but it somehow wasn't. I can't quite put my finger on what made it so layered and brilliant, but it was like Tanya Chris took the structural formula of a mystery book and applied it to a romance. It made me realize how many things in common the two genres have, and now I'm just surprised that this isn't done more often. Possibly because it must be very hard to interweave plot and characterization that tightly within a book, where almost every scene is pushing both the investigation and the relationship forward. I loved the little details so much: the unseen hamster, the angry fish, the tough tattoo artist sister, Cash's consistent kink-cluelessness which felt like an affectionate, long-running joke. On a serious note, I hadn't realized how dark this book's themes were going to be. This is probably the darkest romance I've ever read. However, I'm someone who's very sensitive to nonconsent in stories, and this was a distinctly non-traumatizing read for me, which I really appreciate. Our protagonists were so thoroughly good-hearted and focused on justice that a constant light was shone on the darkness. Nothing ever seemed minimized or exploitative, and I'm eager to see the investigation continue in book 2. So happy this will be a proper series! ... show more

  • Enjoy this author but this isn't a fave
This author's book, Aftercare, is an all-time favorite, so I have high standards for Tanya Chris. Kitchen Sink Dom has a good plot, interesting side characters and an interesting main character in Cash. And I like the kink! Different than I have read previously, interesting and 🔥. Possible spoilers follow. I have two reasons why this does not get 5 stars nor do I plan to reread this book. First, I don't feel like a really got to know Cash or Harrison. For this being a full -length book, with alternating POV, the details about the main characters are oddly sparse. For example, Cash's apartment is colorful, but what colors? What drives their kinks? Or their decisions? Does Cash like his job? Why did Harrison leave the police force? So many tiny details that could have been included to fully flesh-out the characters, without adding to the word count or taking away from the plot. Second, Harrison is loudly, rudely judgmental about kink and doesn't show any personal growth despite being exposed to people enjoying the lifestyle, people hurting, and learning from Cash and others. He is still judgmental near the end so it was really hard for me to like him. (And made me wish Cash could have someone better which is not good for a romance.) I will read the next in the series as I am invested now in how the continuing plot is resolved and I like to support my favorite authors. I hope these MCs appear in the rest of the series and maybe Harrison can become less judgmental. ... show more

  • Loved this start to a new series.
When I started reading this, Harrison gave me a Sam Spade, film noir feel. I mean, he's a PI. That the client is a teen, with no way to pay, and he takes the case, shows more of the person Harrison really is. He's intrigued that it's set in the world of BDSM. Something he tried once and wasn't going to again, no matter how much he'd thought about it. Cash was an amazing character from the start. He's not the typical Dom and that is what I loved about him. And my heart hurt that he's had such a hard time finding the guy for him, that accepted his brand of being a Dom. He and Harrison make the cutest couple, once they get past preconceived ideas, hurts, and fears. This story has everything that makes a story great. There's humor, some angst, suspense, and mystery too. The well-written plot pulls you along the pages. The characters are amazing and so varied. This is a great insight into the world of BDMS but lets you see that it's okay to make it your own type. As long as it's safe, sane, and consensual. ... show more

  • Sweet with heat and wonderfully captivating
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I began reading this book but I was drawn in at once and enjoyed myself immensely. Ex-cop Harrison puts a lot on the line as he works a missing persons case, setting aside a ghost from his teenaged past in order to go undercover as a sub. He lucks out in meeting Cash, a gentleman Dom who’d love to call Harrison his man if only he could get the guy to focus on *him* as opposed to the goings on at the club that brought them together. Watching Harrison grump his way along a journey of self discovery was hilarious and heartwarming, and I fell hard for Cash and his big, open heart. There are plenty of shenanigans and snark set in my home city of Boston, but the mystery at the story’s core provided a great balance for the snappy dialogue and kept things real. Big bonus points too for a cast of secondary characters I instantly wanted to know more about, including the haughty Mr. Moo, silent feline witness who sits in judgement of everyone who crosses his path. ... show more

  • Quick, easy read
I've read most of Tanya Chris's works, and find them consistently well written, with interesting characters and great plot. This one is a little lighter in tone (though the plot has some pretty heavy aspects) and kink. I think Aftercare is amazing. This is merely very good in comparison. However I really enjoyed it and pre ordered the next in the series. So she's in good form, and it's a good read for people getting into BDSM books. And I liked both Harrison and Cash, and really enjoyed their increasingly real relationship. ... show more
