The media could not be loaded. I purchased 2 of the Whisper EX30 units for my 33 gallon long tank. Both work flawlessly and quietly. I even took a short video of them. Finally the air circulation system in the building shut off so I could tape this (Very rare, building owner doesn't like people suffocating in the building and dying I guess), both of these units run quietly enough together that the little bubbler is louder then them. The video is filmed in dead silence in the middle of the night. TV easily drowns these out. They do make a little hum, not a big deal, they all hum a little. These truly are whispers, if yours isn't, talk to someone about it and get it replaced, you have a defective unit. Neither has given me any trouble, both work the same and are very reliable. You can also see the water is crystal clear, my water is never any worse then it is in the video, even right before a bi-monthly water change. Only thing that bothered me, not enough to take away a star, was it is a little snug on the tank, good in some cases, I just like a bit of play because down the road if they ever do start vibrating or such, I could put a thin foam pad between them and the tank and loud pumps go quiet then. Did that with the Aqua-Tech I had prior to these because it screamed like a banshee right outta the box. Seriously impressed with these units though, and fitting snugly is probably a good thing. And by snug I mean, it fits like a glove, no forcing it on or anything, fits right down as it should, but has no play. Like it was machined to fit (On my tank anyhow). PS - Disappointed with the FEDEX guy though, slacker entered delivery attempt when none was made since I was here the whole time, gate unlocked and open. No door tag provided, secretary and surveillance cams saw no sign of him anywhere that day, didn't even drive past. Had to pick this up 2 days later and talked to manager. Disciplinary action took place before I had even left, glad I wasn't that guy, they were really tearing a strip off him. ... show more

I got this filter for my goldfish since my little filters were just not enough. This was a huge game changer! My tank is clean and I’ve had it for a couple months now, less full tank water changes needed and it’s very quiet. One critique I have is that the filter cage/holder isn’t very sturdy, I wish it would snap together so it was easier to put back in. That said, it’s still worth it. Purchased this for a lidless, 10 gal tank. Works great, filters water. Bigger than expected. Theres not really any room to add additional filter media to filter compartment. Not very loud but, is the loudest out of the 4 filters i own. Nice flow but its not adjustable. 'net end' of intake siphon tubing is an elongated bulb shape thats too large to fit small 'filter intake' sponges, tiny fry would easily pass thru openings to impeller. Minimum Water Level needed for filter is 'too high' to keep water line lower for critters such as mystery snails. Its not a bad product. It works for what it was intended. Bought September 24 it’s December 31 and it stopped working. This whole brand has went down the drain. I want a refund. It’s ridiculous! Had another smaller one went out after a couple months.

I have used 4 different filters in my tall 30 gallon tank. None of them did the job very well—until now. This filter cleared up my very dirty tank in minutes!!! Since we have well water that’s not really good for drinking, we buy and refill 5-gallon jugs. It’s a lot of trouble to replace water when we clean our tank, so I depend heavily on the filter pump. I always use filter-pumps that are rated for 30+ gallon aquariums and change my filters frequently. I use Fritz’s Zyme sludge remover at least once a month. That usually keeps me from having to do a lot of water changes. Since I’ve had my 30 gallon tall aquarium, I’ve had a lot of trouble keeping it clean. The last filter I used was a Marineland Bio-wheel, and it was awful!!! I cleaned my tank today and was shocked by how dirty it was!!!! I vacuumed out 15 gallons of water and couldn’t even see my fish it was so dirty. After I set up this Tetra filter and replaced that water, it primed itself immediately, and my tank was crystal clear in 7 minutes!!!! After replacing the plants and ornaments, I stirred up more sludge. This “bad-boy” of a filter cleaned it up within 60 seconds! I’m looking forward to a long, stress-free, and easier experience with my tank for the foreseeable future. I might buy another one to have as a backup in case this one ever dies. Lol P.S. It is kinda loud but not too bad. I’m going to shim it a little bit. That seems to help a lot with noise. ... show more

    • Works good til power goes out

I've purchased 2 of these filters and both have had same issue. Only lasts about 6-8 months. Each time the house power goes out the filter stops and will not restart when power is restored. I have to go in and manually restart the propeller to get it going again. After that happens a couple times, I can't get it to restart no matter what I try. I bought this to use with a 55 gallon tank and it functions exactly as it should. However, it's pretty loud. I was going to set this up in my bedroom and I'm glad I didn't. I don't think I would be able to sleep. It's not obnoxiously loud, just louder then I think it should be.
