The good; If you are doing something quick... cloning a drive to SSD, or recovering data from a dead laptop... this is your tool. If you have a few old HDDs laying around buy a few of these for external drives, that said these are not so great for SSD long term as they do not pass the TRIM command through. 'Crystal Disk Info' is able to see the SMART information so you can diagnose that as well. The Bad; A little fiddly to install a drive 'perfectly'.. there is a small cushion they provide to hold your drive still and getting that in place for long term usage can be troublesome.. ..it can be stuck to the drive however i do not want to do this and waste the one cushion i have.. Sometimes when first plugged in to USB the drive wont come to life.... the fix for this is simply to leave the cable plugged into the computer and unplug then re-plug to the enclosure... this has worked every time this bug has come up... a little irritating but, it works, and once plugged in, the machine can be put into standby or turned off and the drive will come back... ... show more

Easy to use and worked perfectly. Fast read and write speeds. For the price it does what it's supposed to. You could quickly load different hard drives into the case to get file transfers done as fast as possible.

Got this because I harvested a ton of old HDD's and needed an easy way to verify that they worked. Ended up using it as long term external storage for a modded Wii U I have. Definitely a great bang for your buck.

This particular enclosure seems to be a little heavier construction than others. I tested in USB 2,3,3.1, and 3.2 and got satisfactory results. It's a great value.

    • Great value and works well
I bought two of these for my little Kingston SSD's. At the low price point of $7.69, I figured I couldn't go wrong. Upon receipt, I slid the cover open, popped an SSD in and plugged it in, mapped the new drive, and voila - easy storage. This little external housing has a cool blue LED light in it that lets you know your drive is running, and I didn't even read enough of the product description prior to purchase to know that feature was included. A definite plus. The plug and play nature, the LED indicator, the cool clear case, and the low low price point definitely earn this handy little item five stars from me.     • Works well, but comes without instructions and had to be replaced.
WARNING: some old 2½" drives draw more power than a USB port is designed to deliver. Using a drive that pulls more than 0.50 A (500 mA) with the included type of cable could fry a USB port on your computer. Remove the plastic wrapper; slide the top away from the USB 3 socket end; slide the power/data plug end of a working hard drive all the way into the socket end; slide the top back on; and using the included cable, attach it to an active USB 2 computer port. If nothing happens, try another cable of the same configuration or exchange the device. ... show more
