So far so good. My little guys are red ear sliders and since putting it in the tank, they can't stay away. They even sleep in the corner by it. I have a thermometer and the water is always between 75 and 80 degrees like promised. Now let's see how long this will last. Also, I saw in some reviews issues with the red light. The ref light only comes on when the temperature drops and heats up the tank, goes off once it's warm enough. If it's not on often, I deem it as good. This meaning your little guys are always warm; just a little FYI. I recommend! ... show more

  • A TURTLE FAVORITE
Recently, my heater for my turtle gave it's last heat so I had to purchase a new one. I was very pleased that I found it on Amazon as I searched high and low at various retail stores in my area and they no longer sell this particular heater. We love this heater. It has two suction cups to keep in secure and unlike other suction cups, they stay flexible. With proper maintenance this heater lasts quite some time. We have had our turtle for 10 years and this is second heater we have had to purchase. We only use it during the winter months and when the first one quit working it wasn't quite time for us to remove it, so the turtle was very sad. She was so happy when this came in. She must have rested on it for several hours after we installed it. Overall, this is a well made and efficient heater for use in our tank and we are very pleased with it (especially the turtle). All of my product reviews are based on my own or my families’ personal experiences and are honest and fair. I appreciate you taking the time to read my review and please select the appropriate button if you found this review helpful or not and leave any comments which may help me write a better review for consumers such as yourself. ... show more

  • The little guy loves it!
Our yellow bellied slider loves it! He is staying in his water longer and now ignoring his rock and heat lamp. I caught him clinging to it this morning... it is keeping our 10 gallon tank with about 3.5 inches of water around 79 degrees right next to the heater, to 77 degrees on the other side of the tank about 18 inches away. It seems to work pretty consistently, we have been spot checking the temp with a laser remote thermometer, he seems quite comfortable and more active and spending more time in the water instead of basking under the heat lamp most of the day. ... show more

  • Great heaters. Tonks and Diggory love them!!!
These heaters are perfect for my 2 sliders. I have 3 of these heaters in my 125 gallon indoor pond that they call home. It keeps the water at a constant comfortable temp. The outer plastic cover is nice because my female likes to lay on top of it. These heaters have been in my tank for 3 years. I just noticed one doesn't seem to be working (I haven't seen the red light) so I am replacing but after 3 years I have no complaints. The price is great also. ... show more

  • Does the job right!
Works great! Keeps the temp right were it should be! And it's not to hot for the turtles to burn themselves (see picture) great buy! And as always great price on Amazon!

  • Does not work. UPDATE It was just a lemon
This product does not work. I installed it according to instructions and waited the correct amount of time before turning it on and it just doesn't work at all. I have this for a hatchling YBS 10 gallon tank. Cannot figure out how to contact the seller either. UPDATE: Turns out I was looking for a contact for Tetra when Amazon was the seller. My bad! Any way I initiated a return and they sent me a replacement that works perfectly. It arrived in 2 days and I can drop off the defective one within about 3 weeks at a UPS without even printing a label so I don't even have to deal with refunds for postage or anything. It took about 5 seconds to handle once I realized I was being an idiot. Works great, automatically set to 78 F which is perfect for my baby slider and I have a temp gun to check. So far as soon as the red indicator light comes on I check it and it is right on 77F, and then the indicator light turns off when the temp hits 79 so that is a nice tight little range. I love it. So does my baby. He's so small that he wedges himself between the cord and the side of the tank and passes out like a toddler. In case anyone was concerned, the red indicator light can be easily seen in daytime light but is not a nuisance in the dark. The cord is a nice length and very sturdy and the suction cups are large and powerful. The nice plastic casing around the heater will keep my hatchling from chomping on it when he gets bigger. You literally just tick it in the tank, fill her up, wait 15 min, plug in and you are done. 10/10 recommend, I just happened to get a lemon the first time. ... show more

  • My turtles love it
It got cold during the winter and my red eared sliders were not eating anymore. I read that it is because the water is too cold so I bought this, and it makes a substantial difference. My turtles are happily swimming around now and devouring all the food I give them. The water is much warmer than without (I don't have a thermometer so I don't know quite how cold it was before) and I'll assume it's at a good temperature for my turtles. It occasionally lights up red to let you know it's heating the water. My turtles huddle around it often. This was a great buy, and one of the cheapest heaters available on Amazon. ... show more

  • Safe for my turtle
Nice size but not tiny. Fits in front of my Jack superstore waterfall filter perfectly and out of the way. My turtle absolutely loves it. He is in a 20 gallon aquarium half filled and went into partial hibernation because the heat lamp was all he had to regulate his body temperature. Now he is active and eating! I am pleased. I read somewhere that there is less risk of overheating if you get a lower wattage heater. (Maybe you need 2 if your tank is filled all the way up.) ... show more
