I bought this racket to replace a cheapo starter racket and while I'm not good enough yet to be able to say how much the racket impacts my performance, I can say that it is a much more pleasant experience to play using this racket than my starter one. The grip feels more solid in my hand, less prone to twisting or slipping. The surface has more texture to make the few times I want to add spin to the ball more successful, and the sound of the ball returning off the paddle is much more satisfying than the knock of a ball on plywood (presumably) like I had before. I think this is a solid step up paddle for a beginner who didn't want to spend a lot until they knew they'd like the sport but now wants to play with more "real" gear while still not going nuts to get a $200 paddle.
