  • Just The Escape I Needed
I really needed to do some traveling during the quarantine. Going to Happy Trails Campground in Normal, Kentucky was just the ticket to lift my blues. I love this series by Tonya Kappes. It’s set in the Daniel Boone Forest which is a place I have loved since childhood. Mae, Dottie, Hank and the rest are just like being around family. Dottie has an interesting role in this book. I really like her so it was good, but scary, to see her get a bigger role this book. The mystery was really good. I was second guessing just about everybody! She had me so wound up, I almost thought it was Mae. Haha. I’m just kidding you there. We all know Mae is the nosy gal who knows just how to get the gossip. Y’all know I’m not going to tell you about the mystery either. So just get your copy, a snack and a drink, then go camping. This series is tremendous fun! If you are just starting it, I would strongly suggest starting at the beginning with book one. You can enjoy this as a stand-alone but, no lie, you will miss a lot of the background. Ms Kappes does a great job catching you up without boring the rest of us, but you know it’s the little things you miss. I received an uncorrected ecopy for review consideration. I reviewed it voluntarily and based my review on my thoughts and feelings. I also purchased the book upon release. ... show more

  • Never liked that guy anyway
I didn't see him doing this. He's a snake, terrible person. He really didn't seem to be that much of a psycho. The story was nice I love Mary Elizabeth & Mae&Dottie.

  • Best in series so far
I loved the collaboration between Mae and Hank and Hank’s voice in describing the case details. This is best in series that I’ve read so far, though the wrap up at the end felt a little abrupt.

  • Loved It!
I love all of the books in the Camping and Criminal Series!! This one was no exception! Tonya Kappes writes the way she talks and I love it!! She is the BEST storyteller and her books will keep you interested from the first page! In this latest installment of the series, a young woman, Yaley, is found dead. Her body is in the trash bin at Happy Trails Campground and owner Mae West is beside herself, not only because a young woman was found dead on her property, but because the camping season is getting ready to start back up and she is worried about all her guests cancelling on her. Mae goes back to sleuthing and trying to find out what she can to help her boyfriend Hank, the local detective , solve the case. In the meantime, she is worried about Dottie when Dottie ends up in the hospital. There are many suspects in the murder case, but the person who actually did it is someone Mae knows very well. I highly recommend this book! ... show more

  • Dead body
Mae and Dottie both smell something that is stinking up the campground. Mae finally goes looking for a dead animal but finds a body, she call Hank. It's the girl, Yaley who has been missing for the last two days. They find out that Yaley was last seen getting into Joel's beat up truck. Hank has to arrest Joel. Mae doesn't believe that Joel did it and plans to prove it. The Laundry Club girls gather together to start the investigation into her death and clear Joel. Really good story and characters. ... show more

  • Great read!
This is the 11th book in a cozy mystery series that always gives you a few chuckles along with a great mystery. The characters and the setting of Normal, Kentucky are anything but normal. This time a tour guide is missing and ends up dead in Mae’s Happy Trails campground garbage container. So Mae and the Laundry Club ladies spring into action doing what they do best, building a list of suspects and listening to town gossip. And Dottie has a few medical issues while this is all all going on. I really enjoy immersing myself in this crazy world for a short time. Now back to reality until I open up the next one. You try them too! ... show more

  • Tipping point to implausible
Ok, but this one has started the tipping point for this series. The main character, Mae West, was already becoming OTT (really, she's gone from helping the economy of Normal to completely taking sole credit for saving the town) and in this one, she tipped it. I may read future books in the series if they are free/cheap and I'm super bored, but imagine a lot of skipped pages. 1: Have read the whole series so far and wonder if the author outsourced, didn't proof, or has too many other cozy series to track. One of the dogs that is in all the books suddenly has a different name, a character goes from two siblings to one, spelling of another characters name has changed, even the type of camper for the main character is different, and so on. 2: You expect to suspend belief with most of these cozies, but for me, the tipping point is when the main character starts believing they are the "real" detective and start hiding evidence so they can "break the case," conducting interviews by implying they are official reps, breaking into homes/offices/morgues to snoop, screaming accusations at people they have (usually wrongly) determined is the killer, etc. This was the book in the series that finally hit that point for me. ... show more
