Description

1 Amazon, New York Times & USA Today bestselling series! A death in Sin City mixes high stakes with high fashion... L.A. shoe designer Maddie Springer hasn't seen her father since he reportedly ran off to Las Vegas with a showgirl named Lola. So she's shocked when he leaves a desperate plea for help on her answering machine—ending in a loud bang. Gunshot? Car backfire? Never one to leave her curiosity unsatisfied, Maddie straps on her stilettos and, along with her trigger-happy best friend, makes tracks for Sin City in search of her MIA dad. Maddie hits the jackpot, all right. She finds not only her dad, but also a handful of aging drag queens, an organized crime ring smuggling fake Prada pumps, and one relentless killer. Plus, it seems the LAPD's sexiest cop is doing a little Vegas moonlighting of his own. In a town where odds are everything, Maddie bets it all on her ability to out-step a murderer. She just hopes her gamble pays off...before her own luck runs out. Rating: This story does not contain any graphic violence, language, or sexual encounters. Its rating would be similar to PG-13 or what you would find on a Hallmark Channel movie or TV series. "Ms. Halliday is the undisputed queen of the genre." ~ Fresh Fiction "This amusing whodunit scores big. Maddie’s winning return, with her bold comical voice and knack for thinking fast on her strappy slingbacks, will elicit cheers." ~ Publishers’ Weekly "Blending romance and humor, Maddie and her madcap friends are an enjoyable treat." ~ Parkersburg Sentinel "This is a first-rate, humorous mystery and one you can’t help but grin and giggle all the way through." ~ Romance Reader at Heart Read more

  • Magnificent Maddie is back!
This is the second book in the "High Heels" series and despite a far-fetched storyline, it's an enjoyable read and one of my favorite Gemma Hallidays. I enjoy the witty, humorous style, the romantic storyline as well as a plot full of twists and turns, and despite some of the rather improbable situations that befall our intrepid heroine, the plot line has plenty of twists and turns and keeps you wondering. I find it easy to overlook the improbable because overall, the book is otherwise so well-written. I also have to say that as crazy as Maddie is, and despite the fact that she gets herself into ridiculous scrapes of her own making, she is a sweet and likeable heroine and I enjoy all of the return characters, Marco especially. If you can overlook some of the less realistic parts of the storyline, it's a very fun read. Just don't take it too seriously (after all, it's not meant to be a police procedural) and enjoy the humor. ... show more

  • Fun Reading
I actually enjoy reading fun stories from time to time and this series has really interesting characters that you fall in love with. It is an easy read that I recommend for taking on vacation with you or anytime that you just want to relax with light, FUN reading. I started with the first (free kindle) story and have nearly read through the entire series at this point. I will be very sad when I reach the end and will most likely check out her other series to see if they are just as fun to read. ... show more

  • It’s a great series
I already bought the end, but I’m going back to get book 3 I don’t like to skip. I like to go in order but I’d love her story. It’s a little different from the FBI stories that I read and 1800 that I read but I love it. Thank you. Keep it up. Those heels are working.

  • Also cute but cheesy
I'm not really the romance and/or mystery novel type, but these books were engaging. Unfortunately, the "who did it" was predictable. If you're looking for a fast, easy, and somewhat funny read, then these books are a good choice. The romance is PG, so they're a better choice for the pre-teen as well. ... show more

  • Very entertaining cozy mystery
This is the 2nd book in this cozy mystery series. I love the varied, interesting, fun characters, and the mystery and action from start to finish. I really enjoy the way the book is written. Very entertaining!

  • Just One Part of an Awesome Series!
Realistic, light suspense, with humor, romance, and relationship issues thrown in. Just enough "steaminess" to get your heart pitter-pattering, without graphic wording. Downloaded the first book as a freebie and got hooked! On the fourth book in the series now and the quality hasn't wavered. These are great books at reasonable prices, which seems to be unusual for quality electronic books. (Never have understood why electronic versions should be as expensive as hard copies. Hello!! Aren't we saving trees, ink, shipping, etc.? Apologies for the rant...) Love these books and love the prices...they are also lendable, which is a plus. Keep 'em coming Gemma! ... show more

  • What Happens in Vegas
I've never been to Vegas. All I know about Vegas is what I've seen in movies, and I think Gemma Halliday did a great job of setting up this place I've never been. Maddie Springer just can't seem to stay out of trouble. As soon as she solved the mystery from the last story, she gets a phone call from her estranged father, only to have him hang up before she can get any information. With the help of her friends, Dana and Marco, Maddie heads to Vegas to find the man she hadn't seen since she was a child, but things are not as she remembered, and Hot Cop, Jack Ramirez, on her trail. Maddie has no problems getting herself into trouble, despite trying to keep out of it once she gets there (Marco and Dana are terrible influences), luckily she has Jack who always manages to bail her out. I did feel that Jack got REALLY condescending and chauvinistic in this installment. Now that he knows Maddy better, he's still acting like she's a little weak woman. Felix was a fun addition, and I love the banter he shares with Maddie, and it was nice to uncover a bit more of Maddie's past by finding her father.
