  • Sweet Ukulele - great for a beginner or frugal intermediate player.
Color: 26" tenor
The Tenor Ukulele (EUT-X1) is very nice and seems to be easier to play than the soprano that I bought in a different brand. It is a nice size instrument and comes with a nice bag to carry and store it in. The headstock is a bit thick making it harder to clip the tuner on to it. However, this makes the uke a bit more sturdy - so it is a minor complaint. The included tuner is nice and will also work with a guitar a violin or a baritone ukulele (and maybe something else I am not remembering.) The strap is also a nice addition. The less than perfect: 1.The picks included are plastic not felt picks. Felt picks are the true and proper ukulele picks. A rubber pick will also work well. 2. The capo that is included is a very cheap plastic device. After the first use, the spring fell out of it. These two items should probably be replaced in the package by the manufacturer. But don't let that discourage you from buying this ukulele. They are the only reason I didn't give this five stars. I have been playing this ukulele for about three weeks and I am impressed with the instrument. I was hesitant about buying an instrument made in China. However, a ukulele teacher gave it high reviews. So I took a chance. I am very glad that I did. This ukulele makes me *want* to keep playing. The sound is sweet even with the included strings. I did buy two other brands of strings based on the other reviews, but I have not felt the need to change from the strings that came on it. The tuner has worked flawlessly also. The gig bag is nicely padded and has a nice pouch on the front for extra strings - and other things you may want to carry with you. The strap is a nice addition as the ukulele has strap pegs installed from the factory. The finger shaker works, but I have only tried it out - not really played while using it. Overall, this is a great package. (even with the poor capo and plastic picks.) Buy it for the ukulele, tuner and bag - it is well worth the price. Edit - Update: I changed the rating to five stars. Enya sent me a replacement Capo that is all metal and works beautifully. As for the picks - don't worry about those. The ukulele is best played by picking with your finger(s) and thumb. ... show more

  • Nice Ukulele at a Great Price
I have had this ukulele for about a week. It is holding tune well at this point. I have many ukuleles of different levels of price and quality, and have to say that this one seems like a bargain compared to others in the same price range. First, it seems very well made and finished. The neck has a nice satin finish, and the fretboard is nicely beveled on the edges, and the fret ends are nicely dressed. Amazingly for a ukulele at this price, the fretboard is radiused (slightly curved from side to side, which makes playing barre chords easier). It is hard to find this feature in any ukulele less than the $500. range. The tuners work well. It comes with upper and lower strap buttons installed. As noted in the description, it is made of HPL (high pressure laminate; basically a Formica-like material). As Barry Maz noted, Martin makes ukuleles (and guitars) out of it. The fretboard is made of Richlite, which is also used by Blackbird Guitars on their ukuleles and guitars. The sound is nice and rich, and is honestly much better than other ukuleles at this price point. Does it have the beauty and sound of a KoAloha or Kanile'a instrument made in Hawaii of solid koa (at nearly 10 times the price)? No. But it is nice to play, sounds nice, and should be less of a concern with temperature and weather changes than a solid wood ukulele. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend giving one a try. I do not work for Enya, and was not compensated in any way for this review. I am just pleased with my purchase. ... show more

  • This is my new tiny baratone
Color: 26" tenor
I own 4 Enya ukuleles now. This is my first tenor. I purchased this with the idea of bringing it to youth group (it can be wiped down after the chip eating kids play it) and in general running around with it. The setup at the nut was perfect string height. I prefer a little lower string height than it was at the 12th fret. I was prepared to sand the saddle, but was pleasantly surprised to find a shim under the saddle. I took that out and the string height is now perfect for my own playing style. Also, the edges on the uke are very slightly rounded. This really makes a big difference in playing comfort. Trust me, an instrument with 90 degree angles can be uncomfortable to play for any length of time. This instrument came with "advanced fluorocarbon" strings. (From the Amazon website description). The strings have a slight purple coloring along with being clear and stiff. I have tried these strings before, on 2 other ukes. (D'Addario Titanium). I found that I lost sustain and volume both times that I tried them. No wonder this uke was quiet and had very little sustain. I own the concert size HPL from Enya, it has the standard softer fluorocarbon strings from Enya and it has plenty of sustain along with being louder and more 3 dimensional than this tenor when it arrived. I did tune it up and make sure that everything functions and that it's intonation was perfect, which it was. (I am starting to depend on Enya products to have perfect pitch all the way down the fret board!) I chose to change out the strings to a very different set. The Pepe Romero Baby Baritone strings. (Purchased from Strings by mail. Amazon doesn't sell these.) I had tried these on 2 different tenors, but it wasn't a fit for either one. These strings seems to do better on a super tenor or bigger bodied tenor. I provided pictures of this tenor side by side to an Islander MT and a Rockjam tenor. The Enya tenor HPL is longer and wider than the other 2 but slimmer. This works out really well. This is a perfect fit for these strings. The tone is well balanced bewteen highs and lows. Plenty of sustain, more volume as well. I was a little concerned that my intonation might be off because the compensated saddle is meant for GCEA, but there was no need to worry, the uke is still perfect in pitch. I can play a regular Baritone uke and I own one, but my preference is the tenor and concert size ukes. This gives me my Baritone fix in my preferred size range. I know that strings and tone are all very personal preference. The stiffer strings are good for a very different playing style than my own. I am an older lady that enjoys singing and playing hymns and worship music along with some classical finger picking. ... show more
