  • Good wireless access point, but a little pricey
The Tenda WiFi 6 AX3000 Outdoor Access Point is a fairly typical device for extending the range of coverage for home WiFi. It can be powered two ways - directly from a DC adapter (wall wart) or from Power over Ethernet (PoE) via the included power injector. I chose to use PoE since I am installing this in my attic and do not have a power outlet located there. Installation wasn't difficult - but I was reminded of an important lesson: check your cabling! I struggled for about an hour during installation with getting the device configured, connecting to the WiFi and not being able to reach the Internet. I was about ready to throw in the towel and contact the manufacturer when I decided that I should check my cabling. Sure enough, I had a pin on one connector that did not pierce the wire correctly. After replacing the connector, I was up and running in no time. I should note that I was very pleased that I did not have to use an app to configure the access point. I preferred to just use the web interface to the device to get it configured. The WiFi speed I saw when testing the access point were consistent with other access points I have in my home. The range of the access point is quite good - it should provide me with the outdoor coverage I need to stay connected to Sirius XM through my phone when I'm cutting the grass. Overall, I am pleased with this access point - but it is my feeling that it is a little bit overpriced for what it is. ... show more

  • Cool features but lacking self hosting options
This Tenda Wi-Fi 6 Access point has a wide variety of configuration options but unfortunately there is a lot of vendor lock in. I have an existing Tenda residential/home router that includes the Tenda mesh option. I was disappointed to learn this Tenda AP does not support the Tenda mesh. Rather, it needs to be managed by either a physical Tenda AP controller or using their cloud AP service. Unlike many other vendors that offer a self hosting solution, Tenda does not. The AP is configurable via its embedded web interface. The web interface has a lot of features and I was able to use this as additional AP, just not with Tenda mesh. One annoying thing is the LED will continue to flash white until the device is managed by one of the AP controller options mentioned above. I decided to setup an account for the Cloud Wi-Fi management to compare the features offered using that versus the web interface. It also provided a lot of options and once the AP was associated to my online account, the blinking white LED transitioned to a solid blue which represents normal operation. I tested the speed through this AP and it was not consistent, especially compared to the Wi-Fi directly on my Tenda router. The Tenda router speed tests results were much better than those using the Tenda AP. The box contains the AP, a power supply and a LAN/PoE adapter. The device it self only has one connector, an RJ45 so you need to use the LAN/PoE adapter even if you are not using PoE. I also tested the PoE option and it worked with my PoE switch without any issues. ... show more

  • Solid outdoor WiFi 6 AP that reaches the backyard without the usual headaches
I put the Tenda OAP3000 up on a pole to kill the dead zones in my yard and garage. The housing feels solid and properly sealed—IP65 rating held up fine through rain and heat—and the external high-gain antennas screw on without fuss. Setup through the CloudFi app and the included PoE injector was quick enough once the cable was run, and real-world range is respectable: usable 5 GHz signal well past 100 feet with clear line of sight, which is exactly what I needed. Speeds aren’t mind-blowing under load, but for the roughly $140 price it delivers more outdoor coverage than most consumer mesh satellites I’ve tried.Reliable long-range outdoor coverage for the money. Best for homeowners or small properties that just need solid backyard, garage, or light commercial Wi-Fi without complicated management. Skip it if you want a more polished multi-AP ecosystem or top-tier speeds in crowded RF environments. ... show more

  • needs your own cords
I was pleasantly surprised by how easy this WiFi 6 AX3000 Outdoor Access Point was to get up and running. The setup process was straightforward, and I appreciated that I didn't have to download a separate app just to configure it. Once installed, it provided a stable, reliable connection and performed exactly as expected. The build quality feels solid, and it seems designed to handle demanding environments. With its strong coverage, I could easily see this being a great option for a warehouse, large workshop, outdoor property, or other areas where you need to extend wireless coverage over a larger space. It delivered consistent performance throughout my testing. Overall, this is a well-built access point that works well and is easy to install. The biggest pros are the quality construction, speed, good streaming, reliable performance, and simple setup without requiring an app. The cons are does not come with cords and the pricetag value....it feels a bit pricey for what you get, especially if you only need coverage for a typical home. For larger spaces, though, it could be a worthwhile investment. ... show more

  • Not many configuration options
I was hopeful this AX3000 outdoor access point would offer more flexibility, but it is fairly limited. You can use it in either AP mode or bridge mode, with no real routing or advanced networking options. I had hoped to use it to connect to my neighbor's Wi-Fi as a secondary WAN connection for failover, but that isn't really an option with this device. I also mounted it closer to the target area than my existing setup, yet it didn't provide nearly the same signal strength as my indoor router performing the same job. The lack of VLAN support is another significant limitation for my use case, since I run multiple SSIDs on my home network. This may work reasonably well if you have a simple setup and just need basic outdoor Wi-Fi coverage. For a homelab or more advanced network requiring VLANs, multiple SSIDs, or flexible wireless bridging, I'd look elsewhere. ... show more

  • Strong outdoor Wi‑Fi option with flexible power choices
The Tenda OAP3000 combines dual-band Wi‑Fi 6, gigabit connectivity, MU‑MIMO, and long-range coverage in an IP65-rated enclosure suited to patios, yards, and business outdoor areas. Support for both PoE and DC power offers useful installation flexibility, particularly where a nearby electrical outlet is unavailable. Actual speed and range will depend on placement, obstructions, client devices, and the wired network feeding the access point. Seamless roaming may also require compatible network equipment and proper configuration. Before installation, confirm the required PoE standard or injector compatibility, and note that IP65 protects against dust and water jets but not submersion. Overall, it is a capable choice for extending Wi‑Fi coverage beyond the reach of an indoor router. ... show more
