  • Easy To Hook Up! Best Thing I Ever Bought!
Style: UniFi Dream Machine
My xfinity Router WiFi advertised it could handle over One Hundred Devices! I constantly lost my Sonos, Ring and Computer Connections! This WiFi Router worked seamlessly during the switch over! The Best Purchase I ever made! It’s handling everything we throw out it. Great Router. I did use Chat GPT to find it, and Chat GPT helped me with the switch over! Super Easy! The Xfinity Wi-Fi router said it could handle over 100 devices, which is a flat out lie after 10 days the Xfinity router would start dumping everything. I had my cameras, my Sonos, music or phones it was getting ridiculous. I made the Xfinity router a bridge and hooked it into a dream machine. What a difference nothing is popping out were popping off the Wi-Fi. It’s great.!! ... show more

  • A reliable local network right out of the box
Style: UniFi Dream Machine
I will update this review if there are problems later on... I bought this router after being disenchanted with a series of consumer-grade wireless routers. They all worked fine - for the first several months. I last used a Netgear 6400v2 and have an attached USB-3 drive which I used for backups of my computers and to store media files for my Plex server. Then, like all it's predecessors, it started disconnecting from the internet and not even letting me log in to the router. The attached drive became unreachable at times. These problems were separate and unpredictable. I got sick of my wife calling me to tell me that there was no internet. Ubiquiti makes enterprise-grade networking devices. They have really just entered the consumer (or "prosumer") market with the Dream Machine. I had high hopes for this and have been really happy with the setup and deployment so far. The wireless access point is strong enough to not need any satellite access points in my house. All my devices are getting strong wireless signals. I converted my old router to a switch, and now use it just to connect the network drive to the LAN. It seems to be up for that task so far - saving me the expense of a NAS device. The configuration controller program is very flexible and secure. You can turn on 2-factor authentication (via Google authenticator on your phone) which will lock out anyone trying to access the network controller even if they know the password. It works fine in it's default setting, but allows you to make many customizations including combining the 2.4 and 5 Ghz wireless networks into a single SSID. This allows new and old wireless clients to talk on the same network. At Ubiquiti's advice, I bought a good power conditioner to protect my networking equipment from voltage irregularities (Furman PST-8D) , and also lightning shielded the lot of it with L-Com grounded surge protectors. Edit June 27, 2020: It's still all good. ZERO down time. I have never needed to reset it. It maintains consistent connections with wired and wireless clients. Easy to assign fixed IP addresses and port forwarding. This thing is like a toaster - it just does what it is supposed to do without needing any hand-holding. Don't hesitate to buy it. ... show more

  • Lives up to its name
Style: UniFi Dream Machine
I have been battling wifi issues for years, with my old wrt1900acs, it was good but never great. As more and more were added the router seemed to choke, and every device would be connected but not able to access the internet. I bought and returned 2 other wireless systems that failed to perform before the Dream Machine. The first was a $450 netgear orbi mesh system that promised huge coverage and high speeds, it did neither the second was a newer Linksys that somehow had worse range than the old wrt I had. After reading reviews online saying the UDM was the ultimate and overkill for home users I figured it was worth a try, and simply put I have great speeds and coverage that is well beyond anything I have had before. I have always had a bit of a bias against routers that do not have external antennas and expected this one to be a letdown for coverage when the two previous Linksys devices had huge antennas and couldnt get the job done. I was way off. The UDM went well above and beyond my expectations. It is overkill for a home environment unless you really like seeing absolutely everything that is going on, what devices are doing the most, and what they are connecting to, it gives a deep dive. However, its setup is simpler than what I had to deal with on either the new Netgear or Linksys routers I tried. After that it is up to you how much you want to dig in. In the age of covid with people and kids at home all the time using internet for work, school, data caps, ect. this router is a very handy tool in managing a home network. In the 3 weeks I have been using it, it has continually surprised me on how well it performs, and new features I have found. ... show more

  • Perhaps the best router I’ve ever owned Perhaps the best router I’ve ever owned
Style: UniFi Dream Machine
I debated for a long time before buying this router. I have plenty of other ubiquiti equipment so I know how well it works. Let me tell you I wish I had bought it sooner. Features like content filters and ssid scheduling appeased my wife’s desire to keep our kids off the internet during certain hours. The only real complaint I had was rectified in the most recent firmware. No longer do you need to do hacky cli level commands to make something like express vpn work. Now you just add the config in the UI and boom your whole network gets the benefits of vpn. Since I have a number of other ubiquiti ap’s I don’t broadcast my main ssids from the router but do broadcast the guest Wi-Fi one. All my kid’s friends are like wow your Wi-Fi is super easy to get on and fast. I wish our house was like that. Any of the testing that I’ve done on the guest network would indicate that the router broadcast of Wi-Fi is more than sufficient. ... show more

  • Frustrating start, happy now
Style: UniFi Dream Machine
Update: I'm glad I didn't give up, see below for the initial frustrations. But so far this router is 100% reliable, no other router I have had was able to do this. We have 50 devices on the network, and even 4 people streaming now works flawless. The signal strength isn't any better than what my 10 year old router had, but the bandwidth is much higher and actually gets delivered. You just have to scan the "neighborhood" for best channels a few times. I had 0 disconnects in the last two weeks, and no router reboots needed... that hasn't happened in many years! There are still features I'm missing, maybe they will be added. The setup and dashboard software are insanely powerful, you can spend hours looking on graphs. Old Review: I'm getting ready to send this $300 nightmare back. I was hoping this would be a pro-consumer upgrade to my 12 year old asus router, but so far everything is worse. Phone app setup failed. Interface/setup is unfinished with lots of beta/alpha tags. Basic things like a OpenVPN connection seem impossible. Signal strength is worse than what I have. Just can't find anything positive about it. ... show more

  • Awesome WIFI Router for the money
Style: UniFi Dream Machine
This router was an excellent purchase an update , I picked this up 6 months ago and waited for a few software cycles to post my review . I was planning to get a wifi 6 router but eventually settled for this . I wanted a segmented network which very few expensive routers provide . IOT definitely needs it's own network isolated from your main home network . Despite my house being wired nicely . I powered off my unifi POE switch and will power it on for future use . I have added a beacon which completes WIFI coverage to all the places in my house . Security features and other options on this device are great . Most of the plug and play options are simple enough to turn on and forget . You have options to tweak further but be ready to research and implement , lot of guides out there . The firmware initially was a little poor and had multiple issues . But with the newer versions of the firmware it keeps getting better . I would run this unit on a UPS which is recommended by the vendor . ... show more

  • Beautiful piece of machine not market ready and horrible support Beautiful piece of machine not market ready and horrible support
Style: UniFi Dream Machine
This is a beautiful machine with a great hardware and some amazing tools, but, I encounter some weird behaviors that I couldn't put my finger on it, and, support was non existence when things got complicated. A little about myself, I have over 10 years of experience on IT with knowledge on networking being close to an intermediate level. What I really loved about the UDM: - The way it looks, it just look great. This white pill with a blue halo light on top, it can go anywhere in your house/small business. - Phone App is great, you can adjust almost everything, run test, view your dashboard and get all sort of info. I wish the halo light could have some sort of timer, right now is either on or off. There is not a brightness option either. - Extra little toys like Deep Package Inspections among others, VPN, Gateway. How easy is to create pther networks that communicate between each other, AI assistance on WIFI. I spend hours playing with this. Issues that I had: - UDM was almost centered at my home (location) but coverage seemed not good, had more dead spaces compared to my old one. - Speeds varied per minute, I have giga service at my house. The UDM was getting from the company router the speed pay for, but, the speed from the UDM to my hardware varied a lot, sometime unstable. Been 15-20 feet away from the UDM and the speeds would go down by more than half than been 8-11 feets (same room no walls in between (Living room/Ktchen)). - Downloading something around 50GB - game in steam (pics) - would get the UDM into extreme high gears, fan will go to high speeds (could be heard upstairs) and internet will drop for some machines (pics attached). This never happened with my old router. - UDM would dropped connection or go into high processing year (which caused internet out) - TCP errors all the time I didn't want to return this device since I liked a lot. Opened a case with support to troubleshoot this 2 points: - Why speeds variate so much in such small amount of time, and, short distance (moving from the couch to the kitchen table your speed will dropped to half the speed that you get in the couch). - Internet dropping off and machine going into high gears upon downloading something quote big. I did everything that support asked from me, provided reports from the UDM, configuration of my router (from the internet company), factory reset the UDM, deleted and updated the drivers on my equipment. at the end, they were ready to declare my equipment at fault. Questions that tech support never answered: - Why would the speed lowered so much been in the same room but just a little far away? (drops were more than half) - UDM was getting close to giga speeds but computers were getting less than half speed being 8 feet away from UDM. - Suddenly high processing moments, this machine suppose to handle a great volume of machines and i have like 10 to 12 maybe (including phones, printers and streaming devices) I returned because tech support just gave up and the device is subpar, and, when compared to my almost 3 year old router that is more consistent, spending $300 for this is not worth it. I tried to see if tech support would fix it or at least replace it, but no. ... show more

  • Extremely good
Style: UniFi Dream Machine
I've been using this as a residential router with three Ubiquiti APs for the past one year. From the moment I plugged it in it has been perfect and rock-solid. It takes a while to learn all the options and settings, but once you have it configured the way you want it you don't have to pay attention to it. Throughput, stability, great features, intuitive UI, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a home or small office router in the Ubiquiti ecosystem. I'm not sure what's going on with some of the bad reviews I see on Amazon, that has definitely not been my experience. If you're an IT professional and complaining that this device doesn't have all the bells and whistles, you're right and you purchased the wrong router. This is a prosumer device intended for IT hobbyists and enthusiasts. If you demand that your networking product do everything, and that the software be perfect from the first release, you should be prepared to spend much more money. The folks buying this product will be using it for work-from-home, Zoom calls, streaming, and maybe a few custom settings for their LAN. ... show more
