I’m using this product in two different ways and both works great: 1) water filter: I put it in a half filled 60 gallon tank as a filter for my turtle. It is SO QUIET. And the water is so clean! I’ve used it for about a month and don’t have any issues. 2) water pump for water change: I bought a tube that fits the mouth of the filter, and throw the filter to the bottom of the tank to pump water through the tube out of the tank and straight into the sink; and for putting water back, I essentially just reverse it. This save SO MUCH effort and time! Love it ... show more

This filter is very powerful. It has the ability to add oxygen to the tank quickly along with being a good wave maker as well, depending on where you place it in the tank. For a large aquarium its an average size filter, just long. You can place it vertical or horizontal, whichever is best for you. The noise level is there. I've had aquariums for years from Cichlids to gold fish and many in between, along with many kinds of filters. There are some extremely quiet filters out these days but don't expect this filter to be one of them. This is the most powerful filter I have ever used and with power comes a noise. As for cleaning, it gets the tank chrystal clear. Changing the filter is very easy and full adjustable to the size of the tank by easily removing parts of the filter to fit size of any tank. PRO: The biggest advantage for me is having to no longer by bioballs, coal packets etc. That is the biggest expense owning an aquarium. It builds up over time. With this filter you just wash the sponges and you're good. You may even be able to add other filtration articles such as rocks or bioballs if you feel the need too. OVERALL: Best purchase I have ever made for an aquarium. Would purchase again for my next aquarium project. ... show more

I love that it’s a wave maker AND a sponge filter at an affordable price. You can also customize the filter media by removing some of the sponges and replacing with something else like ceramic balls. This filter is nice and strong and helps push the fish poo towards it making my bare bottom tank pleasant to look at in between water changes. My fish in the 55 gallon grow out tank have not minded the extra pull. Will definitely buy another when we upgrade their tank. ... show more

[Update] I hate this thing. It was decent at first but now it gets extremely loud after running for an hour or so. If I turn it off and let it sit then turn it on, it's very quiet again, but after an hour the loud noise and harmful vibrations return and I'm worried it will shake my tank apart. [Original] I was thrilled that they included actual measurements for all the bits because that's essential to my project, but it's not so helpful if they are wrong. Just in case it's essential to yours too: the barbed hose connector is closer to 0.6" (5/8") according to my calipers. It fits fine in a 5/8-inch hose but that won't connect to my 1/2-inch connectors for the other end. Luckily, I can just squeeze this into the 1/2" hose without obvious damage, so I think I'll just give my build a try with it. I just wish the people who make these listings would be more careful. I'm baffled at how often this happens, so it's hard to get too mad at the seller. Seriously though, people buy products based on dimensions and some of them require precision to fit together. Aside from that the product looks and feels decent. If you don't care about the inlet/outlet sizes it might be awesome. I will update my review after I've used it a bit. ... show more

This is a cool idea submersible filter. It's great. It works really good. It filtering water. There's no charcoal or any insert you have to buy it just does the job.

I have been using canister filters for years. Mainly because I would have large fish such as oscars. After my last oscar died I was going to give up on the tank because it was too much work. But the grandkids wanted me to get the tank going again. So I tried this filter. And I simply just love it. For the price that I have paid if it lasts me 6 months it's worth it. So much easier than a canister and cleaner as far as cleaning too. Highly would recommend for your tank if you have smaller fish. Really not sure if I would go this route if I had large oscars but I sure would try it once. I would recommend running two of these if your tank is 75 gallons. ... show more
