  • Good Universal Card Reader... Design Needs Some Tweaks...
This credit card, and general card reader by multiple methods by Symcode can be used is a multitude of ways and purposes. The reader is well-constructed with quality materials. This is a multi-function device that can read the magnetic stripe on cards, like those on the back of credit cards and certain ID badges. The device has a slot for physically reading memory chips embedded on cards, and even has the ability for the contactless features of NFC (no RFID). This reader works flawlessly with some POS software and hardware, without the need for additional software, patches, or special programming, just maybe a few settings. (**This next part is only to help demonstrate other ways to use this multi-function reader, and is in no way an endorsement of doing the same unless you have the appropriate knowledge.**) I have a workshop that for safety reasons has a door with a magnetic lock to prevent unauthorized entry. The mag-swipe and NFC reader on the door suddenly stopped working, and to get an exact replacement would have cost around $300. This reader was able to be plugged in using the same USB-C cable that was connected to the old one, some strong double-sided tape, and a few additional lines of code later, we had a working door again. The only real difference is now there's a cable sticking out of the side, and if anyone unplugs it, they will have to wait for the system to recognize the device again before they can swipe or use their chip. The only reason(s) why I removed a star is due to the incorrect manual that was included, and was all about a battery operated version of this reader, and the other was due to the placement NFC on/off switch. Why would the switch to turn this feature on and off be on the "front" of the device? Being placed there makes it super easy for customers and children, or even accidently to change the setting, and not on the "back" near where the data/power cable is. (*On a side note, they really couldn't make the URL just a tad bit more human friendly?!) My "true rating" (patent/trademark™️/copyright©️ pending🤣) is 7 out of 10. 🐻 *Statement/Disclaimer: This review is part of Amazon's Vine Program, which provides products at a reduced cost in exchange for sincere/frank reviews.
