Description

The USW-48-PoE is a configurable Gigabit Layer 2 switch with 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports including 32 auto-sensing 802.3at PoE+ ports, and 4 SFP ports. It provides Gigabit PoE links to your RJ45 Ethernet devices and Gigabit fiber uplink options to your enterprise network. The USW-48-PoE features a 1.3" touch LCM to provide status Managed and configured by the UniFi Network Controller with UniFi mobile app support, the USW-48-PoE offers an extensive suite of advanced Layer 2 switching protocols and features, including operation mode (switching, mirroring, or aggregate) per port. The UniFi Network Controller and mobile app allow admins to configure and monitor virtually all of the switch features in a graphical user interface from anywhere.

I received the switch several weeks after placing the order. When the box arrived, it was in optimal condition, but when I opened it, I was surprised to find that the device was very damaged. Because I needed to get the office network up and running, I decided to open it up to see what the inside was like, knowing I'd void my warranty. About 3 months out of warranty I discovered a bad port. POE was functioning but network was not. Disappointing in a product as pricey as this one. Tonight I went to add some SFP transceivers in part to compensate for the bad port and discovered one out of four of those is bad as well. I love Ubiquiti products--I've built my home network and security system out of them, and I've recommended and installed them for customers. But I'm finding their gear to be a bit fragile. For example, out of 13 cameras I've bought for my home, four of them have failed, two outside of warranty. (Three Dome G3 cameras and one Instant G4.) Last month my Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus bricked itself unrecoverably in the middle of the night, costing me several hours of futile recovery work. Ubiquiti replaced it for me, but of course can't compensate me for my time. My network has complete UPS protection, my house has full-home surge suppression and all outdoor cameras are mounted per Ubiquity's recommendation with grounded surge arrestors and shielded network cabling. Clients of mine are seeing similar problems with equipment longevity. My recommendation is if you buy Ubiquiti gear, be aware of warranty dates and check equipment (including all ports) before the warranty expires. Had I done this Ubiquiti would've replaced the switch at least. ... show more
