So here is my story with the Super Handy Stump grinder.... I have about 50 varying size stumps around my property and I wanted them gone... after consulting a stump guy I though i would rent but i would be forced to do them all as quickly as possible because I am cheap, here is where Super Handy comes in. I purchased the stump grinder and it arrived in a very timely manner, assembly was easy with the hand of a second person.... then i got to grinding, i got through about 25 stumps before my belt went out..... for those with belt issues, it is you not the machine, you are either pushing the machine to hard or your belt is not tight enough or to tight... went to tractor supply bought a HD 52"x1/2 belt and it is still going strong on stump 40.... one note i have been running mine with the belt guard off which could be dangerous but i did this to monitor the belt as i read a bunch of reviews stating it eats belt, again my thought on the belt failure is user error as I have not seen it to be a problem. I did notice that the belt runs much cooler with the belt guard off and perhaps that is why my belts are lasting so long. Know to the stump grinder itself... PLEASE UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE BUYING.... this is a homeowner grade stump grinder it is not a 10k commercial grinder... it is half the price of anything else out there and for that it is EXCELLENT but you will find its limits very quickly.... it does not rip through a stump throwing big chips, if you work with it it will go through just about any stump you have.... know i did find if the stump is hard wood and kinda petrified it will take you all day to get through it.... most of my stumps where 16" or less and the larger ones took me about and hour to get through.... this casts off chainsaw size chips but as you get use to using it with the right amount of pressure and moving it back and forth you can get it to eat up a stump pretty good. On about stump 30 I began to have a problem with the motor cutting out then coming back, I thought it was the air filter being clogged so i cleaned it and checked the oil (Note: the oil level is a pain to figure out as the stump grinder sits on a slight angle and there is a front and back oil fill) both air and oil being good i went back to grinding but found it bogging down and coming backup again so i began trouble shooting the safety's and found that the hand grip safety was failing (about 10-12 hrs of use at this time) I contacted Super Handy and explained the situation and no response for a few days BUT then i received an email with bunch of things to check (which I was WAY past) and i responded telling exactly what the problems was.... again multiple days passed and i was thinking that i was getting no where with them so i sent an email asking what they where going to do to make it right. A few days past again and I received an email apologizing for the delay in response and asking for info on the machine that i purchased (model and serial #).... at that point they explained that they would be sending out ALL of the parts that i would be needing to fix the grinder at no cost, AND I MEAN ALL OF THE PARTS.... they far exceeded my expectations on what they warrantied, know I will have to do the work to fix it but I am ok with this. Improvements that could be made is better teeth but i am not sure that it will have enough Horse Power to cut with a different tooth.... my plan is to purchase a better tooth when these get eaten up.... also perhaps a slightly larger tire Overall this is a great little unit and it will eat up moderate size stumps, i also used it to knock down some mounds of dirt on the sides of my back drive and to install a drain pipe.... it eats through dirt very well, it would work great for installing underground wire or installing the wire for a invisible dog fence collar system.... BUT understand what you are buying is a small Homeowner Grade stump grinder, you are not going into the stump grinding business with this.... Although i did make $50 grinding some small stumps for my neighbor ( So Maybe) additionally it does a great job on roots that are coming up above grade.... I am sure that others may have different views and or they may have a different outcome with the customer service, but i am overall very pleased with the customer service (although a little slow BUT they got it done for me) and the quality of this unit, it is worth every penny for me. If i had rented a stump grinder to do the work around my house, i would have spent $100's more in rental fees than this cost and i would have killed myself to get it done to reduce cost.... I am super happy with this Stump Grinder and if you are reading this and need one for small jobs around your home, BUY IT but realize it is NOT a commercial chipper and it will take you a little more time.... i can't tell you how nice it is to not have to mow around stumps and roots in the yard.... ABSOLUTLY SATIFIED... but i have reasonable expectations and realized what i was purchasing.... when i get some time i will try to add pics and maybe a video.... there are a few videos on You Tube that show exactly what the machine will do ..... BUY IT, IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY

Like most people I hate writing bad reviews. It feels like I'm tattling on someone, but I had to do it on this product so more people don't make the $900 mistake that I made. I had a white pine stump with a 12 inch diameter to grind. About 7 years old. It was one inch above the grass so pretty short and soft. The "Super Handy Stump Grinder" belt broke (see pic of old and new belt) after about 15 minutes. The worst part is that when it did work it barely ground the stump. I couldn't help but think that I could have done much more grinding in 20 minutes with my chain saw. I've used stump grinders many times and normally when you grind you will see pretty large chips of wood. With this you get tiny chips and saw dust (see pic). I tried to be proactive and purchased two new belts that I picked based on the Amazon "Often Purrchased with This" recommendation because no where does the manufacturer tell you the specs on the belt. I spent about an hour in my garage trying to figure out how to install a new belt without taking the whole grinder apart. With no luck and NO youtube videos or even instructions on their website or in the manual that comes with the unit to be found I contacted the seller via their website. Note there isn't a phone number anywhere. I asked them for instructions on how to replace the belt. It took them 4 days to respond. Unfortunately they sent me a video regarding replacing the belt tensioner and not a video regarding replacing the belt. I immediately responded informing them of their error. Two days later and no reply. My advice is don't buy anything from them. Knowingly selling a faulty product is bad but zero service is inexcusable!

I received grinder undamaged and well packaged. I did refer to a YT video for a quick assembly. You must supply your own oil. So, after a quick test I determined this product was not set up for use right out of the box. As some other reviews have mentioned, the belt tension was not setup properly and would quickly chew through the belt. I had to loosen up the engine and move it forward on the frame. Prior to this, with belt tensioner clutch released , if you turned the engine off then it was almost impossible to pull start the engine again, as you're still engaged with the grinding wheel, despite the handle in the off position. This showed the belt tension was too tight coming out of the box. The fix was loosening the engine on the frame and moving it forward, approximately 1 inch in my case. This allowed the engine to turn with very little tension on the belt when the belt lever was disengaged. I also had to adjust the belt retention guides, it has 3. I then used it for about an hour without issues. I did turn it off a couple of times during that period to clear the grounds. The engine did start easily without requiring the use of the choke and it was easily to pull start, as it was no longer binding up with front grind wheel due to proper belt tension. The actual grinding of the pine stumps went well. I knew this was an entry level stump grinder and knowing that I took my time and worked methodically and attacked the stump from different directions. I was pleasantly surprised how well it did. It actually did better than expected. So, if you use it as is right out of the box then you'll be very disappointed but if you are decent with hand tools and mechanically inclined then you can do some adjustments and have a very solid and functional stump grinder. I also had ordered the "blue" 5/8 x 51" belt due to reading all the reviews about shredded belts, however, this size is a touch too short, as I took original belt off prior to running and comparing the oem and "blue" brand belt. I'm gonna order a 53". I did remove belt without having to remove any pullies or tensioners. I'll switch to a synthetic oil after another hour, or so of break-in time.

I read many of the reviews before purchasing so I tempered my expectations. When it arrives and you assemble it, beware because it is not always set up correctly. For example, the belt on mine was routed improperly. I didnt realize this and ran it as-is and the belt broke within the first 2 hours. Luckily I had purchased two extra belts based on the reviews and I’m glad I did. I realize now, that the trick to the belt is to keep it as loose as possible when you install it. Move the engine as far forward as you can. The pulley will provide enough tension to operate the belt properly without breaking it. You don’t need to install it with any extra tension. I can now run the machine for many many hours without breaking belts. The other thing I learned is never to let the machine all the way down when it’s running, even if you have the pulley tension off. If you wanna set the machine down, turn the engine off. This will also help you save belts. With these tips in mind, it’s a great little machine and I’ve ground about 30 stumps so far. Well worth the money. I also wrapped a little bungee cord around the handle to keep the engine running so you don't have to constantly hold it down and contribute to hand fatigue.

Purchased this item to help me cleanup a a lot of stumps. It works OK when it works, if you take it slow you'll manage to get the stump just below the ground level. The belt that the unit shipped with broke after 1 hour of use. Finding a replacement belt was a journey, it is no where documented and B48 is not it. I made it work with 5/8"x 53" but 54" would be better. You see the transmission is friction driven and while you might be able to force B48 or anything smaller then 53" onto the pulleys. Good luck trying to start the engine as the transmission will be always engaged. There is not enough clearance on the motor mounts to accommodate for anything shorter the 53" belt. Second issue is that its teeth only lasted for 8 medium stumps, on my grinder the teeth tended to snap off. With one set bolts snapped off and one of the teeth got sling-ed about 5 yards. In conclusion using is better than any other hand tool I could use, but it is not not amazing.

So it cleared the first stump with no problem but did take about 5 minutes to try to get it started the first time, now after 30 minutes of trying to restart it, no success. Checked all fluids, air filter, spark plug...all are in perfect condition. It just does not want to fire...checked all the controls over and over, cut off switch, choke, throttle, fuel is on...it just has no desire to start. Since I'm hearing nothing but poor customer service from this company, I doubt I will even get any support so likely I'll be running this by a small engine repair shop to see what they can do with it...should have know, feels like a crappy engine manufacturer but unit seemed to function just fine. Next time I get one with electric start but different manufacturer.

The shipping of this item was excellent, no dents, no scratches and quick. The Grinder is well made and after having reviewed the owners manual I thought there would be problems in trying to find parts especially things like a new belt or cutter teeth for the Grinder since the part numbers were not listed. I was hesitant after contacting the seller since the parts were not on hand. The seller had indicated this product was new for the company but after contacting both by email and by phone the seller quickly responded by contacting the manufacturer and now has stock of these items. The stump grinder works extremely well on small stumps and even on larger ones normally not included in specifications for the machine especially if stump is within the height limit and somewhat dry, in other words cut previously and has had time to dry out. It is especially good for e Evergreen type or Arborvitae type trees, and removal of Juniper stumps on lawns. Having just recently acquired this Grinder I have as of today remove more than 12 stumps larger than specified for use of machine. The 9hp Engine starts very quickly and has robust power for this size Grinder. For lawn work, unlike tree work, the Super Handy Grinder is a real plus. I highly recommend this Grinder. I must say the customer service has been extremely helpful to satisfy my concerns. I am therefore very satisfied with this product.

I got this to grind 3-6 inch buckthorn stumps mainly. It does do that well so far. Outside of that it has a very cheap throttle that retracts about a quarter after moving it to full throttle. This makes it very straining on the body to be moving the grinder back and forth with one arm, while having to hold the throttle down with the other hand. I've made adjustments to try to fix it but I determined that it is a cheap junk throttle. Equally frustrating is that it was engineered in such a way that they seemed to not expect you to maintain the engine. The drain holes for the oil are located in a terrible spot where you are forced to dump oil all over the machine and floor when you drain it. I would have rather spent more on a better engineered machine. I've heard it breaks belts often too though I have yet for that to happen to me, but I am grinding under 12 inches.
