  • Choose This One After Comparing Others, AI Mapping Was Surprisingly Fast
I looked at a few different robot mowers before buying this one, including some camera-only models. What convinced me was that Sunseeker actually comes from a lawn & garden background, so I figured their technical design wouldn’t involve any guesswork. Setup was easier than expected—mapping my yard took about 15 minutes, which shocked me because I thought it’d take an hour. The LiDAR picked up my fences, trees, and uneven spots right away without losing its signal, unlike what some reviews mentioned about other brands. It’s only been a few days, but so far the routes look clean and organized. I’ll keep using it through the summer and come back with an update on my experience. ... show more

  • Didn’t Expect Much at First — It Turned Out More Practical Than I Thought
I wasn’t really sure a robot mower would fit my yard situation at first. A lot of the videos and reviews online make them look almost too “perfect,” which made me a bit skeptical. After using S4 for a while, I’d say it’s more practical than flashy. It doesn’t feel like a gadget you constantly need to manage — it just gradually takes care of the lawn in the background. There are still small things you notice here and there, but overall it’s been steady enough that I don’t really think about it once it’s running. For me, that realistic day-to-day performance matters more than the marketing claims. ... show more

  • Not a Tech Person, But This One Just Made Sense
I’m definitely not a tech-savvy person, but I went down the rabbit hole a bit before buying a robot mower. Looked at camera-based ones and a couple GPS/RTK models, but a lot of people were saying they can get weird around trees, shade, or patio furniture—which is basically my yard. Kept seeing people mention LiDAR as the more “set it and forget it” option, so I started leaning that way. This one seemed pretty straightforward, and the brand has been around in the lawn care space for a while, so I felt okay giving it a shot. Setup was easier than I expected, honestly. The AI mapping kicked in and got my yard mapped pretty quickly without me having to do much. It’s been running in a pretty clean pattern and hasn’t gotten itself stuck so far, which was a big issue with my old setup. It’s not flawless or anything, but it does what I wanted—no wires, no complicated setup, and I don't have to think about it much. That alone is a win for me. ... show more

  • Upgraded from My Old Wired Mower
The media could not be loaded. I’ve been using a wired robot mower for a couple of years, and while it worked, the setup and boundary wires were always a hassle. I remembered Sunseeker from a few years ago but didn’t try it back then. When I saw their new release, I thought I’d give it a shot—and I’m glad I did. The setup was straightforward, and the AI mapping was impressively fast—it handled my uneven backyard without me having to intervene. The mower runs smoothly, follows clean paths, and doesn’t get stuck like my old one. On top of that, the package included a random sticker and 2 extra blades. I got the little dog sticker, and my dog was immediately curious and playful around it—such a fun little bonus. Overall, it feels like a real upgrade. It’s simple, reliable, and actually makes yard care almost effortless. ... show more

  • Very Impressive, But Not For Everyone
The media could not be loaded. The geek in me really likes this robot. It is well thought out from the packaging, accessories and spare parts, phone app, and even the shape of the robot itself. My experience of watching it [and they advise that it should not be operated fully autonomously] is like watching a new puppy; wonder and amazement with the knowledge that this little guy could get into trouble. This is a nice product, and undoubtably would suit the right person quite well. My opinion, but I think the target user has a push mower (perhaps with motor assist), and a dry or well drained, manicured lawn, up to the recommended ¼ acre. That’s not me. My property is much larger, never dry during the spring and autumn shoulder seasons, rarely completely dry during the summer, and the grass species are ones that will survive in standing water, bitter cold winters, and blazing sunshine in the brief summer. My riding lawn mower has tractor tires. It is probably no surprise that it ships in a large, heavy box. Unboxing and setup for charging was pretty-much intuitive, revealing the expected parts and accessories. Pleasant surprises were the printed cardboard insert that served as a quick reference, a roll of fitted red and white reflective strips to apply to the mower, and spare blades. Initial setup involved connecting the long charger and docking station cords [with a weather sealed connection], removing the shipping card and rolling the robot into the docking station, and plugging into a ground-fault protected outlet. A short whirring sound was followed by the confidence-inspiring blinking of the battery indicator. In under an hour from unboxing, the battery was topped up and ready for use. While charging and before use, the 26-page English Instruction Manual was read. [French and Spanish sections are also included.] These caution, ”Do not let the product operate when there is standing water in the area, such as an area with pools of water formed by heavy rain,” and all but preclude automatic operation on most of my property - though not a fault of the product. The app was downloaded from the app store and installed. It is required for initial setup [apparently programming coordinates into the robot], manual operation [driving the robot – left, right, forward and reverse], timed operation, and notifications. I experienced a little frustration with the app related to my network. For testing, I chose an area of rolling surface terrain about 20 x 60 feet generally rectangular, and dry enough to walk on without sinking. Two obstacles included a raised planting bed and a soft soil mound left over from a planting bed that had been removed. Setting up the boundaries was done manually as I could not convince the robot to do it automatically [and there was nothing to clearly define boundaries like fence or sidewalk]. The docking station was slightly outside the boundary, so the robot was carried a few feet. Operational noise gets lost in the background. The initial cut was quite impressive. The robot cuts in narrow, overlapping rows, and appears to turn around and recut spots if the grass is too long. This apparent feature would seem to make it ideal to maintain a manicured lawn. Battery performance [including mapping the outer perimeter and initial cut] lasted about half the area. The battery was recharged in a couple hours and finished the cut. [By my calculation at this rate ¼ acre would require four cut / charge cycles - most of the sunlight hours in a day.] This calculation may not be fair. My weather is mostly cloudy, most days. Manual setup and operation apparently require a positioning signal, and observation suggested that the signal was lost (e.g. boundary setup was frequently slow or unresponsive, and in operation the robot wandered well outside the boundary, then – presumably when coordinates were re-established - turned around and returned). Extra work performed -at least initially, though might improve as the robot better learns the area. As advised, operation should be monitored, and I was able to do yard work within sight distance. I also monitored operation by watching feed from a security camera. A few rescues were required (including the robot’s instance to climb the soft soil mound - see photo), while the solid structure of the existing raised bed was avoided by inches. When a rescue is required, the robot stops with an error, a notification is sent, and well-placed handles allow it to be lifted to a safe place to restart. Once the robot completed cutting the area, I received a notification on the app. Because I had initially carried it to the space, it spent a few minutes circling, and then locating and docking itself to top up the battery. Smart. [The docking station was in a sheltered area that was probably shielded from coordinate mapping.] If you like advanced products, like watching this thing, maybe don’t like mowing, and you have the yard for it, this might be for you. • Not the Cheapest, but the Specs + Real Support Made Me Feel Safer
The media could not be loaded. Yeah, this one costs a bit more than some of the other LiDAR mowers I looked at. I compared specs side by side, and the LiDAR on this one really did look stronger. But honestly, what pushed me over the line was the fact that they have real customer support with real people. For something this expensive, I want a brand I can actually reach if something goes wrong. So even though it wasn’t the cheapest option, it felt like the safer choice—and so far, it’s been solid. ... show more
