Good product
This unit is on the heavier side, but that’s a good thing. it feels solid and has beefy internal components that should last a long time. Before this, I tried two other brands/models. One had such weak tension it felt like I was just moving my legs through air—completely useless. The other had more tension, but when I checked inside, I realized it was just a spring with cloth pressed against the flywheel. Honestly, that looked like a fire hazard if I used it long enough! definitely not something I felt safe with. That’s why I went with this Sunny Health model with magnetic tension. The resistance feels smooth, reliable, and safe. Maybe it could use a little more tension, but honestly, if it had much more I’d probably just end up kicking it away while pedaling. Product assembly only

Received and assembled my SUNNY pedal exerciser. This comment is only about the assembly. Any review of usage will follow only after several months of use. There are a couple of tips I would like to share with future purchasers. First, the instructions are good and should lead to a snap assembly. However, there are a couple of problems with that. The provided tools are cheap stamped flat metal and difficult to use. Before attempting assembly, set out your best crescent wrench set and one narrow Phillips screwdriver. Forget the cheap tool set. They are a lot of trouble and really slow down progress. The most difficult step is the attachment of the pedals. The threads are dry, painted, and a very tight fit. I found it helpful to lubricate the threads of the bolts and nuts. I used WD40 spray, but I imagine that most any lubricant will help. Using two crescent wrenches, the tightening of the pedals then went fairly easily. Next, the pedal straps are made of hard plastic and will not stretch to attach to the studs on the pedals. I took a pair of scissors and cut vee shaped slits to access the rectangular cut outs in the straps. I have not tried this out yet but expect this to work this evening for my first trial. If this fails I will address this in my follow up several months from now. It looks like the pedals will work just fine without the straps anyway. ... show more

Good for knee replacement therapy
I ordered the Sunny pedal exerciser SF-B0891 after reviewing many pedalers, and returning a recumbent bike as too many pieces to put together. After watching the video on the bottom of the order page by Anthony Maritato, physical therapist, I decided to take a chance on this pedaler as he described ways to use the machine recovering from knee replacment surgery. It should have been easier to put together, but my left pedal bolt was on too tight to unscrew so it took a huge amount of effort and several tools to get it off. You can put together yourself but keep in mind it takes some strength to tighened the pedals. Also, the instructions show the straps of the pedals being white ones on top of the pedal straight across; the ones in my box are like the ones pictured above - a black strap going diagonal across and I wasn't sure if the thick part goes inside or outside - not a big deal I guess but I wanted it to be correct. The machine is quiet which I appreciate and weighs 20 lbs so movable. I like when I pedal - the machine does not move around on laminate floors like others I have used. The tension works for me, but for anyone that wants a real workout it's not sufficient, the highest setting like a #3 or 4 on other machines. I wear a size 9 1/2 shoe and I must keep my feet straight or my heel can touch the floor. I appreciated the price at $103 and the quick 2 day delivey, and have high hopes it will help me with my movement especially on days to hot/cold to walk. So far so good!
Keyword points: Quiet, sturdy, easy to use, fairly easy to put together, smooth, good tension differences Why I got this: Since the outbreak of COVID, I've been primarily working from home. I am at my computer desk for about 12 hours a day, 7 days a week (work and video games). My step count is laughable. In June of this year, I had a heart attack (MI) due to blood clots from a kidney stone. It scared me. I had always thought these under-desk exercise machines weren't really all that much "exercise" as they seemed too low-impact. After the heart attack, I reevaluated my stance and realized that while they may not help me shed any weight or gain any lean mass, they will help my leg circulation. Due to the MI, I wanted to work on my overall health and this seems to be a great means of doing so while I'm at my desk. Ease of assembly: Pretty easy. It's not like 'take out of the box and use' easy, but there are only a few parts to put together and the instructions are very VERY clear. It took me about 20 minutes total from unboxing to using. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for "Easy to assemble" only because if you're planning on using this for PT with your arms, it may be a bit of a challenge to get all the bolts tightened enough Ease of use: SUPER easy. The only issue I had after putting it together was that I could not change the settings and it wouldn't calculate my rotation/distance. I had taken out the plastic strap and the display was on, but there was no functionality to the display as far as options or seeing use. I followed the directions to replace the battery (this is probably the most difficult part of the entire machine) and now it works perfectly. I'm assuming the battery that came with it may have been old/not so full of juice, but whatever the case, they do send a second battery and it works fine. Turning the tension knob is easy and the pedals move exactly as expected. The machine doesn't slide on my carpet when in use unless I'm meaning to slide it. It has good enough traction that I don't worry about it moving while I'm using it. Other notes: This is very quiet. The nosiest part of it was that I could hear my pants leg rustle against my chair. Comfortable. I was worried that the angle I'd need to put my legs to use this would be awkward while sitting in my desk chair. This is not the case. I used to have a footrest under my desk, and this has replaced it entirely because it is very comfy and the height is perfect. It doesn't take up a ton of space, it's barely bigger than my footrest, not too high, and not too wide. The packaging was easy to open and the machine easy to take out. Each part was clearly marked. Even the pedals had little removable tags on them to remind you exactly how to attach them! The instructions were perfectly clear, not once did I have to guess what they meant by something or try to figure something out myself. Each step was outlined, there were diagrams, and all needed tools came with the product. Would I buy it again?: Yes, I would. I did get the warranty on it to be on the safe side (10% of the purchase price, so just under $10), but so far, this thing seems to be exactly what I had hoped it would be. I have not had this for too long, and if my stance on this product changes, I will update this review. ... show more

Didn't operate as smoothly as I hoped.

I bought this to help me recover from knee replacement surgery. Assembly was easy enough for me. I had to purchase an anti-slip mat to use it on my hard floors or it scooted around too much. The rotation of the pedals was not very smooth and the tension adjustment was not evenly graduated. I considered returning it, but that would have required disassembly to fit it back into the original box, a difficult or impossible task with a damage risk, so I used it for about a month and donated it. Someone who is happy riding a base level Huffy bike may be very satisfied. I found it awkward and uncomfortable to use. ... show more

Folks with CP, here's a review for you!
I have moderate CP that mainly affects my legs. I recently got a baclofen pump and am trying to build strength in my legs and use some muscles that I've never been able to use before. I love this thing. Hopping on a stationary bike isn't the safest for me and most of them are too big or barely fit me (I'm 4'10). I use this with a regular dining room chair, and I put it against something heavy (right now a bookcase) so it doesn't scoot away from me. The pedals have loops to secure your feet, which most of us with significant CP need. They are just rubber loops though, not velcro straps. The pedals do spin on the pin that they are mounted on which can make it difficult to get your foot through the loop, especially if you wear AFOs. I can do it now but it took some practice. The lowest level of resistance was still enough resistance for me when I first got it 2 weeks ago. Now I use it comfortably on level 3 or 4 for about 30 minutes at a time, burning between 150-170 calories (I can't pedal fast). You can also pedal this forward and backwards. I have to sometimes pedal backward for a minute to get my muscles firing before I can pedal forward. The flywheel is quiet and smooth. I was able to put this together myself, but my upper body fine motor and strength is normal. I use this on a table as an upper body ergometer on max resistance and it is a killer workout for me. It's about 20 lbs, but easier to lift than other 20lb things for me because it has a handle. Hope this helps. It's so hard to know what's going to work with CP and what won't! ... show more
