  • Good little mower
Size: 13-Amp Style: Pro Version Pattern Name: Mower
This little lightweight lawnmower is perfect for my needs. I have a grassy terrace that I have to carry my lawnmower upstairs to mow. It’s quite rural as well, so it’s rough on little lawnmowers. I’ve use this lawnmower about four times, and knock on wood, it’s holding up great! Will revise this review if any changes. ... show more

  • Corded ones are better than battery powered
Size: 13-Amp Style: Pro Version Pattern Name: Mower
Since gasoline mowers are leaving the market due to emissions, my electric choice was a corded one. New mowers come with rechargeable batteries that require lots of charging time and lose current delivery when being used. Furthermore, you must keep the batteries charged during winter if you don't want to buy a new, expensive one next year. A corded mower keeps the current flowing, hence the cutting power. Just be sure you empty the mulching bag, so the motor doesn't stop and cut higher first if you are mowing a jungle, lol. ... show more

  • Not bad for a small yard
Size: 13-Amp Style: Pro Version Pattern Name: Mower
Was not clear to me if this was battery operated. It is not. You have to drag along a power cord. Still it works for me.

  • lawn mower

Dislike the inconvenience of adjusting the cutting height. You have to turn the lawn mower over and adjust each wheel. There is no lever on the side to do this. If I had known this I would have purchased a different mower.

  • The Perfect smallish SouthWest Lawn Machine.
Size: 12-Amp Style: Original Version Pattern Name: Mower
WOW am I impressed. I did a lot of research before buying and I have waited till the end of the season to write a review. No one is close to the value for the money in my experience. I have an AZ mixed Bermuda lawn 60'x40' that has in-ground sprinklers. A mix of hardscape features and uneven terrain (old tree wells). Most issues with this mower resolved around electrical power. I used an RMA meter to assure the circuit had a solid ground, and an AMP probe to determine Max load on the existing circuit if everything was powered up. I elected to run a new dedicated 20amp circuit from the panel to an outside 20amp rated receptacle. Your local codes may require an electrician/permits etc.. I have a 100ft 12 gauge outdoor rated extension cord that I have dedicated for outdoor yard work that hangs on a garden hose holder next to the receptacle. The box traveled well and the unit went together quickly. I used Loctite on the handle bolts. Super glue on the sheet metal screws that hold the handle to the body. The instructions were clear and came with no surprises. I powered the unit on and used a clamp to just run it for an hour. Amp pull was consistent and an in IR temp gun indicated little rise in temp at the motor housing or safety switch. The molded receptacle on my extension cord did get hot. I replace it as the heat is an indicator of a bad receptacle. I was satisfied that everything was good. This is a low powered inexpensive mower so testing under load consisted of letting the grass grow for two weeks. I did not water the yard for three days before I mowed. This is critical in my experience as wet grass plays hell with amp draw and the ability of the mower to eject the grass to the catcher. I set the wheels so the blades were in the highest position 2.5" (I can not imagine using the lower settings on anything we grow in AZ except Tiff. She powered along with NO change in motor noise. I was unable to load the motor. I admit to being impressed. The grass was cut very even, and the grass catcher was getting very nearly every blade which is unusual fro a cheap mower. Going over a tree wells were no problem. However a 2" divot where some hardscape had been removed caused one front wheel to move down to a lower setting. The wheels are attached to an axel which is held in the height slot (there are three) by springs on each side. The springs are plenty stiff until you run into a sudden change in terrain. The wheels are molded hard plastic with only a hint of tread, and offer little/no suspension. The tension springs seem to perform a kind of suspension, but the slots are not long enough to guarantee the axel will not slip. I elected not to fill in these divots this season to see how she would perform over time. The catcher is held on by a well sprung door that covers the grass ejection hole if the catcher is not in place. I was/am amazed that this catcher will completely fill. Even expensive mowers seem to be designed not to fill that last 20% of a catcher. Catcher removes easily and goes back on with a bit of fiddling. With all mowers there are tricks unique to each in putting the catcher on in a way that damages nothing. My only complaint is there is no noise differential if the bag is empty or full, and the bag is so well constructed that it does not deflect in a manner that hints at needing emptying. Neither does the center of gravity change. In the whole season I was never able to figure a trick on exactly when the catcher was full. A nit I know... The base of the mower is plastic. To add structure the plastic is honeycombed on the undercarriage to add stiffness I supposed. This makes the housing 16 1/2" wide. The blade is 14" with no visual cues embossed on the mower to indicate where the effective cutting stops. I eventually used a Sharpie to add alignment marks to stop my yard from looking like an 11 year old just did his first yard. But that did not completely solve the problem to my surprise. Remember the hard plastic wheels with 1/32" embossed tread? The motor that whips along no matter how fast I go, and a catcher that fills to the top? Under weight the wheels push down the grass under them to an extent that that Bermuda grass did not rebound before I made the return trip. Really weird. An hour after mowing I had strips of mostly cut lines the width of the wheels. I slowed down and the problems went away. After a whole season The only wear and tear was the following: Several nicks in the blades where I guess I hit a stone from the landscaping. The honeycombed housing had been bent in several places but not punctured. One of the screws that hold the handle to the body needed regluing. In summary: I can not imagine a more perfect combination of compromises to come up with the perfect Southwest Landscape Electric Mower. I will be filling in the divots/wells in the off season. I will wash out the catcher to ensure dirt does not start to clog this superior catcher. I would never have expected a company with the name of SNOW JOE to build such a perfect machine for the heat of the desert, but they have... My hats off to them. ... show more

  • UPDATE - Great mower for the price
Size: 12-Amp Style: Original Version Pattern Name: Mower
This is a great little lawn mower. I was a little bit leery after reading the other reviews and concerned if this would be powerful enough for my yard. The motor is actually quite powerful. It takes a couple of seconds for the blade to reach maximum speed and cuts very well while at maximum speed. If the blade slows down over very thick grass or debris, it will stop turning and need to be rolled back before the blade powers up again. But this is actually better than a motorized unit that would bog down and turn off. The cutting path is not quite as wide as a traditional, but it's sufficient. Like many others have said, the bag is very small. I'm cutting grass that is about 10 in overgrown. So I understand why the bag gets so full. I cannot go literally more than 2 or 3 minutes without having to empty the bag. I'm estimating if you were cutting grass that only needed an inch off, you could go much longer without emptying the bag so often. If you decide to take the back off, there is a door that flips down that causes the grass to clump up underneath the mower. This is a safety precaution, but if this door if lifted up, it might work a little better and let the grass clippings fall out of the back as you pushed it. There are three settings for length and I actually use the tallest one. The shortest cut is very low to the ground, which may work best if you have a low matted grass style. This was used in South Florida where the grass is quite hardy in the blades are pretty wide. My only experience has been cutting a long-overdue lawn so I would highly recommend this especially if you'll be using it as a regular maintenance mower instead of a correctng the overgrown situation. The yard does need to be somewhat level for it to work properly. When I encountered some dips and holes, it did not move that easily across the surface. It also does not handle rocks or large branches that well. All in all, this is a great lawn mower for the price. I have no complaints so far. I will update the review as I use it more frequently and let you know how it holds up. The construction is all plastic but seems to be moderately durable if used correctly. The only reason it got a four star review instead of 5, is because of the bag capacity and the tendency for it to clump of grass underneath. Again, I doubt this would happen if cutting a lawn that is only reasonably over ground. UPDATE: Second Time Around cutting the grass and this time the length was what would be expected in normal maintenance. I was cutting off probably an inch of grass. I also purchased the side blower unit for $17 instead of using the bag. As mentioned previously, the bag filled up extremely fast and made the lawn mower practically useless. However on this cutting, the bag would have probably functioned very well. Anyway with the side escape attachment, I didn't need to worry about it at all. I was able to cut my front and back lawn in about 30 minutes. I can cut at a walking speed without any hesitations on the engine. It is actually a wonderful machine. One thing that I noticed on this is that the rear wheels hop to the lowest setting. They are adjustable and held in place by a spring but no matter what, they continuously pop out of place and all the sudden I'm cutting grass down to the dirt. My only option was to put some styrofoam between the springs in the back to prevent them from popping down a setting as I went over bumps and hills. That took care of the problem. Another observation in using a corded mower is that it is a real pain in the butt. I thought I had accepted it, but the cord really does cause more work than the actual mowing. You're constantly required to flip the cord on one side or the other to prevent running over and cutting the cord. It is something I knew about going in, but it is still a nuisance. That's something you definitely need to keep in mind. All in all, itwould not prevent me from buying another electric mower. Still very happy with the purchase. ... show more
