I have used both Ergo-Human and a Herman Miller Aeron office chairs. I have a very bad back and I need to recline to get relief and move around a lot. I was first attracted to the mesh chairs because of the breathability but within weeks discovered they can be uncomfortable on the back of my legs and spine. They kind of dig into your skin after a while. And, in the case of the Ergo-Human chair, I've already gone through one seat. Both have had problems with the arm padding cracking because of how much I move around. Both are lightweight but I've discovered that light isn't necessarily good. If I stand quickly both tend to fly across the room and I've even managed to almost tip over, once. I'm hard on office chairs. The Steelcase Gesture is a completely different chair and experience. The minute I sat down I fell in love. This chair is a tank and made me feel like I was upgrading from a Kia to a Porsche. It's a very solid feeling chair while being crazy comfortable. The cushioned and fabric-covered seat and back are a wonder. I seriously felt like I was sitting in a sports car. It's infinitely more adjustable than the other two chairs. The lumbar support is also far more superior. The leaning tension feature is great and the stops are perfect. This chair has ruined any other chair for me. I also know firsthand that Steelcase has incredible customer service and they will go above and beyond to help you with their products. The big question is this. Is a $1000 office chair really worth the price? In my humble option, absolutely. I'm not kidding when I say after I sat down (and I've been sitting on chairs my whole life) I had a "good lord" moment. I know finding a comfy chair is a very personal thing. If you can find a way to take one for a test drive at an office furniture place then do it. Good job, Steelcase. Well done. ... show more
