I have this chair—the Amia—and the Steelcase Series 1 office chair for comparison. The Series 1 is half the price but after owning both, the Amia is really worth the difference to me. The Series 1 reclines with little resistance or support. Its arms slide around on their adjustment mechanism while you're using them. It does roll quite a bit easier, and it's much lighter, so if you move around a lot that may be a plus, but I prefer not doing that. The seat doesn't recline when you lean back. I have no preference for that feature. The Amia's back reclines exactly where I put it and supports my back there, moving with me but never when I don't want it to. The arms move a little, but much less than the Series 1. And rolling is a little stiff, and I like a chair that keeps me in place. The seat reclines slightly, tipping back a bit when you lean back. I'm happy with both, but I like the Amia quite a bit more. On sale (27% off when I bought it) it's a great deal. ... show more

Waited a few weeks to write this review. Have some back problems, due to a lot of sitting. Got a Steelcase Leap at work and although it's a love-hate relationship, I tried several others and the Leap seemed to be the best. So when I needed a chair for my home office, I looked to Steelcase. Frankly, the Leap is ugly, that's why I chose the Amia instead. It's a very attractive-looking chair, especially with the silver finish; unlike most today, which look like robo-sleds. Here's the bottom line. Excellent chair, high quality, well-built, wonderfully designed, and fully adjustable. But I have trouble with the lumbar support, on both the Leap and this Amia; it's way too much; makes the small of my back sore: I'm constantly adjusting it up and down hoping to find a comfortable placement (with no luck). The Leap has broken-in a bit and I'm hoping the same will happen with this Amia. As with any chair purchase, it's best to sit in it for an extended period to see how it works for you. ... show more

I'm pretty petite and have tried out more expensive Herman Miller Aeron chairs which made my back hurt. Then I tried this chair at work. I loved it so much, I bought one for my home office here on amazon. the price was better than at the manufacturer's website. the chair is nice and well built. Tons of ways to personalize it. Its the best chair i've ever sat on and doesn't give me back problems. Update-4/2023 my chair’s up/down lever came out last month and I contacted the manufacturer. There was no easy fix apparently but they finally decided to replace my whole chair at no cost to me. It took a little over a month for the claim to get approved but I’m so happy about their customer service! I recommended this chair to everyone! ... show more

To me, the sign of a good chair is when you forget it's even there. The Amia absolutely hits the mark there - working from home all day, it keeps me comfortable and ache free.
