  • Workhouse in the kitchen
Size: 5.5-quart Color: Black
Update: I returned two matte black and bought the cherry & so glad that I did!! No regreats in the colored pots, but don’t expect the same for the black! Sure it won’t chip, but it’s ugly and no ceramic coating! Happy I reordered - perfect size for soups, stews, tomato sauce, frying, etc. Description says matte black ceramic & I bought two as gifts. Not only is there no ceramic ANYWHERE, it is pure cast iron. You are unable to return to a drop off and must return to a ups store. It is in transit and states refund is 7days AFTER RECEIPT of items. That’s $400 tied up in a wrong description. Furthermore, I have bought over $1500 worth of staub pots in over a week & they really stick it to you. I have another staub item On its way and “change of tracking Id” mid shipment with no update - need it for tomorrow morning for a bridal shower. ... show more

  • Five stars in every category.
Size: 5.5-quart Color: Cherry
I have waited 4 months before writing a review because I wanted to see how it performs and cleans. I used a Dutch Oven from a different manufacturer for several years. I loved it for a while. It cooked and baked great. But before too long it had stains in the bottom that I could not get out. It bothered me more and more as they got worse. So, I started looking for a replacement. I checked all the reviews. I fully intended to bite the $$$ bullet and buy LaCruset. But I kept saying to myself that it had the same white enamel interior as the one I was ready to replace. Then, I noticed that Staub has a black interior. I have had a LaCruset cast iron skillet for several years and love it. The more I read, the more I became convinced that this was the best option for me. 1) It is beautiful! I got red and it is perfect for my kitchen....a pleasant red...not orange or burgundy. 2) Food cooks perfectly! I have used it on the stove and in the oven with great results every time. 3) It is easy to clean! I made a dish the other day that need up with baked on cheese. I wondered how hard I would have to work to clean it. I soaked it for a while and it was totally clean in just a few wipes. 4) It was considerably less money than LaCruset but was also made in France by a trusted company. My only regret was waiting so long to buy it. ... show more

  • Putting it in my will
Size: 5.5-quart Color: Cherry
It's expensive but cooks so evenly. I expect it will be around for a century or so after I die so, since it's a high priced item I'm thinking about who to leave it too. If you're looking for a slow cooker dutch oven that cooks evenly - splash out for this - you might as well spend a couple extra hundred for one you can trust. ... show more

  • Fabulous cookware
Size: 5.5-quart Color: Cherry
I've only had the chance to use my new cocotte once, but so far it cooks beautifully! I couldn't be happier with it. Clean up was super easy, too. I had seen a review or two that the bottom of the cocotte after first use was hazy; mine did this too, and it was because I didn't fully clean it after some ingredients had cooked to the bottom slightly. Use a little elbow grease and it's good as new! I can't wait to make bœuf bourguignon with this. ... show more

  • Best Cast Iron Cookware!
Size: 5.5-quart Color: Burnt Orange
I actually purchased this item for a friend as a gift. I own five other pieces of Staub cast iron myself, as well as two Le Creuset. I purchased the Le Creuset first, and was very happy with how they performed. I bought a 4 quart Staub for smaller meals. I found the Staub to be slightly superior to the Le Creuset. It is heavier and retails the heat longer when removed from the oven and served from at the table. It's looks (if that us important to you) is also superior. The interior of the Staub carmelizes the protein better, and doesn't stain as it does with the Le Creuset. Cosmetic only, but the Staub doesn't show the wear as the other does. After using the first Staub, I purchased three more cocottes, and the 12 inch cast iron pan. This is excellent cookware - cleans easy too. I could never understand how you could pay so much for one, until I used it for the first time. Yes, the hype about how good these work is true! And if you don't abuse it - and that would take some doing - it will last a lifetime. Stews, roasts, chili, whole roast chicken turn out wonderful. Makes outstanding no-knead sourdough bread too! You can even deep fry in them with great results! My other cookware has now been reassigned to the camping box! If you like to cook, you will appreciate this cookware! ... show more

  • Seems to be a quality cocotte.
Size: 5.5-quart Color: Black
Can't comment on value as I have only just purchased it. It should last a lifetime and from the look and feel I believe it will but that remains to be seen. This oven is expensive no doubt but if you only have to buy one, well, to me it's worth it because you should only have to buy the one. My old cast iron oven (unenameled) is now in the backyard being used by the wildlife (table scraps). Lid on it had begun to rust and we could not find a way to get all the rust off and didn't want to have to continue to do so. Enameled cast iron, porcelain cast iron all last a long time and are easy to clean, as easy as cleaning the kitchen sink (pun intended). ... show more

  • Pricey but worth it
Size: 5.5-quart Color: Black
Very very nice cooking pot. I know this is a pricey brand but I believe worth the investment. I've enjoyed the quality of the pot and quality of my dishes every time I use it.

  • BEST in the World
Size: 5.5-quart Color: Black
My wife cooks the perfect stews, soups, roasts in this "fabulosa" pot. Heat distribution is what does it. Cooks soooo evenly. This does the work like a lesson from "Cooking for Dummies". Just ignore the stove and let this cast iron pot do the thinking for you.
