I actually didn't need it. I bought it as a precaution while in a Nursing Home. There was a similar device there that I used every day as a convenience and I thought I might need such a device at home. Never actually needed it but I tried it several times and found it to be a great help when getting up and out of bed. Not very sturdy. My mom used to try and get herself out of bed. The handrail moved and she took an ambulance trip to the ER. It's great just to keep someone from falling out of bed, but definitely not as a sturdy handlebar

In Assisted Living we are bound by state regulations that do not allow bed rails. These bed canes are always my number one recommendation for families that I work with/ they work with standard beds and hospital beds if you know what you’re doing and how to secure them.
