  • Happy!
Style: ATS Air Rower 35-1401
This is a really nice, solid rowing machine. I assembled myself in about 45 minutes. Directions were very clear and all parts were labeled. I am happy with the quality and the price was reasonable. The red and black looks great and it's pretty easy to fold up and move out of the way if necessary. Although it's long, it really isn't a cumbersome piece of exercise equipment because it's so low and slim. We keep it in the basement but you could easily fit it next to a bed or behind a couch if you have limited space. I bought this for my 11-year old son who needs exercise and loves the rowing machine at the gym. Turns out, I am using it as well. You can get quite a cardio workout in just 5 minutes. Watch videos to make sure you are using good form. No hunching and be sure to use your legs to push back... 60% legs, 20% arms and 20% abs. The technique videos on YouTube are helpful. ... show more

  • Good Workout but Poor Parts and Soon to Break
Style: ATS Air Rower 35-1401
UPDATE: I have changed the review from 3 stars to one star. You can read the rest of the OG review below. The machine does work well functionally for a workout but the parts are quite inferior – you should know what you're getting when you purchase one. The spring that keeps tension on the strap & bar broke after about 60 hours of use (and that's being generous). The company reports that they no longer make that part, so the machine is dead. Usage is good, quality of construction on our machine is quite poor. I would never purchase one again. Our advice: do some research, buy something that's better made. Summary: We've owned this air rower for 6 months and very much appreciated what it's added to our home workout routines. A few parts on it are already wearing out after light use (1-2x week) for 6 months. PROS It's a simple machine, completely mechanical. If you learn the proper form, it's a good cardio + light strength workout for legs, arms, and a little bit core. It's helped "mix up" our home workout routine and in general it's been a beneficial add to our family. We use it 1-2x week as part of a larger workout routine, so it's only gotten light use. Being able to fold and store it in a small space is thus very helpful. Overall, we really like it. CONS A few pieces of this machine are already wearing out. The rubber pad that holds the rowing bar is cracking and will soon fall in half. More importantly, the electronic readout component is starting to have trouble accurately tracking rowing information, reseting itself or reverting to what is obviously incorrect data. This doesn't affect the workout itself at all, as the machine is entirely mechanical and doesn't depend on the electronic readout. It does, however, make it harder to track the level of your workout and is more than a little annoying. We contacted Stamina product support. We found them very polite and their response time is excellent. Kudos on that – it's why we're still giving it 3 stars. However, we learned there is NO WARRANTY at all on the product, so we would have to purchase the parts for repair. Unless the replacement parts are somehow of much higher quality than the poorly made OG's, not much point in that. So, it's a good workout, we like the machine, but the manufacturing quality appears to be mediocre and you should except things to stop working far more quickly than the standard 2-year warranty period (again, this machine has ZERO warranty) for a piece of exercise equipment. Hope that's helpful. ... show more

  • Decent machine
Style: ATS Air Rower 35-1401
Received a day early, went together easily, and initial resistance is pretty good. Going to use it for my off- gym days, where I usually use a godawful expensive water resistance unit. This'll work fine, and the price is good. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is there is an annoying ticktickticktickTICKTICKTICKTICK that accelerates, gets louder and more annoying the harder you row, Took off the shroud, and it doesn't make that noise, so the internals are rubbing someplace on the shroud. Wasn't evident where, yet. I'll give it a week or so of daily usage and take it apart again to see if I can figure out where it's making contact. ... show more

Style: ATS Air Rower 35-1401
Purchased this when I saw it on Today's Deals. After reading reviews, sounded pretty good although I am typically disappointed in home quality gym equipment. What a surprise. The unit is heavy but I was able to get from UPS and load in my Explorer (might be a bit tight in a car, maybe back seat it will slide in). Got it unpacked and started assembly. Immediately, I was impressed with the weight of individual components... lots of metal. The instructions...meh. They could put a few carriage returns in and separate the text. The card with all nuts and bolts, some of the printing just took a while to figure out how it crossed back to what was written in manual. Still easy to put together... just some cleaning up with instructions and parts card would help. Got it together and tried it out... Great! Very sturdy, not flimsy plastic... will post back here as I get more time on it. ... show more

  • If you are looking to row for a good price--
Style: ATS Air Rower 35-1401
I am a beginning rower, but I exercise regularly. In the past I have run a few miles a day or done the Insanity workouts, I also throw in some weights, qigong, and yoga. This rower may be difficult for someone who is not already used to regular exercise. I looked into a rowing machine because I live in a very small house, my treadmill has been in storage for quite some time, and I was at a point that I needed something. Because of my work schedule, I do not have 45 minutes a day to work out anymore. I needed something that would fit in my small space and give me an efficient work out. Rowing was the answer for me. My friend has a Concept 2 rower, which is considered top of the line, it is very nice, however, in some ways I prefer this rower. The concept 2 uses magnetic resistance and if you pull too hard, you have to wait for the machine to "catch up" otherwise you will lose resistance. This is not a problem with this rower (or any other air rower) the harder you pull the more resistance you get and you don't have to stop when you get a good groove going. I had to have my friend turn her resistance up when I used her Concept 2, I was afraid that if I got a lower end magnetic rower, I would work past the resistance levels quickly. The other thing I really like about this rower is the rail. The concept 2 has a flat rail. (Maybe this is adjustable, I don't know, but my friend's is flat). I felt like I was overextending my legs when I was on it, or I was struggling not to slide back too far. I am 5'4" so I can't get much distance anyway, however, the incline on the Stamina X helps me feel like I am stopping in the right place. Of course where you really lose out between the Concept 2 and the Stamina Air Rower is the electronics. The Concept 2 has programable workouts, it shows wattage and your distance in meters. The Stamina X's display is very simplistic. It gives your speed, distance (in miles), your time, and a poor estimate of calories burned. A heart rate monitor would be in order if you really want to keep track of calories. The miles can be converted to meters easily, however, I think it is silly that Stamina doesn't just put the distance in meters. It seems like that would be a simple change for them to make. Some people complain about the noise level. It isn't bad. It is certainly no worse than my treadmill. The air rower has a fan, and it sounds like one. Think of an old box fan, depending on how hard you are rowing it sounds like you are turning the fan from low, medium, and high. I have used it with 4 year old son in the same room asleep and it did not disturb him and he is a light sleeper, but again, since it sounds like a fan, it is a kind of white noise. What I cannot speak to is the difference between the Stamina X, and the Stamina Air Rower. I was able to buy the X on sale for the same price as the Air Rower. From what I've read there isn't much difference between the two. All in all this is a well built machine, it was easy to put together and it gives you a great workout. ... show more

  • I was excited and then...
Style: ATS Air Rower 35-1401
So this is a great machine. It is louder than I expected, but nothing crazy. Unfortunately we got it and the ELECTRONICS DO NOT WORK AT ALL. We followed all the directions and there must be a loose wire or something, because we cannot get the darn screen to work at all.

  • It WILL fail and Stamina doesn't care
Style: ATS Air Rower 35-1401
Wow! I LOVE this rowing machine. It arrived early, it was EASY to put together, and it works fabulously. I'm recovering from plantar fasciitis, and this reasonably priced machine is a life saver. Because the difficulty "level" is determined by how fast you row, my whole family, with a huge range of fitness levels and upper body strength all find it useful. The noise is noticeable but doesn't bother me a bit. I only wish I had purchased it earlier! Revised March 2018. As many many customers have commented, there is a known failure of the spring that helps the rower handle retract. It failed after 10 months of use by one person. I called "customer care". The replacement part is back-ordered 2-4 weeks and costs $25 plus shipping. The representative was completely unapologetic about either the part failure or the delay in having a replacement. She indicated, "things wear out". ... show more

Style: ATS Air Rower 35-1401
This is a pretty decent home rowing machine as long as you aren't trying to go all out. This has a medium tension for resistance. I can get on it and use it for endurance and go for as long as I want and I get a good workout. It isn't made to take a lot of punishment like the ones at the gym, but you can get a real good workout on it. You can go easy, medium or hard, but don't try and just crush it or you may damage the machine. I am 5'8 and 200 pounds and I workout regular. I would not recommend this for someone that is bigger than about 6'2 or 250 pounds. If you are looking for a consistent cardio or endurance workout than this works great! I would buy this again! ... show more
