I suppose quality control issues are to be expected at this price point, but I was one of the unlucky ones that got a unit that had a couple of issues. The first problem was the X-gantry (the horizontal rail that moves up and down on the 2 vertical rails, and carries the print head side to side) being significantly tilted. You could even notice it by eye. The right side of the rail rode about 2-3 mm lower than the left. I even checked the level using a good bubble level, and while the table and bottom rails were all perfectly level, the X gantry was way off. This necessitated, when it came time to level the bed, that the bed leveling adjustment thumbwheels on the left side be almost to their extreme clockwise position, while the 2 on the right be at their near-extreme counterclockwise position. It also meant that the Z-limit switch be positioned in an exact spot that had to be arrived at with iterative adjustments of the thumbwheels and limit switch. I should note I also tried turning the Z motor/threaded rod coupler, but it would slip back to the non-level orientation. Not a good way to spend an afternoon. But I finally made it work. Then problem 2 (after spending so much time bed leveling): the SD card would not go into the reader slot. Turns out the tiny slot on the metal case was misaligned with the actual SD card socket, presumably soldered to the motherboard at an angle. The socket plastic actually cracked when I tried to pull the crooked SD card back out after managing to insert it, at the angle it demanded. So that's as far as I got, and set up a return to Amazon. I was also concerned that when I ordered the unit there were, and still are as of the date of this review, two listings on Amazon, both from the Sovol Store, for the SV01. This one, at $285 with a $25 coupon (so $260 net) with a bonus 5 extra nozzles. Then the main listing (it appears first when you search on Sovol SV01) for $305 with a $40 coupon (so $265 net, but no extra nozzles). Is the "better deal" $260 unit B stock? Hmmm, my one data point would indicate as much - but you know where one data point will get you. Other than these quality control issues (and it could have had something to do with shipping as well - though the unit is very well packaged in custom cut stiff foam), the SV01 appears robustly designed and manufactured, with a good feature set for the money. I hope my replacement unit allows me to actually use them. I will update my 1 star initial review, hopefully, after successfully setting up the replacement and using it. Update 9/24/2020: Received a replacement unit, but the X-gantry was also out of level by the same amount. Seller had contacted me in the meantime and opened a dialog. The sent a quick video on how to adjust the level on the X-gantry. This was a different procedure than was described in a few posts on the Facebook Sovol Group, and involved an adjustment of the eccentric nut that holds the gantry. Easy adjustment, but the procedure should be described more widely since quite a few people struggle with the leveling of the x gantry it seems (and hence bed leveling). Also it is worth noting the SD card slot accepts the card in the upside-down orientation (contacts facing up), so keep that in mind! Once I got the X-gantry level, bed leveling was a breeze, got the printer talking to the latest version of Cura (which now includes a file for the Sovol , so no manual changes needed), popped in the SD card and selected the XYZ cube file. Off it went, and made a perfect XYZ cube right off the bat!   • Be ready to spend a lot of time fixing

Background As a field service technician with nearly a decade of experience working on industrial CNC machinery, I have extensive knowledge of precision mechanical systems. I’ve been using the Comgrow T300 3D printer for four months, and this review reflects my experience with its performance and reliability. Initial Impressions The T300 is marketed as a budget-friendly 3D printer with a large build volume, but its reliability has been disappointing. Despite my technical background, I’ve encountered persistent issues that have made this printer frustrating to use. Issues Encountered Y-Axis Tensioner Failure: On the first day, the Y-axis tensioner snapped. While Comgrow sent a replacement part, it took weeks to arrive from China. I designed and printed a replacement myself, rendering the shipped part unnecessary. Y-Axis Layer Shifts: For prints longer than 5–6 hours, I noticed significant layer shifts in the Y-axis. After troubleshooting, I determined the stepper motor was overheating, losing torque, and missing steps. I upgraded to a stronger stepper motor, added a heat sink and fan, and reduced max acceleration to 3000 mm/s² and print speed to 80 mm/s to prevent overheating of the motor and driver. Extruder Tensioner Failure: Shortly after resolving the Y-axis issues, the heated insert in the extruder tensioner failed. I purchased a new tool head from Comgrow, which was easy to swap since it’s sold as a complete unit. However, the PTFE liner in the new heat sink was warped or crushed, preventing filament loading. I reverted to the original hot end, managed one successful print, and then encountered further extrusion issues that remain unresolved. Ongoing Reliability Problems: The T300’s stock components, particularly the tool head and electronics, have consistently underperformed. I’m now planning to replace the stock tool head with a custom Stealthburner setup and may overhaul the electronics entirely. Performance When Functional When the T300 works, it produces high-quality prints with good detail. However, achieving consistent performance requires significant modifications and constant troubleshooting, which is unacceptable for a consumer-grade printer. Pros Print Quality (When Working): Capable of producing detailed prints with proper calibration. Large Build Volume: Suitable for larger projects, a plus for hobbyists. Affordable Price: Competitive for its size and feature set, though reliability issues diminish this value. Cons Poor Reliability: Frequent hardware failures and overheating issues. Slow Support and Shipping: Replacement parts take weeks to arrive from China. Subpar Components: Stock tool head and electronics are prone to failure and require upgrades. Time-Intensive Fixes: Requires advanced technical knowledge to maintain functionality. Final Thoughts The Comgrow T300 3D printer has potential but is plagued by unreliable components and frequent failures. While it can deliver good print quality when operational, the constant need for repairs and modifications makes it a poor choice for most users. Even with my extensive experience in CNC systems, I found the T300’s issues excessive compared to other 3D printers I’ve used.   • Great beginner 3D printer with some nice features found on more expensive printers
So, after finally deciding to get a 3D printer, I did a bit of research. A buddy of mine had the SV01 and liked it, and after talking to him about what he didn't like, it seemed the SV01 PRO answered the questions regarding bed type, auto-leveling, nicer UI for controls. Went ahead and bought it. Out of the box easy to setup and I was printing in 15 minutes. My only complaint is the magnetic flexible (not the metal backed bed plate), it's easy to damage and within a print or two, it had marks from the tools used to get the printed items off. What I didn't realize (noob) was that I can just pull the magnetic plate up, bend it, and the prints will generally come right off. Too late did I figure that out. I reached out to Sovol Support, and after a day or so delay, and explained what happened, the shipped me a new magnetic bed plate to replace the one I'd damaged. The document that comes with the printer could be improved by adding simple things like, "recommended way to get stuff off the bed". My buddies didn't have that style of bed, so I wasn't aware that was a feature of the SV01 PRO over the SV01. They let me know that the replacement was coming from China, so would be about 2 weeks (this was before Christmas 2022 so shipping at that time of the year is always a guess). I didn't want to wait so I ordered the metal backed flexible magnetic bed plate replacement from the Sovol Amazone store via Prime for $20. Happy that I did, it's much more robust than that which comes with the printer and it's a definitely inexpensive upgrade. Time will tell, and there are a few marks from a blue PLA+ I was using, almost like a cloud that I can't get off with Isopropyl alcohol, so we'll have to see.   • As large scale 3d printers go, this is probably the best you'll find under $1000.
Color: Dark Silver T500
This is a huge printer. 500x500x500mm is no joke, and that's just the print bed. If you want a large scale printer that is also fast, this is the one to get. Before purchasing this 3d printer, I was printing everything on a small, 200x200x200mm Ender3. And although it did its job well, there were certain things I could not print on it due to their scale. I am printing a 1:1 scale R2D2 and now I can print the entire body in two pieces instead of the multiple smaller pieces it would take my Ender3 to print. It does take some fine tuning and adjustments to get it to print correctly, but those are easily solved. I've printed a few small parts on it just to break it in and so far I have no complaints. The prints look great and this thing turns them out in about 1/3 the time it takes my little Ender3. PROS Huge! Prints large objects with no problem. Lightning Fast! Good print quality once you've dialed it in. Relatively cheap for its size. Easy to use. Comes with a built in bed leveler and filament runout sensor. CONS Huge! Needs a lot of space. Takes a while to dial it in. Adhesion issues at first, but easily solved. ... show more

  • Solid little printer
This is a pretty good printer for the price, although I'm not sure I would recommend to someone new to the 3D printing world. I had a little trouble getting it delivered at first, (not amazons fault but riots in Seattle) and it arrived with a bad main board. Sovol was very helpful in getting the board replaced, although the time difference made things take longer. They are based in China so their working hours are while America is sleeping. All that being said, I don't blame Sovol or Amazon for any of the problems. Pros, The build volume is pretty good for the price. Direct drive seems like an obvious thing to me, the idea of the Bowden tube sounds stupid and less likely to be reliable. It is advertised to be capable of running up to ABS but I have never tried it. There is an included filament runout sensor. There are a few ad-ons that would be useful, laser engraving and BL touch probe. There is a Facebook group that are quick to help with any issues that come up. Cons, The servos are loud, as well as the hotend cooling fan. There is an ad-on board that is supposed to make the servos quieter. I have had a little trouble with adhesion, but I don't know if that is just me not knowing very much about 3D printing or an actual problem. PLA has been sticking fine, but my adventure with PETG was less enjoyable. The print bed is aluminum with a glass build plate on top, so switching the glass out for a flexible magnetic plate would require a lot more than just simply buying one and putting it on. ... show more

I purchased this, my first 3D printer, on a Black Friday deal and opened it on Christmas. It is indeed very easy to assemble. The top gantry is pre-assembled and you only have to screw it to the bottom frame. As soon as I put it together I saw the top of the gantry was installed upside down (attached picture). I contacted support but got no answer for a week at which point they gave instructions to fix it myself. Still since the error was obvious I was becoming nervous about the quality. I fixed the gantry and got some good quality prints. Then it started printing poorly. Sovol pointed me to their Facebook group. Going through the posts I discovered the problem I was seeing was caused by the X axis not being level. There were posts to adjusts this but they included a warning that even if levels it likely wouldn't stay fixed. That turned out to be the case with mine. After a few good prints the quality problems returned and the cycle repeated. Unfortunately the return window had closed by then. I repeatedly spent hours try to get decent prints and gave up. What I learned. Don't buy a Sovol printer because the factory has poor quality and their customer service is slow and documentation sparse. I learned I really enjoyed 3D printing. So I bought a more expensive printer that has a great reputation for quality and service. I've been using it virtually daily with no problems at all.   • 9 months and still printing without a problem

As my first 3d printer I wanted big, so the T500 it was. This has been a great printer with no problems after 9 months. Easy to assemble. I like the open source Klipper software, another reason for buying. I probably should have bought a smaller printer looking back, but this thing is built like a tank, very sturdy and big rails. One negative is that the big bed does take some time to heat up. I purchased a PEI sheet along with the printer as that was one of the biggest negatives of this unit was the factory bed was known to delaminate. I have used the Pei from day one so I can't say about the factory build plate. Even for a newbie this has been a great printer. ... show more

  • BAD PRINTER

i ordered this printer in December like right after christmas and when it got shipped the printer was then delayed 2 times and took forever to get here. Then when it got here the box was damaged. I got it all up and running then when it started the calibration test it was all wrong. It would either go too far up or too far over and make a loud clicking noise each time. Then the nozzle also made it a problem where it wouldnt even print or any filament would come out. The instructions were easy to follow but bags for the screws were in wrong order. Then i did what some videos told me to do and when i went to the nozzle to swap it out. There was something in there that wasnt even connected to the mother board ... show more
