The pH function of this soil tester can not be applied to test pH value of any other liquid. 2. Since soil most often is in/close to neutral state (with pH value of 7), it is highly likely that you find the needle in display window stay still (because the default pH value is set at somewhere between 7 and 8) when you use it to test the pH value of soil. Customers sometimes are misled by this appearance and hence regard the tester as a defective unit by mistake. Step 1: Switch to moisture/pH/light position according to demand. Step 2: Insert the probe into the soil about 6-7 inches. Step 3: Check moisture/pH/light level in the dial after 10 minutes. Step 4: Remove probe from soil and wipe clean after each use. 1. Do not force it into very hard soil or touch hard objects since it will be easy to damage the probe. 2. Do not use it to test pure water or other liquids. It can only be used to measure soil. 3.     • Perfect for your plants
I’ve been using the SONKIR MS02 3-in-1 Soil Meter for a few weeks now and it’s been really helpful for keeping my plants healthy. I mainly bought it to check moisture levels so I could stop overwatering my indoor plants, but the light and pH features are a nice bonus too. It’s super easy to use — just stick it in the soil and wait a minute for the reading. No batteries needed, which I love. The meter feels lightweight but durable enough for regular gardening use. I’ve used it on houseplants, raised garden beds, and outdoor pots with good results. The moisture readings especially seem accurate and have helped me figure out when my plants actually need water instead of guessing. One thing to know is that it works best in moist soil and you should clean the probes after each use. The pH readings may not be laboratory-precise, but for everyday gardening they’re useful enough to get a general idea of soil conditions. I got this mainly to help with my indoor plants because I’m always second guessing whether I’m watering too much or not enough. I tried it on my lucky bamboo first since I have rocks covering the top of the pot, so it’s hard to tell how wet the soil is underneath just by looking at it. I was able to push the probe down between the rocks pretty easily and get a reading right away. What I like most is that it gives me a better idea of what’s going on deeper in the pot instead of only checking the surface. There have been times when the top looked dry, but the meter showed there was still moisture underneath, so it helped me hold off on watering. The probe feels stable when I insert it into the soil, and the overall build feels decent for the price. I also tested the light setting near my window, which was helpful for comparing how much light different areas of the room were getting. The dial is simple to read and there are no batteries or setup needed. I mostly use the moisture setting, but I like having the light and pH options available for my other plants too. Overall, it’s a simple tool, but it’s been more useful than I expected and helps take some of the guessing out of caring for my plants. ... show more

    • pH Meter Not Working
The light and moisture sensors work great! The pH indicator (the main reason I bought it), however, is stuck at 8 no matter where I place it. I even stuck it in a vinegar solution to make sure my soil wasn't actually that alkaline; no change. If you're looking for a cheap meter, this is a good choice, but I may end up returning this. ... show more

    • And absolute waste of my time
I'm very unhappy with this product. They claim that if anything is wrong with the product they will do whatever it takes to have a satisfactory outcome. They claim that in transit it often can set the calibration to not work correctly. This is the case I guess for mine. It was completely useless in that I would stick it in the soil, and it would not move in any direction. The light stayed the same the water stayed the same and the pH levels date the same. When I tried to contact them to tell them, to see if we could have a new one shipped, as they claim themselves, nobody got back to me. After 2 weeks of waiting for a response, I decided to return it through Amazon at ups. The reason why, was because Amazon was asking me how my return went, and the longer the time will go, I could have ran out of time to be able to return it within the window time frame. So I ended up returning it, and getting no solution, and getting no response even. So as far as the customer service, they are not what they claim. As far as the products I don't know if it got destroyed in transit, I just know that it did not work. So all in all, I will go with a different meter. Half of my plants are large potted plants, the other half are smaller. It says for best results to stick the probes six to seven inches into the soil for an accurate reading. For all of my smaller potted plants, this would not be possible as the depth of the pot is not even six to seven inches. If it's that easy for the product to get destroyed just by having it shipped and not work when you get it, then I would be more inclined to buy a meter that will come protected and bubble wrap and ensure that it will come to me in working condition. This one just came in a thin little box with no padded protection. That might be the reason why it gets destroyed in transit, as they claim. Definitely far from happy, I have been waiting for a soil meter for so long, and then I went with this one that had such good reviews only to find out that the reviews were completely incorrect. ... show more

Standard for all my reviews: When reviewing products, I always remain objective and honest about the product or service. I always review with information that I feel others would like to know about the product as I always assume what I'm writing will influence for or against the purchase. I always try to go above and beyond surface characteristics and input into quality, value and application. Most importantly, I will always end the review with an answer as to whether I'd purchase the product again which I believe is the most critical question pertaining to the item. To manufacturers: Want me to review your items, just let me know! I purchased this along with fertilizer as my small garden was struggling this year and I was trying to track down the problem. As it turns out, I think I had both a watering and fertilizing problem. As for this moisture/light meter, it's super simple to use and appears to be extremely accurate. Light isn't an issue but I've 'played' around with it and it registers accurately. The moisture meter part gives you readings from dry to wet and there's no mistaking its reading. At one point it was registering "wet" when the top of the soil was bone dry. Digging down a bit I found the peat moss I had was retaining moisture and the meter was reporting properly - a huge help as I believe I was drowning the roots. You can't change the batter on this unit but for the price, it's something you just replace. The only downside is that the probes aren't particular heavy weight so if you have impacted soil, it's possible to bend them a bit but it's not much of an issue. You can bend them back. But as long as you go straight into the soil and don't probe too deeply, it's not an issue. I won't garden from this point forward without a meter like this and while I haven't tried others, I'll get this one again due to cost. ... show more

This thing’s pretty neat cause it doesn’t just tell you if your plant is moist it tells you about the pH. I really like it. I planted some grass for my pets and it tells me when to water it and if it’s OK.
