I am sure it's the limitations of a digital display (especially a basic one), but it doesn't show the more precise levels that a standard needle meter would show. Though I will say that, for what it does show, it seems to read accurately. It also automatically turns off when you leave it alone, which is nice, since I worry about the rod digging around or damaging the roots when I have to grab it to press & hold the buttons (the other method to turn the screen off). ... show more

    • Easy to use (mostly), seems accurate!

Pretty simple to use, with a short instruction manual. Load up the batteries (4 AAA) and hit a button and you are ready to stick it in the ground. When I said simple to use, that part is correct, There are only two buttons; one switches to C or F (defaults to C each time you turn it on). The other button switches from temp to PH reading. Tapping either of the buttons turns it on and holding down either of the buttons turns it off. What isn't quite intuitive is reading the meter, and the manual does no good there. It tells you what it can do, but does not relate the functions to the display on the screen. So, the top of the meter shows how much sunlight you are receiving; the center shows either temperature of the soil or pH, depending on your mode; and the bottom of the meter shows the moisture content of the soil (only in temp mode). You'd probably figure all that out like I did by playing with it, but hey, how hard is it to show a picture of the screen with arrows pointing to the different features, hm? It does work just fine, and is handy for pH testing. Some plants like a bit more acidic soil, and this can check for that. It's also handy to see if you actually need to water, or if there is enough moisture under the top inch or two of soil. ... show more

This soil moisture meter comes with thorough instructions and is east to use in my opinion. I got this to test the soil of my indoor plants as I was overwatering them. This does not come with batteries so you will need four AAA to operate.

This multi sensor works well. We haven't verified the Ph accuracy against a reference but it seems to be pretty close to the liquid sample method. The moisture sensor seems to work too. So overall this is a decent multi-function sensor. It is easy to use and easy to read. Recommended.
