Why did you pick this product vs others?: Fantastic meter. Very simple and mechanical, needs no batteries, no fancy electronics that are likely to break. Just shows me if my potatoes and tomatoes need to be watered when I can't get my finger blindly all the way down into my grow bags. Zero issues, easy to use, and one of the most useful gardening tools I've ever bought.

I bought this moisture meter to prevent my plants from becoming gnat infested again due to overwatering. So far it seems to be registering accurately and is easy to use. It does not seem to be cheaply made and works well.

This was inexpensive and it's so cool how it works. This is a must have for house plants to make sure you are not over watering. You should take multiple measurements per pot to make sure you have a good reading. Worth every penny.

(revised review 050725) There is a possibility I broke or did not use the meter correctly. Learning to grow orchids, I pushed the meter against resistance of bark in the orchid pots. From the seller's help I now know to try the meter on ordinary garden soil. Based on my original review the seller was very responsive, provided a replacement product and a helpful message about proper use. I have confirmed the replacement is functional by trying it in the flower beds. I am also able to tell it has trouble in orchid potting mix which is very chunky, loose and airy. I figured out to use a kabob skewer as a probe to create a path into the orchid pot for the meter. I see a slight positive reading. I am confident the product is not the problem in my case. (original post) Product made two readings then nothing. It doesn't read at all. I am going to order another only because it is given a good review on Bob Villa's website.
