I have been trying to grow cat grass for my indoor cats. Not supposed to overwater it so I bought this to tell me when to do it. I have yet to see the needle go above the second mark in the dry section but the grass is doing fine. My first efforts involved using the little ceramic planter that came with kit. There was no drainage and there were issues with blue-green algae growth on the surface of the soil when starting the seeds. I have received some good advice from the seller of the kit and that has helped but not completely so I switched to a terra cotta pot. Initially there was a little algae growth but sprinkling cinnamon has helped with that. I have also stopped watering from the top have been watering from the bottom per a google search on the subject. If the outside of the pot feels dry I add more water to the dish underneath.
