I have been using this trash can for over a month now and overall I do like it. It's a great way to separate your trash and recycles into different containers without having multiple containers in your house. I ordered stickers to label each side as "Trash" or "Recycle" for guests that come over. The trash can has solid metal construction and is a bit heavy. It came packaged very well and undamaged. It was fully assembled with the exception of the pedals that you step on to open it. All I needed was a screw driver and I had it assembled in about 5 minutes. It then took me another 5 minutes to figure out whey they lids wouldn't shut all the way. When it arrives you have to remove both bins from the trash can and remove Styrofoam packing that is placed in the very bottom of the unit to protect it during shipping. Once I did this everything worked great. The first thing I noticed is that the trash bags I'd been using were now way too big. I have a Costco size pack of Tall Kitchen Trash Bag Liners that hold 13 gallons. Each bin on this is actually closer to 8 or 9 gallons I think. There was quite a big of bag left over after I stuffed it down into the empty can. I tried to tuck it around the outside of the outer bin but inside the main bin. This left quite a bit of bag bunched up in the slot where the lid is supposed to rest. I finally had to twist the bag tight on one side and king of tuck the lump of extra back in the middle of one of the sides as there is a slightly recessed section on all 4 sides of the inner bins. I also discovered you have to place the handles on the inner bins forward when you place them back into the outer bin. Not a huge deal once I figured this out. Since both the inner bins are smaller than a regular kitchen trash can you will find yourself taking the trash out more frequently than you used to. I used to take it out once a week, now it's usually 2x a week but sometimes still once. I do have to take recycles out 2-3 times a week. This is significantly better than the daily trips I used to make when I didn't have a separate can so I call it a win. When you empty the bins the handles on the inner bins are a total pain in the rear. You have to grab the handle and keep it out of the way or it catches the liner and tries to knock the can over. It just occurred to me writing this review that I should simply remove those pesky handles on the inner bins! All in all this is a good trash can. It was expensive but then they all were! It solves the issue of taking out the recycles and keeps them organized. I'd recommend it despite some of the issues I pointed out. Once you learn how to work around them it's good. I think you'd have these issues with any of this style of dual trash can. Pros: Keeps trash and recycles separate and organized Nice looking Solid and heavy Eliminates the need for more than one receptacle in the house Fits perfectly against the end of standard depth and height base kitchen cabinets Cons: The handles are not all that helpful and would likely do better to simply be removed if you use a liner. Hold less trash than a standard kitchen size can Standard kitchen bags are too big and hard to stuff into the can so the lids close correctly

So here the short version - it’s a great trash bin and worth the cost IF this is the esthetics that you need to complete the look of your kitchen. I have the new blk stainless steel appliances which honestly looks more like a cocoa than blk. Therefore this chocolate finished trash bin which is not ever common was worth it for me. As for the trash bag scenario that everyone seems to be complaining about. Head to SimpleHuman and get the H bag regular and H bag recycle. It will fit this bin to PERFECTION. You’ll never have a trash liner problem. Thanks to everyone who made it an issue I was able to do my homework and resolve that issue. (I contacted Songmics and they don’t have liners but are working on developing their own in the near future). Other than that I do wish the bins were just a tad bigger. But if you’re in a condo or a smallish apartment - this is just enough for you to toss your trash as opposed to leaving it in there to stink up the place (I know you know what I mean 😉) So go with the Songmics Dual with recycle and get the H Trash Liner Bags from Simplehuman here on Amazon

Well I was happy when this product arrived as expected and undamaged. However, after 2 months the lid hinge has cracked. I'm reaching out to customer service and will update with results. Beware I'm a one person household, so if you have lots of feet pushing this pedal it may not stand up to that much usage.

The dual compartment was as ordered and arrived in good condition. One little annoyance is that it's really hard to find a bag that fits. I use an 13 gallon, which is long enough but too big around. That means lots of gathering at the top and hard to fit it so it doesn't show. One problem that I need advice with... the right side step pedal doesn't come back up all the way and the lid only opens half as much as the left side. Is there some kind of an adjustment? I plan on having this appliance for a long time so hoping this can be remedied. I've only had it around a week. Other than all that, I'd be happy with it if it's fixed. UPDATE: Pedals were not pushed in far enough. Make sure you are tightening the screws into the hole in the pedal, don't miss it completely. Now works fine!

We are pleased with this product for the most part. Love having both garbage and recyclable receptacles in an attractive, easy to use “hands free” unit. I do wish there was a small hole at the top, rear side of the plastic liner so l could tighten up the waste bags around the top so they fit snugly, and also that the bag could fit clear of the metal rod for lifting the whole plastic bin out of the metal frame. The bag has to go over the handle. That said, it is really a nice trash bin but compared to the prices of larger single bin stainless step cans, it definitely is a bit over priced but to us it was worth it.
