The kettle looks beautiful and it works fine. But the kettle is actually a plastic handle with plastic parts. It looks very sturdy in the photos but is not so sturdy when you lift it and use it. However I got over the initial surprise that it was somewhat of a cheap plastic product and really do like the way it looks and it does heat the water nicely and works very well. I think for the price of the kettle, I sorta expected it to be more solid. I do like it enough to have bought a second kettle to use at my vacation home. So I did by it twice and I do love the look of the design. I was concerned because some reviews reported a strong smell. It did have a smell when I first opened it. My wife is a dedicated tea drinker and has had many electric teapots. Her friend had one of these at her house and my wife fell in love with the Euro/Art Deco style of this tea kettle. When you have been married as long as we have and are looking for Christmas presents (for someone who has everything) this might be the gift. This is a misleading product. It looks pretty and the price is so high that it makes you believe you are buying luxury item. Don’t be fooled. This is very cheaply made plastic kettle. The worst thing is that it smells like plastic and your tea will taste so bad ! I have it for 5 month now and I tried everything-lemon , vinegar, baking soda, and the smell of chemicals just doesn’t go away !!! Not only that it is just unpleasant to drink the tea but I have no doubt it is actually toxic ! You are drinking melted plastic basically . No wonder there is a warning prop 65 . Do NOT BUY THIS !
