  • Very Good Battery Charger
This more then what I was expecting, Excellent heavy duty cabinet and the cables are better gage then the conventionals

  • Tricky little devil, but worth twice the money
Excellent power on starter mode. Technology is different from any other charger I’ve ever used. After a slow learning curve, I’m 69, let’s see how you do at my age, the charger works as expected. It has a little trouble with Optima batteries, but what charger besides Optima’s own charger really works on them. No problem with marine deep cells. I would definitely buy this again. Does great on Mercedes Benz double battery system. Cables on starter boost remains cool. Big bonus when your spinning over big block Chryslers. ... show more

  • Don't waste your money get a manual charger
Don't by this smart charger if you have a dead battery it will not charge it. I have never got it to charge a battery once. Even if you try and trick it by hooking up a booster pack along with it will not charge because it thinks the batttery is fully charged and goes into maintain mode. Just buy a manual charger and set a timer not to burn up this battery. I hate this thing and feel like a fool for buying it what a waste of money. It's to smart to do it's job. ... show more

  • Easy to use
I have used it for car battery charges and boosts. The battery maintainer is a good feature as well as it will keep vehicles rarely used in a good battery state

  • Works very well on batteries that are not dead
This smart charger has a mind of its own and I would say that I have referred to it as a stupid charger more often than smart. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It definitely does not like to charge or jump batteries that have dropped to very low levels. The first time I used it, I had to put jumper cables on the battery to bring the battery up to a point where this charger would even start working on it. I've tried using it to jump start vehicles at least a dozen times but was successful only once. I'm guessing the battery wasn't actually dead and by hooking up the charger I probably corrected a loose connection on the vehicle. There is no manual mode. So if it decides it is not going to put out a charge, then it won't. You'll need to have a backup booster or jumper cables to get it started. I don't recommend it and wish I had gone with a name brand. ... show more

  • Read the Manual (get it online) before buying this; Compare specs & operation with manual chargers
I was disappointed after doing research on this device. Check first for a user's manual online. IT SEEMS: that the 250 Amps jump setting gives out 250 Amps for only about 5 seconds, then it goes into long pause. As to the boost amp settings, they last also only about 5 seconds, then turn off, designed to give a brief jolt to the weak battery before you use it on 250 amps for jumping. Thus it appears that this is NOT a fast charger where you could charge your battery at high amperage, which I think is a good thing to do for the first 80 percent or so of the charging process. So this device may be fine (though high-priced) for normal battery charging at a lower rate. But do you need this for that? And the computerized analysis & optimal charging control may be best for your normal battery. This device will not do what I want for jumping. I want to be able to get the 250Amps for as long as I run my starter, that would include cranking for 10 seconds & pausing for a minute; then trying again -- several times. I would like to be able to set the amps at all the selections and choose either manual operation or timed operation so that it puts out those high amps for the first ~80 % of the charging before it drops the amps. That might mean it had 3 settings, computerized auto (as now), initial very high amps until 80 %, then pure manual operation. Now compare this model with the Manual charger: Schumacher 250/50/25/10 Amp Manual Wheel Charger with Engine Start, also sold on Amazon. The manual chargers seem to put out those ampere charging rates as long as the manual timer has not expired, up to ~130 minutes. If you want to charge a battery fast (with 25 Amps), I think you should get the manual device. Also I have read that the manual device can be used to rejuvenate a dead battery tho this computer controlled automatic charger will not. Unfortunately, I gave away my manual charger when I bought this one. I recently bought a 6V (1000 CCA) Interstate battery & put it on this auto charger & found that it read low in charge. I have had that battery on this auto charger for about 2 days now, & it still reads low in charge. (Did I get a bad battery?) I checked the volts during charge & got 6.8 Volts, which should work, but over 7 volts is recommended. This is on the 2 Amp setting, but the other (30Amp) setting only puts out "boost" amps for about 5 seconds. I wish this charger had a switch which let you choose automatic or manual operation, like my old Sears charger has -- or better, a 3 position choice as above. ... show more
