  • Review/Comparison with Ember (UPDATED 4/11/2022)
Color: Black
I have both the VSITOO S3 Pro and the Ember 14oz. Here is a comparison and review. CAPACITY: VSITOO says it can hold 360ml which should be 12.2oz but actual measurements show that it can hold just slightly more than the Ember 14oz. It is also bigger physically, and so is it's charge coaster. BUILD QUALITY: The outside of the S3 Pro feels very similar to the Ember's ceramic shell. The Ember beats the S3 Pro in that the inside of the Ember is also ceramic coated while the S3 Pro's is more like an enamel finish. Both of them have this thin uncomfortable handle. The Ember charge coaster is all metal (maybe except for the bottom that is covered with a rubber pad). The S3 Pro's coaster is metal on top and looks and feels like the Ember's. The bottom is plastic and has this ring texture that makes it difficult to clean. POWER: The S3 Pro coaster uses a USB-C port and I would assume you can use any power supply that is rated "USB PD" (power delivery) that can supply similar amperage (2.1A on the supplied adapter) to power the coaster. The Ember on the other hand, uses it's own 19V power supply with a barrel connector. Both coasters are always on, meaning even without the mugs resting on them there is 19V at the "pogo" pins you see on the coaster. This means that if you rest a metal object across those pins you'll cause a short circuit most likely damage the adapter. CHARGE CAPACITY: In regular use, I've found the Ember to be able to keep working for almost 2 hours on a full charge keeping my coffee at 140F. In it's ads, the S3 Pro says it can keep going from 4-8 hours but so far I have yet to see it make it to 2 hours. APP: The Ember app is very basic. You're supposed to be able to set a color for the LED to identify your mug when there are other Embers around but that function has never worked for me. The LED is always white. The Ember app also never connects to the mug reliably or consistently. I've had to delete and reconnect my Ember at least 4 times since I got it. I've just given up and just let the mug keep my beverage at whatever temperature it remembers. The S3 Pro app has a lot of potential. BUT why does a smart mug app need so many permissions??? For it to work, first it needs permission to access phone functions. Then you need to give it your phone number to which it sends a verification code. Then it needs access to media storage and, strangest of all, location! I denied all permissions and it wouldn't connect to the S3 Pro. Within 24 hours of installing this app I got a text message saying "XEsn acrazygirl.???.*567". (I replaced some stuff with question marks for safety.) Coincidence? Maybe. But when something that just needs to connect to a mug to tell it what temperature it should be at needs access to so many unrelated functions it makes me very suspicious. Also, I live in the US and I'm used to having my temperatures in Fahrenheit. I switched the units to F and now the scale switched from increments of 5 deg Celsius to increments of 9 deg Fahrenheit. Yes, they are regular increments but they seem arbitrary on first glance. Why not just use 5 degree increments in both C and F? CONCLUSION: Despite the build quality of the S3 Pro's coaster, it's inner coating, and lackluster charge capacity, I think I'll be using it more. That means it'll be the mug I leave at the office because I'm there more than I'm home. If I ever travel, the S3 Pro will be what I take with me. The fact that you can adjust the temperature on the mug itself without having to open an app is a big plus. (I've uninstalled the VSITOO app.) At a cost of $30 less than the Ember I think this is a great value and something I should've given as presents last Christmas instead of the Ember. UPDATE: 10 months later, my S3 Pro is completely dead. The LED started blinking red and then it stopped. Now it no longer turns on. I was hoping it would come back to life if I left it to discharge completely before recharging it but it no longer charges. I used the S3 Pro and the Ember about the same duration every day and the Ember still works. I'll update this review again when the Ember dies. ... show more

  • Great in theory, subpar in action, returned
Color: Black
I got this on a Saturday and it would not turn on/off with the button on the bottom on Sunday. It has been returned, but I did get to use it 5 times and writing the review off of this. My star rating is not figured due to breaking as any electronic can break (although a $100 mug should be better built). Pros: *Using hot coffee at the start (never got to test/try heating up cold coffee in the mug) it lasted over 2 hrs each use at 55c. *It did keep my coffee at this temperature the entire time (I even did one beverage at 60c and it lasted over 2hrs and kept the liquid at this temperature as well the entire time). *Mug felt solid in my hand, made of good materials. Cons: *The app (it did not prompt me to share my contacts, etc. when I installed/used it) required me to give it my phone number or sign up via email (and it sent code, so you cannot skip this step). Its a mug, connect and work, I don't want to share my number/email with you and I don't want to be forced to do this either as its unnecessary other than they want your info. *The app stayed connected as long (as I opened it up and connected as soon as I powered on the mug) as it was open (I kept it open over 30 mins twice just to watch the temp). The instant the app was closed, it dropped connection and I was never able to reconnect other than the initial power on stage. *The power on/off button is at the bottom, on another of their products it's on the handle which proves it doesn't have to be where its at on the high end mug. When there is no coffee in the mug its fine, but once you have coffee in it, there is a problem if you need to access this. *While you can toggle between C/F, on both the mug and in the app where you adjust it, you can only pick selected spots (5 degrees Celsius increments), while this was "close" to my desired temp I should be able to pick any temp. *Saucer - I wound up putting it on my desk as later in the day, I like to have a cup of coffee that I will sip on for a long time (in the past when it got cold in my Yeti, I would pour it into a glass cup and microwave it, then back to the Yeti it went) so being able to keep it in the saucer where it could stay on/heating for longer than the battery would last was desirable, it was a bit too big on my desk (or beside my coffee maker). *Saucer & Mug - Not being wireless charging, there are 2 negatives about this, first it should be fast charging (come on, its usb-c connected with a supplied 110 charger) but even on a hundred dollar mug they didn't build this in. Secondly, while its not an issue with the mug, the charging points are prominent on the saucer and could easily short out or water/tea/coffee that may run down the side of the mug while drinking would pool in this area. *Capacity - While 14oz is much better than the earlier 10oz size, you still don't fill it to the rim (if your using the cap, which I would assume most do as you don't want to knock it over and spill out your coffee on your desk) you don't really have 14oz. A latte with 8oz of milk, once you froth the milk and add a double-shot espresso, it will not fit... All in all, if this was half the price and didn't break I could overlook the negatives and keep/use this mug, and was debating on keeping it at the price I paid. It breaking made it a super easy decision, back it went for a refund and not a replacement. This product could be so much better and once it gets there, I will get another, but we are not there yet. ... show more

  • Worked great for 2 years!
Color: Black
Great alternative to the ember. I had this mug for 2 years before it started to bug out. The charge lasted up to 4 hours at the beginning, and then towards the end, more like 1.5 hours. Great temperature control, sleek and works very well. I will probably buy another one, although it is available for 80 dollars from another seller. Just know that after about two years the temperature control started to give out and rotates through the temps all on its own. ... show more
