I own high end German and Japanese knives. This was my first Taiwan made knife set. I was surprised by the quality and craftmanship of these knives. The attention to detail, the fit, the finish and over all construction is better than my Zwilling Pro set. Yes I stand by this statement, it is really honestly true. These knives instill full confidence during use. The ergonomic handles are not only handsome but fill and fit my medium size hands perfectly. The price is about half of what you would pay for similar quality from German or European sets. The steel that is used is the same steel that many of the German knife manufacturers use. Its great quality stainless. There are many options available for Taiwan and Chinese made knives. These are the absolute finest that I have seen and every bit as good as the European options. These knives are very good. The only reason for 4 stars is I would've like to have a hone to match. I did get rid of the block, I use a heavy duty magnet bar and they hang on the wall. They sharpen up nicely with a hone. Thank you

After purchasing & using this Mercer knife set for over 4 months I am wondering why we didn't invest in a quality set of kitchen knives before. The knife's are very sharp so be careful when first time using. I use them as quality tools and take proper care of them. I expect no problems with the knifes in the future. Some reviews have stated the knifes have rusted or handles have come off. I think the reviews were for other knife sets as the Mercer set is high grade stainless steel and one piece so handles aren't seperate. One issue to consider is storage UNDER a upper cabinet on counter top. There is not enough head room to remove a knife from glass holder. Angled storage would be a better option if placing knife set on counter under upper cabinets. In our kitchen configuration that is not a problem and we love the glass display knife holder. ... show more

These were what I was issued in culinary school and they work great for a beginners knife set. They hold a great edge. I bought a set for home use and they are great for both.
