  • Works Perfectly. It's a Complete Kit
Style: MSG200
I've had the MSG200 for about a month, which can control up to three garage doors (I've only set up one door; the kit has sensors and wiring for one door). It works extremely reliably and I recommend it to anyone who has read about its features, and would like similar garage door control and status. I would have rated it 5-stars, but there's one major caveat. My garage door design and installation is such that it was very difficult to locate a suitable location for the pair of sensors. When I finally located a place that would work, it was difficult doing the actual sensor installation. So my advice would be, before you buy it, to try and locate a place where you could mount the sensors. There's enough in the online instructions and illustrations for such guidance. I don't know why Meross doesn't provide wireless sensors; I know they're available. Purchasers wouldn't have to run the sensor wiring to the Meross unit itself, which you place on top of your garage door motor. Aside from that, the online instructions and step-by-step are really very good, and the kit comes with everything you need (for control of one door). Setup, WiFi pairing, and pairing with Alexa is easy, and methods are provided for testing your setup before you actually install it. Can't speak more highly of the iPhone features of the Meross app (can't speak for Android, but I'm guessing it's just as good). There are a ton of ways you can set up the app, to tell it exactly what you want it to do automatically with your garage door. I think most important for most people is how it instantly tells you if your door has been opened and closed. But you can set it so your door will close automatically after, say, 15 minutes, or my favorite: I've told it I want the door closed by 7:00 P.M. every day. I no longer get calls from the neighbors at 10:00 P.M., telling me I left my garage door open. Or I no longer wonder, "Did I remember to close the garage door?" Too many features to list here--you can check out their website. Or check out some installation videos. Customer Service via email is very good, and I'd contacted Meross several times. I got very good, personalized, quick and helpful replies. As long as you don't think you'll have a problem with the sensor placement, I heartily recommend this unit. There are several out there, but I based my decision on a Consumer Reports article, listing this one, as the best one. ... show more

  • Meross+Smartthings=Android Auto Garage Control
Style: MSG100
I was a bit skeptical that a $25 accessory would add so much value. I have 15 year old liftmaster (Chamberlain) openers that I have connected MyQ and zwave controllers to in the past. I got a wild hair to get them added to my car through AA and found this controller. I am super impressed. One of my doors is 11 feet tall. There was enough wire for the sensor to run it from the opener to the left door rail then to the front of the garage. I attached the magnet to the top of the door and the sensor just above it, pretty slick installation, no wires hanging with the help of some zip ties, worst part was being on top of the ladder. The Meross app was a piece of cake, hardware install was just as easy and its nearly instantaneous that when I push the button, the door moves. So far, I cant recommend it highly enough. If you have SmartThings already and Android Auto, this is a no brainer ... show more

  • Doesn't update on widgit and proprietary cables
Style: MSG200
I previously had my garage doors with a mimolite but they were screwed up by a recent smartthings update so I decided to go with a wifi approach in parallel with the mimolite. This device does work well to operate the garage door but I have two negatives. Number one the app has a widgit which I have added to my phone home screen but it does not update the status in real time on the app widgit. Second the device has a proprietary connector system on the back with recessed and inaccesible pins so I have to buy their accessory cables which are unnecessarily expensive at 17 dollars each. I would have rather just had screw terminals. For those struggling with the fact that most modern garage door openers can no longer be operated with a simple wire (they seem to all use a "smart" wired remote that has some built in circuitry) I just opened up the wired remote and soldered on some wire extensions to the two sides of the push button switch that operates the door, then I can just use normal switches and wireless controllers like this one. I am guessing there is just a resistor wired in series with the smart switch and it's looking for the certain resistance value but I have not tested that theory. If so it would be much easier just to replicate that resistor in series with your smart opener like this one. ... show more

  • Works Well, May Not Be Easy Install
Style: MSG100
I have a LiftMaster 8160W. It requires the accessory. I was able to go to Meross website and request the accessory, which I got in less than a week at no additional charge. The accessory is a univeral garage door opener that can be activated with wires. You connect the remote to your opener following the manufactures instructions. In my case hold the lower right button on the remote until light blinks, then push yellow button on my opener. Once that was connected I hooked the remote to the Meross controller box. Hooking the controller up was pretty easy with their app. Now I can open and close the garage, and Alexa can tell me if it is open when I ask. In order to open the garage you need to tell it a 4 digit code, so someone can't break in by yelling at Alexa from outside your house. Not plug and play, but doable if you are a little tech savy. ... show more
