I got this gun safe primarily for quick bedside access and occasional car transport, and overall I'm happy with the quality. It's made of sturdy 16-gauge steel (it feels solid and not flimsy), the finish looks decent, and at 15.5 × 11.4 × 4.7 inches, it's genuinely portable at 11 pounds. I can easily move it from the nightstand to the closet or put it in the trunk without much hassle. The biometric fingerprint scanner works reliably—I've had no issues with recognition after registering a few fingers (it scans quickly, usually under a second). The digital keypad is responsive too, and the backup app control is a nice bonus for getting notifications if someone tries to access it. The interior foam padding is good quality and cushions handguns nicely without scratches. It also includes mounting holes if you want to secure it to a wall or under a desk. What I like most is the versatility in placement. I keep it on the nightstand next to the bed for home defense, slide it under the car seat when traveling, stash it on a closet shelf when not needed, or even put it in a drawer in the office. The portability makes it easy to adapt to different situations. That said, the instruction manual is pretty poor. The instructions kept referring to a nonexistent "set" button that I couldn't find anywhere on the safe. After some trial and error, I figured out that the "set" button they mention is actually the "add" button. Once I realized that, I was able to successfully set up my passcode, fingerprint scanner, and pair it with the app (it requires creating a free account in the SmartLife app). After that hurdle, setup went smoothly, and it functions well with no false denials or lockouts so far. These types of portable quick-access safes aren't really designed for heavy-duty theft prevention against determined break-ins. They're much more about responsible storage: preventing unauthorized access by kids or guests, keeping firearms securely out of reach in the home while still allowing fast retrieval in an emergency, complying with safe storage laws, and providing a secure way to transport handguns in a vehicle without leaving them loose. If you're looking for fast, reliable access with multiple unlock methods, this is a solid choice. So first off the unit I received was black, not orange as described. I don't actually care about the color, but it wasn't a good sign. There are (nominally) three ways to open the safe, probably 4 if you include the app, but I don't need or want my safe connected to the internet and there was no way I was installing this app. 1. Physical keys, 2 of which are included and they work fine. 2. A number combination of 4-8 digits, with the digits being 1-5. 3. The fingerprint scanner The instructions say to reset the system by holding the SET button for 6 seconds. Except there is no SET button. There are only ADD and DEL buttons. And neither of them do what the manual says the SET button would do. The short version is, there is no way to reset the the system. Which means there is no way to add a new combination or a fingerprint. And no way to clear the default code of 12345. So the only way to open the safe is with the physical key or the default code 12345. And I want to be clear about this, nothing in the item description or the instructions indicates that the app is required to do these things. The instructions are all written to indicate that combinations and fingerprints can be set just by using the buttons inside the safe. If the batteries die the unit can be powered by the USB-C port on top. And the physical keys will always work. There's not a ton of space inside but you can get more if you remove the egg crate foam and line it with something thinner. There's nothing secure about a safe with an unclearable default combination of 12345. And the value of additional codes or fingerprint recognition is not present.     • Fantastic usable safe.
Im pretty happy with this unit. The buttons all work well, the instructions are very clear and when the door is opened it is under spring tension and snaps open quickly. This safe is by no means bullet proof and im sure if you slammed it with a hammer and screw driver you would eventually get into it. But for a relatively cheap fingerprint reader safe that will keep your kids out and your wife happy its great. As for gun fitment I was able to fit 1 p320, or 1 glock 34. The only way you are fitting 2 guns in there is if they are sub compacts like the hellcat or the p365 sized firearm. That being said with the full sized pistols there was still room in it for extra mags or passports just not another firearm. As for the finger print reader you can save up to 5 prints in it. ... show more
