I have since bought another one after trying this grab bar out. I tried a 2-pack (of a different brand) for the same price point, thinking it would be a better deal, but boy was I wrong. While this was much longer and just looked and felt higher in quality, there was no comparision in terms of suction power. The cheaper 2-pack was easily taken off the wall during a test (by a 70-year-old woman) even after they were already placed properly. This could have easily caused an injury rather than prevent it… This grab bar though, no amount of force from a strong able-bodied man was able to remove it from the wall. We’re glad that we tested the products out first before betting on a moment these bars are needed. We feel quite secured that these can save us from injury in a time of need. So easy to set up and use, very easy to move as well *does take a bit of hand strength to release the suction..... purchased a 2 different grab bars and this one is superior to the other brand I purchased

Manufacture claims product will work on 4x4 tiles. Cleaned the area prior to installation product initially held bet released its suction in a matter of minutes on multiply occasions. Product returned.

The first thing I noticed about the packaging was that it says on the front, 'Balance-assist Safety Grab Bar', and on the back "Intended for balance assistance only. DO NOT apply full body weight". Nowhere does it say that it will support 250 lbs, as is mentioned in the product description on the web page. The inconsistency in labelling made me a little bit leery about installing this for seniors to use as a support in the shower stall. To check the usefulness of this grab bar, I installed this in my own shower. The suction cups were very tacky and sticky upon opening, and adhered to the shower wall firmly, Pulling and tugging on it did not dislodge it. To see how much weight it would hold, I hung some wet garmets on the bar, and it held up overnight. After several days, removed and re-installed the bar several times to see if the adhesion would change, but the bar is holding on firmly to the shower stall. It was not that easy to dislodge the bar, like the instructions say, a straight edged tool was needed to pry the suction cups off. I do like the 17" length because you can place both hands on the bar. Also, the shower squeegie fits between the suction cups so that it is easy to squeegie water off the stall without removing the bar. So far, pretty satisfied with the performance of this bar. Will have to do some usability training with my seniors to see how they are going to use it, and make sure they are using it correctly. Also, need to warn them to TEST the bar to see if it is firmly attached before EVERY USE (that's what the instructions say to do). I'm not too sure my seniors will remember to do that! I may need to get additional balance bars, a shower chair, and a teak bench for outside the shower so there are lots of support options. ... show more

    • Wow, I'm shocked... it actually sticks SUPER WELL!
I've gotten others and had to write some pretty blistering reviews when they would not hold for even a day on a clean and smooth surface, which I consider pretty dangerous... but this one... WOW, though I will say, did I find a trick, I dunno, I'll share it with you. So, I followed the instructions and cleaned my surface. I was putting it on the side of my shower, which is tiled, but unlike smaller versions I've tried, this one was sized so that the cups ended up dead center on both tiles with no grout involved, nice! But... even though these cups are strangely sticky to the touch, they didn't hold when i simply depressed the levers as instructed.... BUT... and it's a very big BUT... with a little trying I got it solid as concrete! I ran hot water on the cups. I placed them on the tile, levers up in the open position, then pushed in to get the cups to form some suction and only THEN did I close the levers (down position). After that, WOW, I was afraid I'd pull the tiles off my shower if I pulled any harder. The next morning, still just as strong. I tried to take it off and, after I lifted the levers to release the cups... I STILL could not get them off! The little tabs were wholly inadequate to the herculean task ahead of me and I ended up having to use a SPATULA and even that was really hard! I would say that, in a marketplace full of smaller versions, cheaply made which are really just accidents waiting to happen to your loved ones, this one stands head and shoulders above those and I would use it for my great-grandmother without hesitation (after testing it and explaining how she should not put her full weight on it, even though, I think she could). ... show more

The suction cups make this grab bar easy to attach and easy to relocate. After several months of use, it is still holding firm.

This is a nice large grab bar with a textured surface and finger indentations to help ensure a good grip. Note: the first few times you install the bar, it adheres very strongly to the wall even before locking it in place. This can be frustrating if you press on it, even slightly, before you have it in the exact position you want it. I recommend placing it on the surface very gently with minimal pressure until you have it in the exact position, then push hard on the bar and lock into place. Removing the bar was also difficult because the suction did not release so I had to get something to break the seal. It mentions this in the installation instructions. Also noted in the instructions is that this bar is for "Balance-Assist", not intended to accommodate full body weight. So, depending on how you look at it, these issues could be a good thing. If you’re looking for a large grab bar with very good adhesion that you don’t plan on moving much, this product may be for you. The product does what it claims. ... show more
