This saw is great for what it is. It has the power to cut what you need to cut and is easy to handle due to its lighter weight. The easy access to chain tensioning and bar/chain removal makes this easy to adjust and work on without any other tools. I would not recommend this saw for bigger trees due to its size. The battery would die very quickly.. but it can absolutely cut most things a regular household user would need to cut. The battery life is where I think it is crucial to purchase a second battery so that you can rotate them out as you're working. I got about an hour of runtime out of my saw, which isn't terrible but I would have liked to continue on a little longer. That is where the quick 15 minute charge is nice, but I would still like to be able to pop another battery in and keep at it. Overall, this is a GREAT saw for the money and I would definitely recommend. ... show more

I often go out 4 wheel driving and I always carry a chainsaw with me for getting downed trees out of the way. I had a well made name brand 20V Chainsaw, but it really didn't have the power for large downed trees. I decided to try a 40V chainsaw. So I bought this Skil. On the one hand it really is more powerful and, hence, takes less time and doesn't bog down as much as my old 20V. On the other hand I can tell there is a significant quality difference between my old 20V and this one. I don't expect this one to last as long, but so far it's been great. And it's so nice not having to deal with Gas and fumes and noise of a regular chain saw. ... show more

The SKIL chainsaw takes the guesswork out of cutting down trees, cleaning up shrubs and getting all those smaller jobs done. Admittedly, you would not want to fell a 50 foot red oak with one of these, but it is perfect for most smaller jobs around your yard. Plenty of power and life with a 40V Skil battery. AND...since I have multiple SKIL 40V tools (leaf blower and weed whacker), I can just switch over with great ease. No more gas, noise and difficulty pulling that damn starter. ... show more

Very easy to use but if you are cutting 16 inch logs with a sharp change, a 5AH battery runs down after 4 or 5 cuts. The 2.5AH battery it comes with is OK for cutting smaller limbs, etc. I have one 5AH and four 2.5AH batteries. For a bigger job I take them all to the use site and after about 15 cuts of 16 inch logs, I move on to something else while the batteries recharge. This is an acceptable scheme for me since the saw is so lightweight and quiet. ... show more

Day 1. Opened box. Battery showed one bar. Fully charged in 35 min. Used it to cut and notch several treated 2x10s with ease. Then cut Down a small mulberry tree and fell one apple tree with a12" trunk. Battery shows three bars now. I am very pleased with everything. It seems strong enough for anything I need to do on our 2 acras. Only note is that it feels like the exact same weight as my 14" gas powered ryobi. I was expecting it to be lighter but side by side I can't tell a difference. They weight doesn't bother me but I got it to have something lighter for my wife to handle.
