I am always puzzled when I read some of the product reviews here on AMAZON. Take this product, for example ... "Basic Metal Desk Lamp" ... that's what this is, a basic desk lamp, what else do you want for about $11?? I purchased two of these lamps. I use EcoSmart 60W Equivalent 5000K Spiral CFL Light Bulb, Daylight (4-Pack) bulbs and get more than enough light for my 24x24 photography light tent. Depending on the type of bulb that you use, yes, the lamp will get hot (not rocket science). I had these lamps on for nearly an hour and the metal was barely warm to the touch. The entire lamp weight about 2 pounds - the majority of the weight is in the base. With the goose neck turned as far down as possible, the lamp dose not tip and does not feel unstable. The power cord is about 5 feet in length - I'm not certain how much longer it should be?! Oh, and for those that say it arrived damaged, etc. ... contact AMAZON and send it back! There is no fee and very little inconvenience. AMAZON has been very good with customer service, in fact, lone of the few companies that I actually get real customer service. (both of my lamps arrived undamaged and brand new, each in it's original container. ... show more

I bought this light to replace a similarly designed one I have had for a long time that stopped working. The switch went bad and it was easier to just get a new one versus trying to repair it - especially a this price point. Believe it or not, as the description states, I bought this lamp for my cat. When I was working from home I had the old one on my desk near my monitor and my cat took to sitting under it while I worked. So much so that I ended up putting a towel on my desk for him to lay on. So he had his spot. I included a picture even though it was the old lamp. But it is virtually the same lamp except for the switch location. This one has the switch on the base of the lamp versus on the top which I like. I think the old design is what caused the switch to eventually fail since the switch was on top of the light, which tends to get pretty warm, so eventually the switch got baked and stopped working. Plus it is a lot more convenient having the switch on the base. Overall it's a well made lamp that is a good fit for a home office where you want a little extra light but not overly bright. The neck is very flexible so you can get it in just the right position too. I also bought a small red heat lamp, so now my cat sits in my empty chair next to the desk where I have the light setup. ... show more

I bought this desk lamp for my Mother who has macular degeneration needs a strong light that she can adjust close to what she's working on to read her bills and write out her checks each month. This desk lamp worked perfectly for her, other similar portable battery operated LED desk lamps I bought her were not bright enough for her to read bills and write checks. Even with the corded plug-in desk lamps of this design most allow only a 20w or 40w (or LED equivalent) bulb. This lamp takes a 60w (or LED equivalent) bulb and is brighter. I bough the 4 pack of Philips B01AHLY6WO 4pk 8.5W=60W LED Soft White A19 Bulbs for $5.37 and they were great bulbs at a great value. Summary: If this works for my 81 year old mother with macular degeneration it'll work for you :) ... show more

I honestly am SO glad I purchased this desk lamp! It's super convenient, and small enough to fit just about anywhere on the desk with enough room for other items. Plus, it's easy to work, which is always nice. (; I turned on this lamp in my pitch black room and it lit up the entire room. Do you ever throw away boxes and packaging before you make sure the product works? I guess I figured what could possibly go awry with a basic desk lamp. When I finally put a bulb in it and turned it on it did not work. I replaced the bulb, no go. I'm thinking how could such a basic product not work right out of the box. In desperation I took the lamp apart hoping to find a wire nut that had come loose. Nope, not a wire nut to be found -- everything is molded plastic connections that you can't access. This will be a $9.99 lesson for me to save the box and packaging! ... show more

This was just what I needed. I wanted an inexpensive lamp that I could direct the light from. I wanted it for a bit of extra light for when I am photographing small things, reading, and at times testing light bulbs. :) It works great- I am able to point it about any way I want, and I love that it has a form factor that about anyone knows, as it is a fairly common type of lamp.     • Bought Three. Delivered in Unacceptable Condition due to Poor Design

I ordered one for use with a Cree R20 LED reflector style lamp which consumes 13 watts, but produces lumens equivalent to a 75 watt incandescent. The lamp will be used in my garage, which is a good thing, given the unacceptable cosmetic condition. It was inside a plastic bag within the original carton, then packed into a secondary carton. Even with all that protection, I was disappointed to find it scuffed up and the porcelain socket bent at an angle. If it was for my desk or a nightstand, I would request a replacement, but as I said, it's for my garage and in this case, the exchange is more trouble than it's worth. Updated 1/21/2020 I ordered two more in white. Both arrived with the bases detached and the porcelain sockets bent. The bottom plate is held in place with four screws. The screws won't hold in the (soft) plastic piece that serves as a weight to keep the lamp from tipping. I returned them today. ... show more
