At this point (just set it up) I am giving the unit 5 stars. It is quite expensive for a plastic tube with a motor and lights. But that being said I hope the added expense results in a quality motor and electronics. The unit was easy to set up. I used distilled water and 3 drops of Dawn Dishwashing Liquid. I turned the unit on and then submerged the jellyfish per the instructions. They went in perfectly and started their up and down swimming movement. The unit is next to silent. The lighting is beautiful. The jellyfish come to life with almost a 3D effect and glow beautiful colors. I’ll have to admit when I opened the box and looked at what I purchased I was skeptical. But once installed it becomes magical and very soothing to look at. As I said I am hoping the expense of this unit results in years of use. There are much cheaper units out there but I’m hoping the phrase “you get what you pay for” applies to this unit. Right out of the box it is perfect and when the water and jellyfish are added along with the lighting, the unit does not look cheap. The plastic tubing looks like glass once installed. I also like the fact that you can set the unit to automatically change colors or set it to one continuous color. UPDATE After a full year of use, and I mean turned on just about everyday for hours at a time the unit still functions as when it was new and out of the box. The pump is still silent and all lighting works properly. With this one you definitely get what you pay for. COMMENT I have read some of the negative reviews concerning the unit not working properly and breaking down quickly. Here are my thoughts: While it is possible to get a defective unit, I have found that proper setup and maintenance should avoid most of these problems. First, it is very important to use distilled water. Not spring water and especially not tap water. Use distilled (totally mineral free water). Second, After the water is installed and the pump is circulating add 3 drops of a clear (not creamy looking) dishwashing liquid. Be careful not to add any more because the water will look cloudy. The dishwashing liquid keeps the water very soft and acts as a kind of lubricant for the pump. Third, While the pump is circulating, gently submerge the fish, one at a time. They will immediately start dancing. I have occasionally had a tentacle get caught in the grid at the bottom. To free it just take a long fork such as a meat turning fork and give the stuck fish a gental upward tug. It will easily free itself. Following these instructions will make your unit run smoothly for several months. After months of use if the fish get sluggish, add 3 more DROPS (not a squirt) of dishwashing liquid, or you can empty the unit and start fresh again. ... show more

I gave this 5 stars because after the adjustment period, this unit is beautiful! Lighting is bright but subtle with a nice amount of different colors. They transition from color to color smoothly. This unit is completely silent, plus mesmerizing and hard to stop staring at! Quality of the tube and overall unit looks more expensive than it is, especially after assembly. It does have an automatic 4hr shut off feature. One thing that would be nice is if it had an option for automatic restart after it's rest period. The adjustment period almost stole a star or two. This thing is finicky! What I learned: You need about 2.5-3 gallons of DISTILLED water. You can find this literally anywhere water is sold for around 1.25 a gallon. Get a couple more back up gallons for top offs or full redo. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Make sure there are NO BUBBLES before adding your fish, including at the very top under the seal cap after adding your fish. Follow water cycle directions included with your unit. Use CLEAR dishsoap. And ONLY USE THE AMOUNT IN YOUR DIRECTIONS. This is important to the function of your fish, clarity of your water (will get foggy) and contributes to the lubrication of the motor. Not enough or too much can also cause your fish to just simply float to the top and not cycle. This can happen right away or after it cycles for a few hrs. And it's annoying because now you have to take them all out of the water and resubmerge. When submerging the fish, make sure to give them a little shake in the water to get bubbles off of them before releasing them from the tube tool provided. Even if you do not see the bubbles. Believe me, they are there. Once you achieve the perfect balance it runs like a dream! I am so happy I took a chance on this product. I love this aquarium!! I especially love the remote and having so many color options with a click! This was easy to set up and also has a self shut off! I have tried similar ones but I honestly can’t think of one feature that I wish I had because this bad boy has it all! Bright and dim settings, flashing, steady and pulse light settings too! A friend shared that she'd gotten one of these and I was fascinated. I decided to go with the Lightahead for the set-up with remote and options. It's really lovely and makes for a nice break to look away from my computer in my home office. After initially having a problem, customer service was great and got me a replacement part (which I almost didn't get thanks to USPS delivering to the wrong address but it actually turned up -- very different review in mind for that customer service experience!). Disappointed; UPDATED

ORIGINAL REVIEW: The one I ordered lights up fine, but the jellyfish are STUCK at the top and BARELY MOVE. This is a problem in the make of the aquarium and makes this an extremely expensive mistake. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. This is nothing like the videos or what you imagine it will be. There are a few questions about this product mentioning the same problem as me. So incredibly disappointed at the $75 I wasted. UPDATE: The above problem was an issue I experienced for the first couple of days I had the aquarium. After that, the jellyfish moved around normally, and the weird movement hasn't been a problem for me since then. The light looks very cool, you have two buttons that can either go in a rotation of colors or stick with just one you like best. I like that it automatically turns off after a few hours, so you dont have to worry about turning it off. It's 100% not a necessity and it's something that is probably juvenile but if you've got it in your head that this is something you want to own and have an extra $75 for it, it's not a terrible purchase. When I first put the water in, it was very clear of course. After a couple of days it became a bit cloudier, and I was worried I would need to change the water more than I anticipated. This has turned out to not be the case. I have not changed the water since putting the aquarium together and it has not gotten any cloudier in my opinion and still looks good. I wouldn’t pay attention to the bad reviews. It’ll look dope as long as you drop a couple drops of dish soap in the water, run it for a sec, then add your jelly’s in upside down. Make sure none of the tentacles are sticking to each other either. The air bubbles will go away after an hour or so. Anyways I really like it, this one is SILENT which is great imo at least. It’s a really nice size too. The colors look dope and the air flow is perfect making them have a realistic movement. I highly recommend this one. Really love it and I’m probably gunna have to go for the giant size next. Everyone has loved it so far and my bro thought they were real lol. I know there’s lots of other brands but I liked the style of jelly fish this one came with ... show more

Loved at first, but all 3 of my units failed within 2 years, total loss

November 2023 is when I purchased 3 of these units for around $430, and it has been close to 2 years. I bought the huge ones, not the small one that is selling for around $45 each. I absolutely loved these things when they worked, but unfortunately I'm leaving a 1 star because all 3 units have failed within a few months. I contacted the seller who was quick to respond, but only offered some basic common-sense troubleshooting and mentioned (or reminded me if it was stated) that these jellyfish only have a 3-month warranty...which I'm sure anyone reading this is going to scratch their head because there are very few things on the planet that only come with that short of a warranty, and there are zero items like this...a toy, display, etc that offer that short of a warranty period. Here's what happened: Unit 1: Started leaking. I caught it before it ruined my high school yearbooks that were stored below the bookshelf it was sitting on. Lesson learned, never put anything with water over things that should never get wet. I tried taking it apart thinking I could replace a bad rubber gasket or o-ring, but while I was drying it out it fell and broke apart, so I ended up trashing it. Unit 2: Started leaking, but the motor works. Unit 3: Not leaking, lights up, but motor doesn't work. I was hoping the seller would share the architecture of how these units are assembled so that I could frankenstein the last 2 units and make 1 working unit, but I could tell from the seller's response that I wasn't going to get anything more than some suggestions like...is it plugged in? Did you replace the water every 3 months? Which by the way, I did not replace any water...didn't realize you had to. The jellyfish are not alive, there is nothing organic to break down. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't replace the water in a snowglobe. So here's my synopsis. The good: Yes they are really cool, and very large. They are some of the more realistic jellyfish I've seen and they will dazzle guests...especially kids, they can't pull away from looking at them. The bad: They have buttons to move through the different color options, which is cool, but it removes the ability to plug into a smart outlet. You will have to manually turn on the unit and if you try to do what I did, and have 3 of these bad boys sitting side by side, you have to turn on all 3 at the same time if you want the lights to change at the same time. No asking Alexa to "turn on jellyfish farm". This makes it hard if you want to store the units somewhere like a ledge or behind furniture where it may be a little challenging to get to the power buttons. The biggest issue is with the quality. A 3-month warranty is laughable. I spent $430 and now my landfill will be their new home. A complete a total loss. Yes I was able to enjoy them for about 1.5 years without issue, but there is no reason these should leak within 10 years if they were made with quality parts. These are not cheap...at over $100 a pop, you are allowed to demand a little higher quality. Seals are replaceable but the seller doesn't provide instructions on how to do so. So in summary, these are beautiful and really cool. However, I bought 3 of them and I find it hard to believe that I happen to get the only bad units out there...so expect them to fail around 2 years. Got this to replace a 3-gallon fish tank on my work desk at home (loved my old fish but they died, and I decided not to replace them due to unwanted tank maintenance). I had a fish tank on my desk for many years but wanted something super low maintenance with lighting (considered a lava lamp), and I'm extremely happy with this. That said, the list price is high and not sure it's worth that (I wouldn't have paid that much), but I got an Amazon warehouse deal for one-third of the list price, and it still came brand new (a couple long dark dog hairs were stuck to the jellyfish, but that was easily corrected). I have this on for 6 hours a day and so glad I went for it. Mesmerizing and relaxing during my working hours! Only cost will be about a dollar for the gallon of DISTILLED water needed to replace it once it does turn cloudy along with a few drops of liquid dish detergent....one week in and still crystal clear though. Also love that it has an AC wall plug....no fussing with USB or recharging it like other models. ... show more
